Half the menu wasn't available. After ordering one of the items that was supposedly still available, server returned to let us know that they no longer had wings. Who runs out of wings? Server was great but was all by herself on the patio.

You may recall we stayed at the Grand Hotel one year ago and loved it. However, we were disappointed that the adjoining pub, the "Smith and Barrel" was not open on the night we stayed. Well lo and behold, we were passing through Carleton Place again in September of this year, and we stopped there for a light lunch/snack. This day it was open, and the beer and food were great. Route 21 beer on draught, brewed by the local Braumeister Brewing Co. was a refreshing amber beer that well complemented our delicious buffalo wings. It's true that this is a great place for people watching and overall street activity entertainment. Service was also excellent and friendly.
Great restaurant and patio, food was

Love the experience! My second time was as good as the first one. Service, very pleasant. Food is very good and portions are fantastic ?. You do not walk out being hungry. At both occasions, we sat outside and loved the atmosphere. Can't wait to go back ?.

I'm giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 for kind of nit-picky reasons, but hey, it wasn't perfect. The good: excellent food, particularly the southern fried chicken sandwich. Came with a generous helping of tasty shoestring fries. The starter Caesar salad was awesome, loved the capers in it! Lots of beer and wine options. The bad: service was quite slow. It wasn't particularly busy, and there seemed to be ample staff, so not sure what was happening there. At one point I ordered a diet Coke, and got iced tea instead. A big deal? No. Would I go back? Yes.
Good food. Good service. Pleasant surroundings.

Decent beer selection and an interesting menu. We did an Appy meal. Calamari had a nice curry aioli. Only 7 wings as a serving but they were large.Garden salad, not your normal run of the mill. Beets and fresh vinaigrette made for a great accompaniment. My only negative comment. The capped plastic containers for sauces may be convenient for you but don't help with the presentation.

Update: This place continues to have amazing food and it remains an go-to place in CP....I would like it if there was some training provided to servers. The servers were polite and friendly but just didn't seem to have been provided any training...for example, when finger-food appetizers are brought to the table but no side-plates or napkins so you have to flag them down and ask, same with condiments for the main course...charcuterie board was awesome but no explanation of what the meats etc. were....Its a great place and the food is amazing a bit of polish in the service would really add to the experience. We had dinner here with two other couples and the whole experience was great. We were seated upstairs in the pub and the decor and ambiance were perfect, period wallpaper, stamped tin ceilings, really nice. Servers were fantastic although you could tell they were still getting used to the menu. Any questions they couldn't answer they went and saw the chef and came back with the response. We tried the Mac and Cheese croquettes for appetizers as well as the fried pickles...all of it was amazing. The mains were great, my steak was cooked to perfection and tender, portions were large and food was delivered hot. I would love to try the actual dining room next as the pub certainly delivered above expectations. Glad to see such a great spot open in CP.

Great pub fare with a little twist to make recipes unique. Eating inside is a bit noisy and small but we were unable to eat outside due to the guests we were with. Nice outdoor patio that we'd like to try next time. Servers and staff were friendly, but didn't go out of the way much to check in with us other than take our order, bring the food, and then the bill. When we eat out we do so for food and service so would have appreciated more attentive interaction with wait staff/servers.
Parking: Easy accessible parking lot at the back of the building. (Gravel lot)
Wheelchair accessibility: Some small steps are a little difficult to navigate for someone with a cane or mobility issues - age of building factored in - I don't believe the dine-in area is wheelchair accessible but outdoor patio dining area would be accessible from the sidewalk entrance.
