A friend of mine ordered from here for us. The meat was bad. She called to let them know and the woman hang up on her, she called again and asked why she hung up on her and the woman said she didn’t. Then promptly hung up the phone again and wouldn’t answer the phone again. Our other friend called asking why she hung up and the lady said she didn’t again and then hung up.

The lady at the front desk was beyond RUDE!!! I would not recommend this place just because of the person who takes your food order. The front of the house is everything when you are in the food business. I will not ever order here again. The first impressions of a restaurant are everything. They earned a -10 star review.

I was a bit hesitant to give 123 a try after reading the reviews (had not ordered food from them in years, and had heard new ownership was not great as of 1-2 years ago). I’m so glad I decided to try it. The food was great with generous portions, service was friendly and fast, and the prices are very reasonable compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area. My order came to $95 and fed 4 adults; there’s still tons left over, easily enough for 1-2 more meals each. At Christmas I ordered the same number of dishes from another Chinese food place in town for a total of $124 and it only fed 4 adults 1 meal each.
I’m guessing ownership has changed since 1-2 years ago because the woman who was working at the counter was nothing but pleasant and provided good service. The orange chicken and Szechuan beef stood out as the highlights of the order - I highly recommend both. They also offer a discount if you pay cash. 123 will definitely be my go-to from now on for Chinese food in Cobourg!

The food was terrible and they are very rude. It doesn’t cost anything to be nice and smile to a customer. They have notes up for customers to read like we are all stupid about phone numbers and kids don’t touch their toy display. The place is very Blane and the hide behind a curtain that covers their door to the cooking area. I spent like $100 plus $ and everyone was disappointed in the food. The place use to be good. But I will never go back. Money is so tight right now for the majority of people. Restaurant owners should be treating customers like kings. Even when you call them. They won’t take your name. They view you as a number. Felt like taking the food back and dumping it on their counter. Kindness goes a long way.

123 Chinese hand makes all their food, nothing is prefab here. Genuine Egg Rolls and Spring Rolls, homemade chicken balls, orange chicken, etc.. Nothing was pre-frozen and all made at their location. The food was so good and the portion sizes are excellent! I am also a person who is sensitive to MSG and often shy away from Chinese food for that reason, but I am so happy to say that I did not have any side effects from the food last night. Delicious, great price, and worth every penny!

Great food! My family has been going here for years. We'll drive 25mins just to get this Chinese food. Better than any other place we go to. The general chicken is my favourite.
Small little take out, very punctual, ordered 15 minutes before close without a problem. Food has authentic Chinese flavours that I find hard to get in the lately and great portion size.

In general the dishes are of good quality. Not a whole lot of variety. Prices are reasonable. Suffers from same issue as most Canadian chinese takeaways … too much celery in everything ! Spring rolls the worst I have ever tasted. General Tao chicken very nice, noodle and rice dishes are good. In general Chinese Takeaway in Canada is not even close to those in England. Where is the curry? Where are the prawn crackers?

There's not a lot of vegetarian Chinese food in Cobourg, but this place does it the best. Excellent mixed veg with tofu in black bean sauce - the tofu is braised perfectly. The diced veg with almonds is fresh and crunchy but more almonds would be nice. The veggie spring roll is first-rate.
I would order from here more often if they offered, for example, spicy green beans or especially an eggplant dish. Even a simple garlic broccoli dish would be nice. A veggie hot n sour soup might be too much to dream of!
That said, the portions are generous, the price is right, and they are very efficient in getting orders done on time.
Vegetarian options: As I wrote above, they have a few vegetarian options, and they are very good, but I'd like to see couple more that are more adventurous, like an eggplant dish or spicy green beans.
As of 2025, this place is awesome. Great food.
