With the Grain is my Saturday morning ritual. The coffee and baked goods are amazing. I stock up for the week with an oatmeal sandwich loaf (awesome for our Saturday lunch grilled cheese sandwiches), baguettes (they make for fantastic French toasts), croissant bread (which my daughter devours in her school lunches) and often something sweet as a treat - the brownies, bee sting squares and cinnamon rolls are always a hit! The staff is super friendly and I appreciate the loyalty cards for coffee and bread. The bakery itself is small but so quaint being in an old historical house. If you haven’t tried With the Grain, you’re missing out on a Guelph experience.

I stopped in today for a coffee, a loaf of bread, and a croissant. While I generally appreciate that the kitchen staff work with their hands (and I trust they wash them), I was really put off by what happened at the front counter.
The person working the cash register rang me through, and then, without washing their hands or putting on gloves, immediately used those same hands to grab the loaf of bread I was buying and put it in a bag.
When I asked if this was normal practice, I was told “yes, that’s how we do it here.” I then watched the exact same thing happen with the very next customer in line. Honestly, that’s pretty gross. Handling money and then touching ready-to-eat food without any barrier is a major hygiene issue.
It’s a shame because the bakery itself has a great reputation, but this left me uncomfortable and I won’t be back unless they address basic food hygiene and safety practices.

Friendliness of staff, and exceptional customer service alone makes this my favorite regular stop throughout the week...but especially on the weekend for gooey-good cinnamon buns (yes please, I'll some pan scrapings). The environment is such that you easily strike up simple conversations with other patrons, and complete strangers become community! Truly a treasure within our ExPNG!

First time going to this Bakery and we will definitely be back! Staff was friendly and there was lots to choose from. Everything we bought was great, highly recommend. There’s a park nearby making it a great place to stop at before going for a walk.

I came with my partner here a year ago to ask for a cake. These two ladies at the front one was busy to even acknowledge that we’re very very much interested in a custom cake. One took us in and she was so confused about a 8 inch cake lol if your going to run a bakery make sure you have a good knowledgeable people who can pick up a simple request & accommodating to its customers. Atleast say hello. We left so fast. There’s no hype to this business, go elsewhere.
