First time going there under the new ownership. Read online reviews that stated I can expect the same great food like it was under the previous owner. Slightly disappointed. Everything just tastes a little bit different. Vienna Schnitzel portion size was smaller & a little bit overdone. The potatoes undercooked on the inside, but over done on the outside - slightly burnt. I was happy to see they brought back the rye bread in the basket but sad to see I had to pay for my side salad. Choice was always soup or salad, now it’s just soup & pay extra for salad. Our server (Sam) was amazing. I will go back one more time & try again - maybe they were having an ‘off’ night. Everyone deserves a second chance.

The food was not to make expectations. It was very dry. No flavour I tried the carrot cake and it was very stale defrosting was very dry The sausages needed more time to cook. The manager was just completely too much. It felt like he was harassing us the moment we walked in the door he was very nosey. Completely fair though the staff was amazing. They recommended so many options trying their best pushing through the very busy service. I watched today they kept smiling through everything giving 100% all the way. Only reason why I left a tip.

Awful experience. I was singled out in a way that had clear racial undertones. When our group arrived, the front-of-house manager (or possibly the owner) walked straight up to me, got very close to my face, and aggressively asked, “Can I help you?” I was the only person he confronted like that. He didn’t ask anyone else in our group.
What made it worse was seeing how he spoke to his staff. He was really rude and I felt bad for them.
It’s frustrating because we had just been here before and the food was delicious, and our server on that visit was great.

So it might be funny that I gave the food, service and atmospher high numbers. But had my overall review be so low.
First of all I want to say that the food was great? Our server? She was also fantastic. The atmosphere was exactly what I would expect. I thought they changed the decore since changing from the Black Forest Inn. But this was my first time in there since after the pandemic. I left Hamilton mid pandemic, so this was my first time back.
Everything was great. Except the front of house manager. While he always has a smile on his face, he was still incredibly rude to my party.
While I can understand why it might be irritating that a party waits on someone who was late, to order. We still ordered multiple drinks while we waited. And even when he explained to use that if she didn't show up soon (she was having severe mobility issues, which of course not the restraints fault. And explained he might have to move us to a booth. Because he had a party of 6 coming in at 4:30 and would need our table.
Even then we took that in stride. Fine That's okay, we understand, everyone one of us at that table have worked in food service.
But we ordered not long after that, and we left at about 4:40
At which point there were multiplelo table tops in the restaurant that could service a party of 6, and no one waiting for a table of 6.
I can understand wanting to flip tables to get more service. But at no point during our service, was the restaurant at capacity. And honestly we just felt like he was lying to get rid of us.
I know we still left a good tip to put wonderful sever. The food was great, she served it with a smile and made us laugh. She was a pleasure.
But if this is the level of service that the front of house manager gives? I won't be going back if it's my choice. And from what I've heard from some Hamiltonian friends I've talked to, this type of service from the front of house manager has been on the increase.
It's such an unfortunate situation. Because the rest of the staff and the product is amazing.

This place was good many years ago. Great to be honest. This last visit 10 of us had. A bad experience. They said the pop machine was down, they had to charge extra for salad but that was temporary, there were some other food items they also didn't have. When we got the food it was all so bland, dry, and the soup was like dirty water. I cam honestly say one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had including my family I was with. Infact my son ordered the sliders. They were black and dry. Not sure why manager has let this place go down hill so fast.

This restaurant is just steps away from the theatre, so great for grabbing a bite after a matinee, or before an evening show. The food is classic schnitzel and incredible sides, and service was great, (particularly Emma). The flavours were great, and options as well. The highlight is for sure the main course choices, in particular the platter for 2, which gives a large sampling of many different menu items, and a very reasonable amount. There are also simple yet tasty dessert options. The interior remains the classic and simple decor, which is welcoming and homey, but could likely be improved by the carpet being replaced by vinyl or other flooring. All in all a fantastic location, particularly if downtown catching a live theatre show, and very enjoyable meal.
