August 8 on Upper James St was once a very good place to go for sushi. Loved the food and the vast selection . All at very reasonable prices. The service was very good, a sushi restaurant that I remember well. A sushi restaurant I will recommend without a second thought. It's too bad that it burned down almost a year ago, with no sign of it being repair or even to be rebuilt.

The service here has gone down. Couple of months ago, we dined here and they were not so nice. There was also hair in our soup bowls, all they did was not charge for it but they did not bother replacing or compensating. Instead, the waitress looked at us and our hair multiple times to try to claim that it might be ours even though ours was tied back and hers was not. The funny thing is that the hair was so embedded in the soup. This is a hygiene issue and it’s sad because this was our go to sushi place for the last 2 yrs. Why I am writing this review is because they never bothered to reply to my feedback or complaint on their website either.
Generally speaking the food is really good, especially torched sushi. But chicken wings are terrible, 10 times worse than the wings from fried chicken places. The price for "all you can eat" is slightly expensive, try your best to get your money's worth (psychologically). The staff are nice and friendly, they add water to our cups quickly. The toilet is dirty and smelly with very sticky floor.

My husband and I are regular customers at the upper james location. Last time we came in, they added a screen before the menu: We first had to agree to make sure we eat everything we order, or else we would be charged for it by the restaurant. Unless you agree to the terms, you cannot move on to the menu. I immediately felt like a 7 year old girl, back in my mom's kitchen, getting punished for not empting my plate.....?!?!?!. When I choose to spend my money in a restaurant, I expect to have a good time and not be disciplined and taught how to behave. I like the food, always have, but the attitude has ruined the entire experience of a tasting menu.
