First visit to Detour. Went to pick up beans. Didn't realize they had a whole menu and dine in option. Busy, with limited tables, but a very short wait for seating. Ordered coffee and breakfast. The first bite of sausage in my breakfast sandwich was out of this world. Flavorful and delicious. Only wish it was bigger to fill the sandwich to the edges.

All in all, great visit and I look forward to going back!

Coffee and food are good. Staff are sometimes nice, sometimes not. Was pleasant when I went during the week but really crowded and noisy when I came back on a Saturday. Big turnoff on both visits was the state of the benches. They might have been beige once, now very stained and they look filthy.

Fantastic scones and latte! Definitely be sure to secure your seat before ordering: this place was hopping 2:30 on Saturday.

The original vintage bar was torn out. A heritage part of old Dundas removed along with the heart and character of this place.

Detour has some of the best coffee in the city - hands down. The atmosphere of the space is excellent and their patio in their summer is offers beautiful courtyard style respite. Their small bites and breakfasts are lovely but if you're looking to sit down, be prepared to wait as it can sometimes get busy. Enjoy the best cafe in Hamilton!

Nice service, however seats are not enough and need to wait for in the early morning for breakfast. Not really willing to have this happening right at the start of the weekend morning. Happy to see the Hamilton signature sourdough sell in there!

I’m picky about flat whites and Detour makes a great one. They also have a dog-friendly patio in the good weather and the staff are always really friendly.

I came in here to try something new and I'm so glad that I did! The staff is beyond friendly, the drinks are creamy (I planned to buy one drink but I HAD to get another), its very cozy as well. What shocked me is that, despite the line, the staff got out the drinks in impeccable time. This is a real gem!

Found out when I got home that my scone was stale and pretty much inedible. You should not be selling inedible food.

Very strange that in 2025 your restaurant is not accessible.to those with strollers or mobility devices. Forced me to go to Starbucks across the street unfortunatly. You should consider opening the other side of the door at least so a stroller could fit through if you could lift it up.

Ordered beans from Detour on Oct 8th, and honestly… what a wait. It took them a whole week just to fulfill my order (not until Oct 15th), and then another two days before the carrier even got the package. Now the tracking says it’ll take 10 more days to get to me, estimated arrival Oct 27th.

That’s 18 days total for coffee beans. By the time they show up, they’re not exactly “freshly roasted” anymore. I’ve ordered from tons of different Canadian roasters before, and most of them ship out within a couple of days. I usually get beans that are about a week off roast, which is perfect.

This is honestly the slowest experience I’ve ever had buying coffee online. Kinda defeats the purpose of ordering from a specialty roaster. Won’t be ordering from them again anytime soon.
