Far east was a childhood treat growing up, I have very fond memories eating far east on my Mickey Mouse tablecloth my mom use to put on the floor and we use to all just sit around and eat on the floor in the living room. I have since become an adult lol and I don’t live here anymore and I’m staying in an Airbnb that’s right down the street from my beloved Chinese food joint. Some of the reviews made me feel weary about giving them a go but my inner child said no Milka go with your gut and I’m glad I did. There were two main things I loved from there as a kid. The chicken balls and the Cantonese chow mein. So i got the s&s chicken balls dinner with rice and an order and Cantonese chow mein with no beef and my goodness the smell brought me back to being 8 years old I could wait to get home. Everything tasted just how I remembered. Nostalgia with every bite. Yes the store front hasn’t changed in forever but there is something about the grunge I like. Oh today is a monday and it is listed that they are closed but they were very much open just give them a call ahead of time to make sure.

Honestly, majority of the time the food is served really well. I think it depends on the time I order. If you order around lunch, the food is less freshly prepared, but dinner it's really good. Cash only, but a lot of Chinese food places do that so I am used to it. They provide ample sauces (soy, sweet and sour, hit sauce, etc) too without even requesting it. I have tried a few places within the vicinity and I have to say this place is by far the best I found for authentic Chinese food.

I've been going there for years. Good food, but the store needs a coat of paint after fifty years!

Overall solid meal, just paper bag issue and carrying drink when the paper 📜🗞️ bag gets ripped TOO EASILY. Foods very soggy and healthy with too much vegetables. I tried the Szechuan noodles with chicken 🍗🐔 and it was alright, help fill my stomach and it was only $10 or less plus drink $13. Pretty cheap meals but the chef's can't speak English so it's hard to communicate with them. Overall I will go to this place if its my last option for cheap meals unlike most Chinese expensive restaurants nowadays, Empty 🫙🫗 atmosphere, barely anyone around the place these days, soo quiet and empty

The food is good—nothing amazing, but it does the job. The real issue is that it’s 2025 and they’re still cash only. A modern payment solution is not asking a lot, and really isn’t a big investment these days.

Best Chinese food in the West End, no doubt. My family have literally been ordering from them since before I was born, and nothing else has ever quite compared.
My personal favorites are the Cantonese chow mein, General Tao chicken, and the egg rolls are excellent.
Only downside is paying with cash, but after working in small businesses, I know the debit card readers are expensive to keep. Helps keep costs on the menu down, however.

We just ordered our dinner from this restaurant today. It is the worst chinese food we have ever had. The chicken balls go mushy with watery sweet and sour sauce. The only thing that tasted okay was the rice. We ended up throwing most of it in the garbage. Obviously we will never order from this restaurant again.

I've lived here all my life they haven't renovated since the 70s or even before that it's all cash money so I'm sure they don't report it to the CRA lousy food lousy customer service they should close down or at least give someone else a chance

Just ate a delicious meal of chicken balls, mushroom fried rice, and chicken chop suey. Other Chinese food restaurants closer to my house, but I make the trip for the chicken balls.

I really wanted to like this and there were some successes. Overall kinda mediocre. Food was hit and miss with some dishes tasteless. Customer service was horrendous. Value for money was good overall and vegetables were super fresh. If I went again we’ll avoid certain dishes and recommend you do too but there are some wins.- Spring rolls: $1 each: these are terrible. Small. Tasteless. Clearly frozen and bought in. 1/10- Vegetable Lo Mein: actually really nice! Best part of the meal. 9/10- Tofu in black bean sauce: completely tasteless and watery: 1/10.- Chicken fried rice: a little light on the amount of chicken and the rice was a bit sticky, but it was a hit overall with our family: 7/10- Bok Choy: great texture but completely tasteless even though it is fried with garlic. Can’t hate it though as it was cooked well. 7/10.- Beef with vegetables: Very watery but, tasted nice. 8/10.Now, let’s talk about customer service. It’s horrendous! I got yelled at down the phone and then yelled at again when I came to pick up the order. I actually don’t care but, it’s not professional. 2/10.Forget all of the above… the restaurant is absolutely filthy. There is dirt everywhere. If the front is so gross, who knows what’s in the back. 1/10.Advice for management: put someone polite on order taking. Improve the quality of your frozen fried foods that you bring in. And give the front of house a wipe down.
