Halibut House Fish & Chips

Very surprised that my halibut looked like pre-frozen Captain Highliner. I’m not sure the fries are even fresh cut anymore. $25 is a lot for something that appears to be pre-battered pre-frozen.

This is what $23 dollars gets you. Note the fork in the picture so you can see how little food I got. I'm not going here again. No thanks.

When we want fish and chips this was our go to place to order from. However our order last night was not good at all. We ordered 2 haddock and chip dinners and a side order of clam strips. The clam strips were tasty but the portion size seems to have shrunk and for the price I expected more. The haddock was paper thin and mostly batter. The chips were very undercooked as well. Needless to say we were extremely disappointed. Not too sure we will risk ordering again.

I went there on Sunday with a few friends, It was always a great place for fish & Chips!
I say that because I ordered Halibut fish and chips as always and things went wrong. the Calamari is great as always, but the halibut was changed, it looked like it got cut in half and reattached and no longer square. I ask the server why this is and he told me that the owners changed suppliers and now they get this thin crap falling apart! I continued to ask about my chips, they came very brown almost burnt dark brown, he stated they also changed suppliers for that as well and they need to cook longer to try to get them to be crispy, but they aren't even close to crisp, just burnt???

Why do restaurants have something good and change to try to save a few dollars only to have people leave and not come back. Could this be why so many are failing in business!

Thank you for the quick reply. I was just as shock after hearing this from the server. I was told the wrong info from the server then we will drop by again to try. Maybe the server is very new and not experience to know what to say.

We will come by again in a couple of weeks, do to we are out of Country

Went back for another try and it was much better
Maybe it was a different cook and the waiter was new:) I have adjusted my rating based on returning back

I went back and it seems to be back the way it was, maybe the new server did not know what he was being asked, langrage problem or bad night for cook, but I will change my rating from my last experience.

We got “calamari “ that was actually cuttle fish my husband got a 2 piece halibut and fry’s and coleslaw I got a one piece cod fry’s and coleslaw all the fish was tinny no flavour fry’s needed salt the coleslaw hade zero flavour and we got one can of pop or bill was 80$!!! Never again not worth the money at all

Everytime i go there, i always receive great service and no judgemental statements. Great workers! beautiful great atmosphere and the environment is preciously amazingly tidy and clean! hope all the best towards this company! all the best!

I ate here for years , then they served me a piece of halibut that was like shoe leather
I requested new piece of fish after twenty minutes and cold fries they replaced fish
When I got my bill they charged me $5.00 extra for piece of fish .
I paid but also told server I will not be back to this establishment!!!

the pricing is ridiculous 15.95 for one piece of battered fish and it was mainly batter asked for sweet potatoes fries got regular fries. coffee was awful so strong. my hubbie had 22.00 meal with a grilled fish no bigger than 3×3 and a garden salad mainly Lettuce one piece of tomatoes and 3 pieces of red onion. never going back!!!!

at the markham and kingston road location in Scarborough, The male server was very rude with my family on family day from not allowing us to chose the table we preferred although the restaurant was empty, to rushing us to order, to acting surprised when i asked the dishwasher to get his attention to clarify my order which was placed at the table when i was in the washroom. The fries were very hard and not tasty. For 21$ a meal this is not the service/customer treatment, or quality of food one would hope for or expect. It seemed he was giving an ungrateful attitude for our business. He even said "dont come back if this is how you behave" when i called him out on rushing us to pay, when i let him know i will pay now but not be rushing myself to finish my meal at any point soon. I tipped very miminal, because it actually felt like he didnt deserve a tip at all for his unaccomadating , impatient and impolite attitude..Good luck. I really hope this location does something about the poor customer service skills of this man, because this isnt a new issue. He was rude and unaccomadating last time to even a few years ago, this restaurant wont be able to stay in business very long if they treat all customers in such an ungrateful manner.

Absolutely garbage! Found hair in our food. Disgusting! Ever hear of a hair net?

Been here so many times and the food is always fresh, warm and freakin delicious!
And the servers are very helpful and kind. Keep up the great work and kudos to the chef! Great team.
