Warka Tree Ethiopean Restaurant

I’ve been to Warka Tree a couple of times in the past 10 years and always loved the food, with no real issues. It has been a few years since our last visit, so we decided to go back.

This time, the food itself was good for the most part, but the overall experience was off. The vibe felt strange and uncomfortable, the music was so loud that we could barely have a conversation a was skipping constantly for the first 15 minutes we sat down. we were given very few napkins, which is especially inconvenient for Ethiopian food.

Unfortunately, the biggest issue — and the reason I will never return — is that I got the worst food poisoning of my entire life after eating here. I was extremely ill for three full days, followed by another four days before I fully recovered from the intensity of the symptoms. It was honestly a horrible experience.

After reading other recent reviews and seeing additional concerns raised by others, this experience pushed me past the point of ever wanting to give this restaurant another chance.

It’s very disappointing, especially because I had positive experiences here in the past, but based on this visit, I can’t recommend Warka Tree anymore.

Ordered takeout and got three different dishes. The base of each dish was very good but the injera was repulsive vs. Other injera I’ve in the past. Firstly, I recognize that it will not be the same as eating fresh out of the oven. That said, it was so soggy, cold and honestly not very good tasting that we threw more than 90% of it away which seems like a sad waste (we order extra naan when ordering Indian and it’s always good. There was also too much bread with each dish. Normally i wouldn’t complain about more than less but it dwarfed the actual dishes we ordered. Ate the leftovers today and couldn’t get past the bread taste that took over everything. Had to throw the rest away. I’ve had Ethiopian food in the past but this just didn’t cut it. I know they’ve been there a while, so business must still be ok for them. Maybe I just ordered on a bad day.

Today Sentayehu Tessema the owner of this restaurant hit a cyclist, left her laying in the road, parked in front of her restaurant and unloaded her car. A group of school children helped the cyclist. She acted like nothing happened until the police showed up. Cyclist was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Food was great! Whenever we needed something the lady wasn’t anywhere to be seen tho lol and the place is a little run down the bathroom was gross!

Ordered and Picked up the Kitfo Special and was really disappointed. The berbere completely overpowered the dish, masking any of the rich flavors I was expecting. I had high hopes, but sadly it wasn’t worth the money or the drive.

My go-to is the vegetarian platter (which is actually vegan). Super affordable, tasty and healthy! Very filling (for me at least) too.

Fantastic food with extra big portions. I ordered extra so I'd have leftovers and how we have so much!

The food I order is zilzil tibes its dry and chewi not worth trying. Very disappointing.

The food was great. Could use a bit of an update in decor. But since the food was great who cares.

Fabulous food. Worth a 40 min drive each way!

A loved one of mine was sexually assaulted here on Oct 19, 2024 at 6pm.

A police report has been filed and we are aiming to press charges. Do not go to this establishment.

The food is great... If you manage to get it open. Opening times do not correspond to what is displayed online (by the time I'm writing this). It is the second time I check online before coming and it is closed.

Very good Coffee, food is always good and fresh. Keep in mind its not fast food, its good food.
