I recently hosted my birthday party at Old Mill Restaurant with about 25 guests, and unfortunately, the experience was deeply disappointing.
I arrived an hour early to set up and was shocked by how I was treated. The staff was extremely rude and wouldn’t even seat me, claiming they had a high tea reservation—even though I was the one hosting a large event. I wasn’t offered a chair, water, or any help with the items I brought for the celebration. I felt like an inconvenience rather than a valued guest.
To make matters worse, I was not informed in advance that all the drinks would be placed on one bill. When the check came, I was stuck paying for everyone’s drinks, which was both stressful and embarrassing. When I raised this issue, the manager argued with me, insisting I had been told—when I absolutely hadn’t.
The service toward my guests was also lacking. Staff were dismissive and didn’t bother to take down names for individual payments. Details about gratuity and how the bill would be handled were never communicated clearly.
Overall, what should have been a joyful celebration turned into a frustrating and uncomfortable experience. I expected better communication and basic hospitality, especially for a group booking of this size. I would not recommend this venue for any kind of special event.
Popped in spontaneously today after canoeing on the Humber River. I can't emphasize how beautiful this entire facility is, very welcoming. Vintage interior design, established from 1914. I had the soup of the day (potato and leeks) and my friend had the corsica garden pasta. Also ordered the peach nectar mimosa. All did not disappoint. We were very satisfied and left very happy!
A lovely brunch spot. I love how they have preserved the area. You can have great chats with family and take a stroll outside afterwards with beautiful landscapes . Trees and flowers galore. The buffet had a lot of variety so it’s worth the experience. Staff were lovely and friendly and our service was amazing.
Jus bful!! Speechless!
Service was amazing. The waiter was great. Food was not the best, not fresh.
I went there for the buffet and the food was very delicious especially the dessert, plenty of options. My personal favourite was definitely the chocolate fountain, everyone's favorite. One star off because of the meat quality, it might look good but it is actually tough meat. I have to praise the staff for their services and attitudes. One last important thing, when paying for the bill, make sure to press custom tips because the tips they include for you includes the tax.
That’s a great place to spend brunch or breakfast time with your family and friends. Atmosphere is great and the food is amazing.
Definitely worth checking this place out.
Beautiful vintage/heritage site.

Long walk from a pay parking lot. Went there for the brunch buffet. After tips, $70 per person. The quality of the food is not great. The variety of food is okay. The seafood salad bar is good. The lamb stew is one of the good choices among the hot dishes. No juice bar, only coffee and tea are served.
The location is spectacular though. Worth trying once. But, if you are going only for a good food, not recommended.

This was my very first time at the restaurant. We were a group of 5 of which 4 were repeat customers who made this their annual after Christmas event. We had the lunch buffet which I’m usually not a fan however I gave it a try. I had a lovely salad. Main dish selection was poor as there were limited options. Dessert options were not bad.
Unfortunately, my luncheon ended with share disappointments. Our server came with individual bills, then asked us how we were going to pay (whether as a group or individually). I made a mistake on the point of sale machine when entering my tip amount, and accidentally overtip the server. That resulted in my credit card being charged double the total price for the food including tip. I then pointed out the error to the server who advised the amount could not be reversed. I then suggested that the bill could cover another member of our party which the server quickly denied. I then asked for the manager who reiterated the server’s messaging to me. The manager also refused to reverse the charge and told me I had to take up my issue with the Restaurant next week on their regular business day given this was Saturday, to which I utterly objected. I also found this quite shocking, given that the server, a few minutes ago had asked us whether we wanted 5 individual bills after she already came with the 5 individual bills and appeared she would have gone back to change the bill, had we responded that we needed one bill, yet was unwilling to correct the error I made.
In the end, the manager allowed us to pay for 5 meals via 4 bills (which was what I suggested in the first place).
That left a sour taste in my mouth and our group was totally disappointed and utterly dissatisfied with the way this was handled and the seemingly poor customer service and overall experience.
Never again will I ever visit this place as it was shameful to be treated this poorly by both the manager and server, which included being deprived of my dessert I paid for and already started eating. This experience also left us feeling unwelcomed, mistreated and disappointed. NOT VERY GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR SUCH A SO-CALLED PRESTIGIOUS RESTAURANT.

Cesar is a five-star waiter!!! He was extremely wam, pleasant, attentive and efficient. He checked in regularly to ensure that we had everything we needed to enjoy our evening. Cesar is a great asset to The Old Mill and we appreciated his superb level of service.

Been here the last few times for brunch during the holiday seasons and it's probably the last time I'll come here as it feels like the quality and service has declined by the year.
We were seated at a reasonable time and the server asked us if we wanted tea or coffee at the beginning, we then proceeded to enjoy the brunch. Throughout the time we were there, the server did not offer to top up our coffee or tea, and we had to ask a couple of times to have it topped up.
The food was very mediocre. The mussels and shrimp at the salad bar was very dry and tasteless and the fish was full of small bones for salad purposes. As for hot food, it was very inconsistent, some of the ox tails were very tender while other pieces were tough to chew. The roast beef was also very tough and wasn't tasteful.
Our cutleries were collected near the end of the two hours while we were still getting the last plate of dessert. And at the end we had to ask for one more round of coffee top up.
At the end, one of the staff came over and told us we had 4 minutes left while there were MANY open tables. I understand that they do state there is a 2 hour limit, but being more less kicked out right at the 2 hour mark is less than ideal.

Disappointed.
We have been going to the Old Mill for Christmas Brunch for the past 8 years excluding the Co-vid years since my children have been young.
Atmosphere, food and service has always brought us back each year.
This year it fell short, one of my children is anyphylactic to certain foods and in previous years the cooks have always made an effort to provide us the answers on what is safe. As he is limited by his dietary restrictions.
This year when we asked the chef if they could confirm the ingredients on the label for an item which they have done many times before. The chef indicated they have 400 visitors today and could not do that. The lack of effort to find out or having someone check was shocking. Plus how many customers you have is no bearing on my request.
Let's add to this the continuous reminder of the 2hr limit of our "experience". When confirming over the phone our reservation it was noted, at our check-in and again when we are seated, and the bill handed to us well before the 2hrs. Unsure what this about as it wasn't like this in previous years. But definitely does not make you feel welcome.
The food and atmosphere was decent and we definitely enjoyed in previous years.
However the price that is charged and the poor service that is received is definitely a flag to not return. It's very unfortunate as this has been a tradition that my family has looked forward to each year.
I hope this feedback reaches the right individuals to help improve their quality of service for the next time.
