This place is amazing. Food is fresh, high-quality, and lots of choices. Place is very clean and pleasant. Staff are super friendly and professional, and the owner is kind. Price is very reasonable as well. Don't listen to the negative reviews, I go here every other week and it's the best Indian restaurant I have ever tried, even compared to Toronto.

The lunch buffet here was great! I mostly forgot buffets existed (post-pandemic), and happened upon this one semi-randomly. The food was delicious; with a good variety, the staff were friendly, and the price seemed reasonable. Couldn't really ask for more-- will definitely be back.

We ordered Tandoori Chicken and Fish Tikka from this restaurant today, and it was honestly terrible. The chicken was stale, full of artificial colors, and the taste was so bad we almost threw up after trying it. It didn’t feel safe to eat at all.
What made things worse was the way the staff handled it. Instead of apologizing or even just listening to our concern, they brushed it off and told us they had sold “10–12 portions already without complaints.” That felt so disrespectful like our experience didn’t matter.
Even though we couldn’t eat the food, they still insisted on charging us. I paid only so I could get a receipt to file a complaint with the authorities, because food this bad is not just disappointing it’s dangerous and serious public health concern.
As a customer, all I expected was decent food and a little accountability when things went wrong. Sadly, I got neither. I would never want anyone else to go through the same experience.
I will be drafting complaints to concerned authorities and make sure this does not happen again.

It felt like poor‑quality food was being passed off as authentic Indian cuisine. This restaurant was always our first choice for the Indian food in Guelph for the last 15 years, always good flavours, no short cuts, great solid quality. Our takeout this evening was not the same. Maybe the management was changed, or the restaurant has a new cook? The flavour is missing, very mediocre food, my favourite kulcha bread is totally different, the stuffing is made not the same way as before and the flavours are missing. Butter chicken sauce is watered down, less flavour for sure. Veggie pakoras are not flavourful and crispy. Overall it is not the same… even the tamarind date chutney was missing flavours and was watered down to the sugary syrupy liquid. Spice roots restaurant has a solid reputation for the taste and quality, please keep it up.
