After a long time we decided to try Das Schnitzelhaus, hoping that finally they were going to feature the same great fare that we used to enjoy at the Black Forest Inn. We had been coming here since 1970 when it was still operated by the original owners,
Fred and Rosa Oberreiter from Austria. We were not disappointed as the food was delicious and the service very good. The prices considering other similar venues out there were quite reasonable. Having one of the cooks come out and check with us
how the food was as well as the Manager who thanked us for coming and also inquired how our experience turned out. Yes,
the Restaurant could use some sprucing up but I can understand the owner wants to ensure that the business continues to grow as those who have not been back for some time return bringing with them new clientele. We hope to be back shortly. Keep up the good work! Guten Appetit - Werner, Eleanore and Caleb

3 out of 3 isn’t too bad…
We have not been to this location since the Black Forest closed down.
With the new ownership, this place is still amazing! The food was incredible with huge portions and ever so tasty!!! I truly can not say enough about this place and it will for sure be a staple restaurant for us going forward!!!
Loved it when it was the Black Forest but I am very sure it is even BETTER now! The Owner was such a nice man and the service was top notch!
Do yourself a favour if you like German food and stop by Das Schnitzelhaus. You will not be disappointed. 👊

Schnitzel was dry and oversalted. Potatoes were just strange and also oversalted. Staff seem to spend more time talking to each other than they did to the customers. Parking is a challenge. $50 for a small schnitzel and a large one with just water and no dessert.

We really enjoyed the Sunday Special for 4 - four breaded Schnitzel, roasted potatoes, spezel, mixed veggies and salad, Bavarian onion soup and rye bread and Beer. It’s Octoberfest!! We will definitely be back! The new owners kept a lot of the original menu from iconic BlackForest Restaurant. This is part of Hamilton’s history and we’re so happy it’s back! Only regret is the frothy ice tea is no longer on menu. Next time we’ll try to save room for the dessert.
I had to stand in the doorway area and wait for the rest of my party to arrive before I was allowed to take a seat. That was uncomfortable . Once seated , the food and service was great !

First time there was a great experience. The decor is supper old stereotypical German pub feeling. Not sure if that's how to best describe it but it was pretty cool and felt comfortable.
Servers were very polite and attentive.
Portions were large for the price. Food was good. The platter for 2 was great value. And would Definitely fill 2 people with left overs.
Also they had a German beer called Veltins on tap that iv only ever had while in Germany.
Will Definitely be back.

I'm happy that this place reopened because I was sad when the Black Forest Inn was closed.
The decor still look similar, the waitresses still wear the traditional dirndl, which is a good thing as it differentiates from other restaurants, and the menu is still similar.
Main entrée comes with bread and butter (2 slices of bread for one person) and a meatball soup or salad as an appetizer.
The reasons for a 4 stars instead of 5 stars is mainly because the customer service and sauerkraut weren't as good as back then. Back then, it used to feel warm, welcoming, and the waitresses were very sociable and friendly (I used to have good conversations with the waitresses and they're happy to talk). On my latest visit, even though the waitress was nice enough, it feels more dismissive as they seem more focused on chatting among themselves than checking on customers, making sure customers are happy and hardly smile (they looked stressed out). When I got the entrée (the black forest plate), the waitress was very dry when she asked if I need anything, almost like she hates her job, and the main waitress didn't ask how my meal was, which is standard practice for the waiting staff. The sauerkraut tasted very sour (heavy in vinegar), but aside from that, the portions and prices are still good. I skipped dessert as I didn't feel like it after what happened (lackluster customer service was a turn off).
I would still like to return, but the experience was definitely not as good as back then.
There is paid parking and street parking, in case anyone drive there.

We enjoyed the food for the most part. Way too much sauce on the paprika schnitzel, causing the breading to be mushy. My husband's goulash was tasty, but scarce with no vegetables in it. The platter our other family got was huge with a nice variety.
The decor hasn't changed in well over 40 years if my memory is correct. The carpet is disgusting, time to update the decor and washrooms. Our tablecloth was dirty, or stained.

Food was fantastic. The atmosphere is exactly what you want when you want good food -classic charm. Staff were very good; friendly, kind, prompt, funny. It was obvious the food was made to order and NOT kept warm, waiting. Tasted like my granny’s sauerkraut! And the chocolate fudge cake was a perfect ending.

I loved the old school Black Forest inn. This place, has not skipped a beat. The service was absolutely spectacular. The food and portion sizes were great, and definitely not overpriced. And honestly, just a wonderful spot. Go check it out sometime, I can almost promise you won't be disappointed. 🙂 The only reason I say almost, some of you are weird. LOL
