Truss Foodworks Smokehouse

If it were possible, this restaurant needs more locations! Mike (the owner), has made a unicorn when it comes to his menu, attention to detail in his recipes, his staff, and the atmosphere. It is a place where my family and I are made to feel like an extension of his own family. The food.... We cannot say enough about it. Everything we have tried has been mouthwatering! And anyone who has a love of BBQ, brisket, chicken, sausages.... It is worth the 3.5hr drive for us to get there. Mike, keep up the great work! Can't wait to see you all next time!!!

This place has no business being this good BBQ in the middle of a forest. Hats off to Mike for being a wizard in Haliburton. Was a meal that will be on the short list of the best memorable meals...

Was busy.. but was a short wait time for our food and was still absolutely amazing....kudos to the kitchen for keeping up and still putting out great food... best poutine in all of haliburton

The Bushkung Smokehouse is located at the entrance to the Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Park and is about two minutes from the Wolf Centre. The first thing I noticed as I approached the restaurant were the big smokers at the side of the building and the lovely aroma of BBQ smoke in the air. The inside of the restaurant has a rustic feel; the tables were finished slab wood and the dining room was all finished wood floors, walls and trim. There is a small stage area for live bands to play and one pool table. The back wall of the dining area are large windows so during the day the natural light is very appreciated. The wait staff took our drink order immediately and our waiter was very friendly. The menu was filled with typical smoked barbecue items. I personally got the beef brisket sandwich with pickled onions and chipotle mayo. Also ordered at our table were the smokehouse chicken blt sandwich, the beef brisket strips with baked beans and potato salad and a pulled pork entree. The food, according to everyone was brilliant, tasty, pretty much everything you would want in a smokehouse restaurant. The only negative was the baked beans. The baked beans came in a standard ramekin which consisted of kidney and brown beans. The consistency seemed off (too starchy, sticky) and the taste was not great. Besides that, everything was brilliant. In my opinion, the prices were really good for this type of food. My only other negative was regarding the atmosphere; the music was far too loud especially for the noon hour which made conversation at our table difficult. The sound quality was excellent, but half the volume would have been much better.

The brisket was delicious along with the poutine, really nice charring and colouring and a rich flavour. It seemed obvious that they put a lot of love in the food. We had three serves, both guys were fantastic however unfortunately the person behind the bar ruined it for us though with her attitude - did not feel welcome and was truly unfriendly - for sure no tequila in the margarita. She wouldn’t give us refills on pop, I guess 20 minutes before closing at 3pm that was too much for her. I still rocked the tip but I hope to the owners none goes to her. BBQ sauce was delicious, next time she should have some to get her blood sugar up and not ruin our meal. We won’t be back.

Great spot to grab a bite after hiking through the Haliburton Forest. The smoked meats are juicy and full of flavour! The staff is very welcoming and upfront about the kitchen waiting times which was appreciated. Portion sizes are very generous, and everything is decently priced. We ordered the meat platter, and had leftovers to go between 2 people (picture attached). Overall great experience!

We were very disappointed. We were served lukewarm water. Didn't even get a drink for well past the bottom of the water.
Splurged on the $60meat platter which we expected would have been enough for leftovers. The only leftovers were the fat and such for out dog.
We got 1 small cornbread. The potato salad was Mush and flavourless. We could barely tell what was pork a d chicken. The brisket was fatty, a good smoking would have rendered all that fat. The ribs were dried out. We were offered no sauces, which were needed. We even had to ask for cutlery.
Needless to say, we won't be back.
Management needs to up their game.
Oh and no garnish on my ceasar. Geeshhh

This place COULD be really great! There was live music which was nice. But 23.00 for a gluten free brisket bun with no side…nah! A side of fries- 10.00! That’s nuts. You would be better off bringing your own precooked brisket to your campsite and make your own sandwiches. Would be cheaper and taste better! Or if you want to dine out- just drive to Haliburton and have a really great reasonable priced meal at another local restaurant. Forget about this one. 100.00 for one adult and two teens. Plus tip. No thanks.

Food is disgusting. Pizza tasted like a frozen store bought.
Wings smelled funny and undercooked.
Won’t eat here again
Maybe the smoked meat is ok but the pizza did not come from a wood burning oven

Foods great, staff and owner are friendly, great live music as well! My boyfriend and I had the beer & cheese dip, lamb lollipops & the brisket sandwich and were very happy with everything we ordered. Definitely want to come back to try the Brie dip!
