Last weekend, I was on a bus trip for special Olympics. We stopped into this nice chip hut we’re very pleasant staff and very great place to eat was the first time and hopefully the next time we pull through there we can stop. The food was excellent. The loaded sausage I had was very very good. I give it five stars. It’s a little place called Peggy‘s chip. Hut

Good place to stop by on the way to the cottage. Good food and friendly staff. Love supporting local businesses.

I’m genuinely saddened to write this review. I’ve been a longtime customer of Peggy’s Chip Truck, having lived in the area for over 25 years. I take pride in supporting local businesses and know many Brechin-area business owners personally. While I don’t know the owner of Peggy’s personally, I’ve been a regular summer visitor, stopping in about every other week, and I’ve also ordered firewood from the property in the past.

Today, I stopped by with my daughter for a quick lunch to go. When I heard the order taker call the cook “Mom,” I thought it was lovely—a family business working together. It wasn’t busy during our visit; only one other customer arrived after we ordered. It was a very hot day, so we waited under the shade of the trees nearby.

Eventually, one of the ladies called out that a poutine order was ready. Since poutine was part of our order, and we had ordered before the other customer (who didn’t react to the call), I assumed it was ours. As I approached the window, I saw one of the ladies holding a cardboard tray with what looked like two poutines. Since she was still adding items, I reached out to steady the tray at the edge of the window, trying to be helpful. She asked, somewhat curtly, “Do you have it?” before letting go. The same tone carried over when she asked if we needed utensils or napkins and didn’t hear my initial response.

Although her tone felt unnecessarily sharp, I wasn’t sure it was intentional, so I let it go and focused on holding the tray securely. Then, she added onion rings to it, and just as I was about to ask my daughter if she had ordered them, the other staff member said, “That is not his order, his order is right here,” and swapped the tray for the correct one. For context, I had never removed the original tray from the window—just held it steady on the ledge.

While adding condiments at their station, I clearly overheard the two women speaking loudly to each other about how “stupid” it was of me to take the wrong order. One of them said, “What’s up with these people who take the wrong orders?” and even added a story about a past incident, ending with “I was so mad I wanted to punch him in the [expletive] face.” My daughter heard it all and was visibly upset.

Normally, I would have addressed such unprofessional and disrespectful behavior directly, but I chose not to escalate the situation with my daughter present.

In a small community like ours, word of mouth carries weight, and reputations are built—or damaged—quickly. Incidents like this don’t just affect one customer; they can shape how a business is viewed by the entire community. I sincerely hope this was an isolated lapse in judgment, but treating loyal, respectful customers with open mockery and aggression is unacceptable anywhere—especially in a town where mutual respect and neighbourliness should be the norm.

I've been driving by for years, and I thought we would give it a try. And we were hungry. But we weren't disappointed at all. Service was good. We ordered a loaded poutine and definitely came loaded. Portion was good to share as well. The prices were good too. They sold hand-made blanket and baby shower gift set, which I found very cute and convenient if you're looking for a baby shower gift on the to one. I saw some benches and tables where you can also enjoy your meal or take it to go.

Lots of parking, too. We went at a none busy time, which was food. Got our food pretty fast.
We will be back to visit.

I was really looking forward to having peggy’s chip truck, I haven’t had it in so time and was craving wings, so I go and spend $60 on wings and fries The girls that work there are nice but the food was not good the wings had, no taste and they were bloody wings, That’s not cool peggy, teach the girls how to cook! I don’t think I’ll be back, Sept 28 2024

We've stopped here many times before and liked it. Today, I brought my out of town guests. We were disappointed. We ordered our food and paid. Then we waited for what seemed like a long time. (Everyone else's orders went out before ours, but I figured ours just took longer because we ordered different food) when they finally called our number, we were told that we couldn't take it because we didn't pay for the burger. (Which wasn't our fault, i paid what they asked and tipped) I had to go back to the other window and wait for the next two people to order so I could pay and then receive my burger. By the time we sat down to eat, our food was cold. The peameal sandwich that we ordered with tomato and asked to have it cut in half, had a tiny piece of tomato that ended up on one half of the sandwich after they cut it. (Two people were sharing the sandwich) I decided that that wasn't good enough especially after what had happened and walked back to the window to ask for another little piece of tomato. I couldn't get anyone's attention. I even knocked on the window and no one would come. If this is the way you treat your customers, then I hope you don't expect us to come back. It's too bad, because we drive by every week all summer long and did like stopping there. It wasn't the mistakes that upset me, it was the lack of customer service and caring to fix it that really turned me off.
