Here, on the anniversary of Stonewall I thought I’d go and hang out at a local gay club.
This place is horrifying and depressing in the same initial gasp as you enter.
Firstly: it’s a dingy, dirty, minuscule sized room with patio for smoking (which they ignore because they still smoke e-cigs inside). The bathrooms - simply disgusting. There’s a reason there’s no lighting in there - haven’t been cleaned or serviced since the Stonewall riots. The aura is dread. The only way you can tell you’re not pissing on yourself is that there’s a 2-way mirror overlooking the pool table.
Next: The clientele - is this a men’s bar for MEN? There’s more straight women here than gay men. The men you ask? Pretentious, snobbish; and size queens. And when I say size queens I mean that not one of them is under a size 40 waist. I like to think maybe I chose a bad night - but as I stood there each and every patron that came through the door was larger than the last one! It’s either Queer Chubs night or a Gay Weight Watchers convention. I did see a guy in a cowboy hat (owner?) talking to another old guy in a smock acting queenier than ZaZa Napoli in La Cage Aux Folles. BTW, if you like them old - like hanging out in the waiting room of a nursing home old - you may like this place.
Is this the best men’s gay bar you have to offer Tulsa? There isn’t even a decent house DJ?!?!? (Just some guy pushing the ‘Play’ button on pop videos that play on a 75” screen.)
This is depressing. This is a shame. If you’ve ever experienced The Eagle brand in any other city (Atlanta, LA, Ft. Lauderdale) then you’ll quickly realize this place is not even remotely akin to those legendary clubs. It’s not even close. I seriously doubt if the owners of the Eagle brand even know this dive trap is using their branded identity.
To the owner of the Tulsa Eagle: Do better.
I came in on June 21st, for the first time, and was greeted normally. It was roughly 1:40-2:00pm. There was a brunette guy, who was kind, and a light haired guy, who wasn’t. I asked the light haired guy about their selection and prices, and he answered unclearly, saying random numbers and said something about a shot being $5, a mixer (no clue what that is, but I assume it’s a cocktail?) being $7, and said a double was $9, then $10. Then, when I asked what was $9, for clarification only, he said “don’t worry, I know what you want” without asking me what I even want or how much I wanted. I had my card in my hand, he took it, charged me, and then served me the most disgusting beverage I’ve ever been served. When I previously asked about selection, I just asked if they had uv vodka, which he said no, and then if they had Malibu rum, which he said yes. Usually bartenders let you order, and then give you THAT. I assume it was some sort of flavored Malibu or something? I only drink the original, and even then, I usually have it with another liquor or two. I would NEVER spend $10 on just a small cup of what looked like 2 ounces of a poorly flavored Malibu. Who would? I wanted to love this place, but that “bartender” completely ruined it for me. Being essentially forced to pay a stupid amount for a disgusting drink is not cool at all. Go to The Bar for a better, cheaper drink, and slightly better service (plus, the owner will actually help if anything goes wrong).
This place should just go out of business if they are hiring people like this, and then have a phone number that no one answers. Just close it down.
Oh, also, they had filthy, everyday dive bar vibes, but with rainbow flags. The flags were the only good thing here.
Well the only food was the eye candy, but that's the meal we went for.
A local dive bar that's been here for about 25 years, the building as another guy bar for a long time as well. The bartenders are cool, a few people that hang out there are as well . There's something going on here most weekends (Friday or Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon/evening).
It's the only gay bar in town. Friendly people and a mix of genders, not just a leather bar as traditional Eagle go.
Fantastic bar with an amazing crowd, great bartenders, and fun vibes! The environment is so welcoming that there truly is no wrong way to enjoy a night out here. They do events, theme nights, and other community gatherings. There is something for everyone here!
Holy crap! Way too many good points... not enough space to type it all! Big party bus friendly, too!
