Great place in Bala to get bread and other baked goods. My fiancé loved the feta quiche, I loved the chocolate glazed donuts(or what they call bala bites).

We had the pleasure of trying Don's Bakery Muskoka Kaiser Buns from our local Food Basics in St. Thomas....and they were the best Kaiser's we every tried, soft, fresh, great quality and great pricing. They freeze very well, and are as fresh as the day we bought them upon defrosting. We use online grocery ordering, so buying something like buns is like walking through a mine field, you cannot squeeze the package to check for freshness or quality. We have ordered kaiser's from other stores in our town, and they were terrible. Some of them were so hard and inedible, they could have been used for hockey pucks at the local arena....we plan to try the onion hamburger buns and scones with our next order....hoping our store manager brings in more of Don's products other than buns...they are amazing and priced right.

Wasn't aware that the apple fritters here were legendary so had to get one for my hubby. HE LOVED IT. As I was rounding the corner out back to get from my cottage rental to the bakery the smell of this heavenly bakery had me floating into the door in ahhhh. The chocolate eclair I had was delicious. Grabbed a loaf of challah bread to take home and I'm a happy girl!!

Staff was patient and kind and quick to answer my questions about some of the items I wasn't sure of. What a great place!!

I have been going to Don’s bakery my whole life to get their fresh Scons for when I go up to my cottage with my family. Recently I ordered online 2 dozens scons and half a dozen butter tarts on a Friday to pick up on Monday. When I went in on Monday to pick up my order, my scons were not fresh and had been frozen. Also my butter tart order was not filled due to “being sold out over the weekend” when I had pre-ordered them on Friday. The girl had told me that they could not fulfill it and I found that extremely strange that they couldn’t have sent me an email about it when they had sent two confirmation emails to say my order was ready & ready for pick up. I’m extremely disappointed that the quality of Don’s bakery has been sadly lacking for the last couple years. Family members of mine who have also been shopping for years have noticed the lack of quality in their products. And as well as not honouring online orders that should be prioritized before walk -ins in the morning when they open. I hope that things will change for Don’s bakery going forward and I hope my review provides some clarity to anyone else who has been affected by the same issue recently with the Bala location.

Definitely not as great as it used to be, has more of a big-brand feel and less of the small town charm. Still great baked goods though!

We arrived around 11am on a weekday- very limited selection. Shelves were nearly bare. Drove from Bracebridge to Bala because it came highly recommended. Note on door stated limited selection due to family emergency. Will be back if it returns to regular selection/service.

Been going to Don’s for 40+ years. A must see place in Muskoka. Great place for baked goods. In particular, the scones and apple fritters are outstanding.

A great spot offering some fresh baked goods. Do come early especially on weekends. Careful crossing the street from the parking lot as cars come around the corner. Amazing friendly service as well. Highly recommended when in the area. The apple fritters are top notch and kept well for our drive back home.

Found their pies at Foodland in Mactier. Tried wild blueberry and strawberry rhubarb. Amazing! Thick fillings and not too sweet. Even vegan friendly if that's what you like. I'd do 10 stars if it was available.
