It was very disappointing. My 93 year old grandfather drove from Mississauga to come to the restaurant. We called and hear the message saying they were open. We searched on Google to make sure it was open.
This was Saturday Oct. 19th. We parked and walked to the restaurant to find out it was closed.
This was such a disappointment for us as my grandfather was so excited to visit this place since he used to visit it years ago.
Better communication would have been nice. See as we did our diligence to make sure it was open.
Used to be great. New owners are ruining a once-legendary Hamilton restaurant.

I just seen on the news that this place will reopen next week. I have always loved this place but over the last couple years my mobility has suffered so I have only been able to get take out. I am hoping that there will be some wheelchair accessibility so I can go back and enjoy the place I use to love

Sad! This landmark restaurant deserves to be bought by a new owner who will bring it back to its past glory. It should continue to serve all the local cities with its amazing food!
I had been going for the past 20-25 years. Well before moving to the area.
Hoping for the best !!

Whenever I visited Ontario, I would go out of my way to visit the Black Forest Inn at least two or more times per visit. It was great, until the new owner took over. He single handedly made sure I would never come back. After a long trip from the east coast to Toronto, I drove down to Hamilton same day to share a meal here with a close friend. We went in about 100 minutes before closing time and the owner would not seat us. He said they aren't serving any more customers that day, Telling him how far I came to dine there because I considered it a special place fell on deaf ears. Okay, I won't be a Karen about this, so we left. But by this time, there was a line of customers outside and as we opened the door, to leave, people. asked us what was wrong (this door is usually an entrance only with a separate door for exit, so it would be unusual for someone to leave this way). I told them they are not seating or serving anyone more this evening. The owner then barked at me, "I'll deal with my customers myself, sir". Well what was I? And clearly they are not going to be his customers Why did he not put a sign on the door rather than letting people line up as usual? I found him rude and lacking in any hospitality skills. Combined with the shrinking portions and increasing prices, I decided we were done with this place On my previous visit, we chatted with the waitress about the portion size and she confirmed it, saying everyone, customer and staff were happier under the old owners. Now I see that the place is permanently closing on Facebook, where the owner blocked further comments from anyone because a few people were honestly negative about his tenure as owner. So, while I am sad to see a long-standing Hamilton Institution gone, I am not at all surprised. I have received poor treatment at very few restaurants, but the few other times it happened and I did not return, it appears I was not the only one. All three of the restaurants closed. Now a fourth. if you are going to run a hospitality business, you need to be hospitable.
