McCabe's Irish Pub & Grill in downtown Guelph offers great pub food & drinks. We came here on a Sunday afternoon - The Father's day weekend. Service was great, food was tasty, drinks were cold & delicious. We ordered a garden salad ($13) with grilled salmon ($7)
Great value compared with other establishments in the block. We get what we want - no fancy vibes but that's the typical Irish pub that we always go to.

This was our first time eating here. We were a party of 5 and were seated right away. The place was near empty at the time we were there, which was during dinner time. It took 20 minutes in total for our drink order to be taken and served. Our food was served in good time once we placed our order. I had the beef dip with ceaser salad. It was good, though the dip was a little tasteless. I was shocked by how small the beef sandwich was in comparison to what I was charged for it. Others at my table ordered fish and chips. The fish was good but the fries were cold or like warm and tasted old. The coleslaw was tasteless. We were surprised that the tartar sauce was not made in house and was just a pre packaged sauce that was crap. It did nothing to elevate the fish. We are used to pubs making their own tartar sauce. One of us ordered beer which was flat. With regards to the atmosphere, it was fairly quiet as it wasn’t busy, though I have to say for the first 15-20 minutes of being there it was extremely humid inside. There was a heat wave that day and we were surprised their a/c wasn’t on. They eventually did turn on the ac and it became more comfortable inside. Overall, the food was mostly a disappointment for us and will not revisit this place next time we are in town.
