To Whom It May Concern,
On Saturday, November 22, 2025, at approximately 12:20 PM, my family and I visited the Firehouse Subs location at Ogilvie and Blair (2014 Ogilvie Rd Unit 1, Ottawa, ON). We chose to come directly after seeing Firehouse Subs participate in the Santa Parade at Queen Elizabeth Drive, and we were excited to support the restaurant.
Upon arrival, we were impressed with the interior decorations, and I would like to commend the male staff members working behind the counter for their professionalism and courteous service. We placed an order consisting of:
- 2x Kid Meals (meatball subs)
- 1x Large Spicy Cajun Chicken Sub combo with cheddar and broccoli soup and drink
- 1x Large Italian Sub combo with chili and drink
The total came to $68.71 including tax.
Unfortunately, the quality of the food was deeply disappointing. Both large subs were soggy at the bottom to the point that they fell apart when lifted from their containers. The mess left behind was unpleasant and made the subs nearly inedible. The chili, while visually similar to Wendy’s chili, lacked flavor unless hot sauce was added, and the only notable difference was the inclusion of celery.
I have since read other online reviews and discovered that similar complaints have been raised by multiple customers. It appears that customer service often responds by asking for more information, but the underlying issues remain unresolved. Based on my experience and the consistency of these complaints, I have little confidence that these problems will be addressed or corrected.
I am submitting this letter not only to document my experience but also to emphasize that the quality concerns are ongoing and systemic. While I appreciate the professionalism of your staff, the food quality does not reflect the standards expected from Firehouse Subs.
Restaurantji Recommends
An employee (male) just made an explicit racist gesture (slanted eye gesture) to my wife, I didn’t find out till she was out of the store. This is unacceptable in 2025.

The Boss and I went there for dinner recently. We'd never been to any Firehouse Sub shop before. The place is easy to get to right off Ogilvie Rd. Lots of free parking too.
We went inside and I don't think there were a dozen people in the restaurant including drivers waiting around for mobile delivery orders. The decor pays homage to first responders. As a former first responder, it's a nice touch. There were five or six employees behind the counter taking orders, prepping and serving.
We each ordered medium sub meals. A medium sandwich is a six or seven inch bun while a large is a foot long. The meal deal included the sandwich, a small bag of chips or a cookie and a fountain drink. Not familiar with the ordering process or what condiments came on the sandwiches, my wife asked a few questions. The server was polite and answered her questions. What caught us off guard was that some condiments were free while others you had to pay for. Hmmmmmm. Our meals cost us $35 with taxes and no gratuity.
After ordering our meals, we sat at a table after being informed that they would bring the sandwiches to us. The restaurant was fairly clean and a couple of tables had some garbage and food scraps on them. In my opinion, it wasn't busy enough that one of the staff members couldn't have taken a few minutes to go out and wipe down the tables.
After waiting for about 10 minutes, the sandwiches were brought to our table. Each was served unwrapped in a small basket with a pickle spear on the side. The actual sandwich looked less than inspiring. I had the New York Steamer while my wife had the Firehouse Meatball. As with any fast food advertisement, the actual sandwich looked nothing like the photo you'd see in the ad. The ad shows my sandwich piled high with pastrami and corned beef. On my sandwich, I don't think the cow would have felt anything being carved off his side. A couple of slices of each meat and that was it. My wife's sub looked pretty good.
After biting into the sub, I will say that the sub was tasty and the buns were fresh but they were hardly filling at all. My wife said she wasn't overly impressed with her sandwich. The chocolate chip cookies we had (they also have oatmeal, double chocolate and another form of chocolate chip) were individually wrapped in cellophane. They appear to be home made but they were a bit stale for my liking.
I give our experience a solid three stars out of five. They subs were tasty but not worth the menu price of almost $13 each - remember, it was a six inch sub. Based on the cost of the meal in relation to the amount of food included in each meal, I'd say we did not get our money's worth. It looks like they do a fair amount of mobile delivery orders but as far as I'm concerned, customers actually in the restaurant should be given first priority. I don't think it should have taken 10 minutes to prepare two six inch subs. If the portion sizes, meaning contents in the sandwich, were a little more generous, the experience might have been a little more palatable.
After we left that shop and were in the car, we discussed our Firehouse experience and decided that it's not a sub shop we would venture to again.

I ordered a large sub but received a medium sub. The receipt was not provided after the order so not sure what I paid for. The sub was a little bit bigger than an iPhone. Very disappointed
