Gross, not fresh and questionable food. Who is actually enjoying and paying money here? I am surprised and hope ill be ok tomorrow after having an atrocious lunch.

After making a reservation and sitting down it took 10+ minutes to get drinks and it wasnt even busy. The menu was confusing. Wasnt really wow'd by anything except the dumplings. The decor and aesthetic were nice.

Sakai is truly a standout Japanese restaurant.
Chef/owner John is incredibly talented — it honestly makes you wonder if there’s another chef in Ontario who performs at this level.
His professionalism, pride in his craft, and genuine care for each guest really come through in every detail.
You can feel that every dish is prepared thoughtfully, with the customer in mind, not just the food.
Perfect sashimi across the board.
The tuna belly was rich, fatty, and beautifully balanced, the uni was incredibly fresh—just like the ones I had in Japan—and the salmon roe wasn’t overly salty, bursting with flavor and that satisfying pop that made every bite both delicious and fun.
An exceptional dining experience from start to finish. Highly recommended.

Went to Sakai for Valentine’s Day. Wowza amazing! We got the Soon Du Bu (tofu seafood stew) and Chicken Katsu box. The meal was so flavourful and delicious. The wait staff were very nice and very attentive. We highly recommend this hidden gem! Don’t forget to try their green tea with roasted rice ❤️ Insta: @curious_footsteps

It was a nice cozy spot but food was not that great. We ordered bibimpop but the side and misso soup arrived minutes after. It really had a minimal amount of meat in it. Sushi salmon set was okay but Rocky Mountain set had weird taste of watery sauce. Not sure if I go retry it.

Some of the best sushi you’ll find outside of Japan. The chefs are exceptionally skilled, led by chef-owner John, whose craftsmanship shines in every bite. The toro, hotate, hamachi, and foie gras sushi were outstanding, each piece perfectly balanced and full of flavor. I can’t wait to go back and try the uni, wagyu, and the Korean dishes on the menu.

A quaint Japanese restaurant with delicious sushi and friendly staff. We had a medium sushi and shami platter with warm miso soup and the Yaki.

I haven't been here for at least 15 years. I totally forgot about. Sushi was so fresh, the tempura veggies absolutely delish and the green tea was to die for. The service was excellent and the restaurant had a warm vibe to it We plan to go more often. I highly recommend it!
