I had high hopes for Banh Thanh after it was recommended to me, but unfortunately the food missed the mark. The restaurant advertises itself as a Viet/Thai spot, yet the menu is extremely large and unfocused—stretching across Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese, and even some Korean dishes. It feels like they’re trying to do a bit of everything, and the execution suffers because of it.
My mother ordered the seafood congee and did not enjoy it at all. It was extremely watery—more like a rice soup than actual congee. I ordered the lemongrass chicken and pork chop with rice, which was just okay, nothing memorable.
On a positive note, the service was good. The waitress was friendly and very accommodating. But overall, the restaurant feels like it has an identity crisis, and the food quality reflects that. I wanted to like this place, but it just didn’t deliver.

I had a disappointing experience with my recent takeout order. While eating my food, I bit into one of the dried peppers, which tasted foul and discovered it was full of mold inside (reference pictures). I brought it back to the restaurant to show them, expecting an apology or some effort to make things right. Instead, the staff simply said “thank you” and asked to take the pepper without offering any solution.
Food safety issues can happen, but the way they handled it felt dismissive and unprofessional. I hope they take this seriously and improve both their quality control and customer service.

A couple of things that keep me from giving a higher rating is the quality of beef flank and the lack of flavour in a number of dishes. For flank, I expect some fat, but here it’s consistently more fat than meat, which is unlike any other pho place I’ve been to. The Kitchener-Waterloo location does not have this issue.
That said, the staff are mostly great and the restaurant is clean. I’m sharing this in hopes the meat quality and overall flavouring can improve, because everything else is consistently good.

Me and my friends ordered 100-A, pad Thai, and lemon grass. For the price we paid, the quality and the portion was not very good. Broth was good but for 20-25 pho, you only get about 5 rare beef and a rib that's smaller than my hand (I'm a female). Pad Thai was so sour and it was too saucy. Lemongrass was pretty good but pretty standard flavor for all other pho place.
