The service was a bit slow, but the restaurant manager personally came to our table to apologize, which was appreciated. He also offered free dessert to make up for the wait. The food was excellent, and the pizza gets two thumbs up 👍

I’ve been there many times and the food is always amazing. I usually order pasta, but the pizza is also great. The restaurant can get loud, but you can still talk to people closer to you. The cocktails are also good. Recommend

We joined friends for a lovely meal yesterday. Of course there were a variety of dishes from which to choose; but with all the reviews and reccomendations it made our choices difficult. We ended up ordering the meatballs with garlic bread, a definite hit!, the Pizza Fuks, the Flat Iron steak with rapini, Oysters, Seafood Risotto and mushroom Gnocchi. All were excellent. We first tried Born & Raised when they opened; we found the wait staff then very arrogent , which soured our experience. So we tried again, after hearing good things from friends and family; so 10 years later tried again. Boy are we glad we did! Wait staff were very friendly, easy to talk to and as a celiac, my only disappointment was I was told I could not have the gnocchi. Our drinks were prepared well and the food again, was outstanding! We definitely will return, thank you to all in the restaurant that made our night out so great. Major kudos to the chef and kitchen!

I’ve since learned that the front tables during our 6pm reservation were mostly booked, even though a few still appeared available until we left. The table we were seated at, in the dim corner at the back, is apparently often requested by guests who enjoy a more secluded and private setting. Supposedly, it’s a popular choice for special occasions. The front tables, while bright and open, are set closely together—though the back table didn’t feel all that different. Either way, I guess I’ll just make sure to spell out my seating preference clearly next time.
As for the food, the feature pasta was phenomenal and the cocktails were great. The pizza was overcooked for my taste. The dough was tough and had a burnt flavour, but I understand that may be part of their intended style. Overall, the flavour profiles were enjoyable.
Born & Raised on James Street North is a true gem in Hamilton’s dining scene. The atmosphere is warm, intimate, and full of energy perfect for date night or a night out with friends. Wouldn’t really say it’s a family friendly environment. It is quite loud/busy something to consider depending on the type of evening you’re looking for.
We started with fresh oysters that were beautifully presented and full of flavour. The cocktail list was balanced, creative, and well-crafted. I ordered the salmon and it was cooked to absolute perfection—crispy on the outside, tender inside, and plated with care.
The wood-fired pizzas and handmade pastas looked incredible—definitely on my list for next time. You can tell the ingredients are fresh and the kitchen takes real pride in every dish.
If you’re looking for restaurants in Hamilton with an elevated Italian-inspired cuisine with a cool, downtown vibe, Born & Raised absolutely delivers.

Great food. Very well priced. The portion sizes for the pasta are huge. We went with a group and had about one appetizer and one main each and we had to take the majority of our mains home but the food was great. Would highly recommend the meatballs and the pizza.

Cute inside, bustling atmosphere. Workers are nice and I liked being able to watch the man making pizzas. Food was really delicious. Minus 1 star for atmosphere becasue our table area was very very dim and it was only near the end of our dining that they the turned it on. Minus 2 for service becasue my food came wayyy later than the rest of my table even tho me and others order basically the same thing so it wasn't like mine was more difficult to make. Mine was the simplest dish out of them all. Overall I enjoyed my experience. :p

I went out for dinner with my partner and in-laws and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We all raved about how fantastic they were and how the atmosphere makes it feel like you are actually eating a meal in Italy. The staff were also so friendly as they made you feel like you were part of the family. Highly recommend for some authentic Italian cuisine!
