Truss Foodworks Smokehouse

I am not sure if this is an off season for this place or if it is on its way downhill? When this place kicked off, it was amazing! It had a great menu, welcoming service, and was just an all around great place to be. Now the menu is restricted and the service is moody and lacklustre, almost geared for more of a rowdy bar crowd. If you are going for drinks, music, smokehouse food with a side of more smokehouse food, served with attitude, you are in the right place. If you want something outside of that, and want to eat something different everyday you’re at Haliburton, it may be best to rent a cottage with a full kitchen and make your own food.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that this place has an excellent breakfast sandwich.

I expected overpriced bar food, but happy to report the cost of a McDonald's combo is similar. At least here the food was great.

MUST try the brisket....wow. The sandwiches are amazing with their pickle coleslaw...such an incredible flavor! Super friendly staff, and a very enjoyable meal for a fair price. Thank you!

Wheelchair accessibility: Low building and it has a nice wide ramp to get into.

We visited family who have a cottage near by.

We made reservations for my mom's 70th birthday and the waitress who we had orchestrated the live band sing happy birthday to her - at my request.

What a blast. Great atmosphere, great music and AMAZING FOOD AND SERVICE.

Great beer, great atmosphere, and yummy vegetarian pulled "pork" ( jackfruit).
The Wolf sanctuary nearby is a must visit if you love wildlife and Canadian Winter ❄️

The server is being rude to everyone trying to get a table, and has horrible attitude. Half the restaurant is open, and including myself and my friend 8 people gave up and left. Super disappointing

I am here with tour group and the food surprises me! I had smoke chicken sandwich, the chicken is so tender with full of flavor, i really like the taste of the chicken, the bread of the sandwich is sourdough in perfect crunchy texture, in fact, I didn’t expect the quality of the group meal but this restaurant makes different! Compliment to the chef!

Had a smoked cheese burger.
You know a burger is great when it can stand on its own. Little to no condiments.
This is it!! Nice bun, great beef texture and has a nice smoke flavor.
A little onion and special sauce and BAM, you have it.
Hand made and smoked on site. Big enough I could barely get my mouth around it. Mike, the owner and pit boss takes pride in the smoking process. He smokes everything. Good job.

Visit Wednesday August 28, 2024. Mobility impaired accessible with washrooms. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Visited the co-located Boshkung Brewery store and did not have the opportunity to dine but the food looked and smelled amazing.

We ordered the meat platter and received very generous portions for $50 - good value for the money. However, I found the smoke lite and missing the rich flavour I’ve experienced at other smoke houses. It’s worth noting that everyone has their own tastes and this might be exactly how some prefer their meat. One thing that feels like a miss is charging for sauce rather than having their signature sauces at the table - this one was new to me. And such small servings for the amount of meat provided. The service was friendly and relatively quick. All round, the experience was good. I would put this in your list of places to consider for dinner if you’re in the region.

I waited close to 10 minutes, to have two waitresses say ill be right with you. While waiting...... that can seem like an eternity. We eventually just walked out... not even being brought to a table let alone having a menu. If you go there expecting food... you might ber disappointed. #gotnofood. This place was so much better when it was the cook house.

Save your money (and time)

My wife and I were excited to try the new Boshkung Smokehouse. We've been loyal customers ever since Boshkung brewing opened underneath Rhubarb. Our cottage is a ten minute drive away so we'd frequent there often. buying up all the merch and raving about the kellerbier. My dog currently has on the Boshkung Collar.

We were sad hearing that they had left that location, but figured we would make the drive to the Smokehouse. We loved Truss, so we figured Boshkung would expand on and improve the branding.

wow were we disappointed.

we called in our order at 530, 2 Chicken Sandwiches and a poutine. we were told it would take 45 min, and I said thats great can you actually make it an hour we have a bit of a drive.

We showed up at 630 and i spent 10 minutes being ignored in an empty restaurant. I was told that I would be helped by someone who was currently busy, but there were 5 or 6 employees just hanging out at the bar. after i paid I was made to wait even longer for them to finally bring out my food. This was all fine because i assumed it meant they were putting time and care into my order. Nope. i also asked for cutlery, they said they had none.

i've attached a photo of what my food was advertised looking like, versus what we actually got. These sandwiches were 16$ without a side. The Chicken was small unlike the photo, and the bacon wasn't even cooked. What took them so long? The BLT was advertised as having Romaine lettuce, but we received a pinch of shredded lettuce on both. the chicken was rubbery like it had been sitting out, it definitely didn't just come from the fryer.

the poutine, i ordered a large, was also incredibly small. a single layer of fries in the container with what looked and tasted like gravy from a can. If it was made in house.. it was old.

If this is the quality control that Boshkung is putting their name on, ill be careful to steer clear of all locations. There are too many amazing restaurants and food trucks opening up by people who actually care what they're serving.

Extremely disappointing coming from an established brand.
