First time going to Mr.gao and I’ll never ever go back. The pictures and other reviews made the food seem fantastic but it was anything but. We ordered the house special fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, beef fried rice noodles, Shanghai fried noodle, veggie spring rolls, and the stir fried beef with onion.
The house special fried rice was terrible, it was as white as steamed rice with no taste of soy sauce and it was so spicy that I couldn’t finish it.
The sweet and sour chicken wasn’t even cooked in the sauce and the sauce was so thin it tasted like nothing.
The beef fried rice noodles wasn’t terrible but needed more sauce and to be cooked in the wok much longer.
The Shanghai fried noodle was decent tasting but very oily.
Veggie spring rolls were straight from a packet from longos or fortinos and I wouldn’t order them again.
I enjoyed the beef in onion flavor but the beef hadn’t been cooked long enough and was chewy.
I had really high hopes for Mr gao after seeing the reviews and website but I will never ever order again.

This place came highly recommended and indeed, most of the food was good but some complaints. House special fried rice was actually quite dry and the chicken in it had a strange texture and taste... could have used more salt mostly. The wok dry spicy chicken is absolutely NOT as pictured on their website. I wish I'd saved a photo because what we got was dry, chalky looking bits of chicken meat, sure with a good level of spice but mostly bone. It was like they use strange cuts of the chicken to prepare the dish but it looks more rich and dark in colour on their website, not as powdery. The cumin lamb was good, as was the beef with onion. My only other complaint would be that when we called in the order, we were told it would be ready in 20 minutes. I'm not a stickler for this and can usually accept if it takes another 5 or 10 minutes... but honestly, when I got there to pick it up, both the person at the front and another staff member looked really puzzled when I said which order I was picking me up. I then heard a ton of frying going on not long after, and ended up waiting a full half hour MORE than what they told me! I was wondering if maybe they had not taken the order down properly and were preparing the rest of my dishes on the spot. So that was not cool. Lastly, their overview states there is parking on site but it's not QUITE true as the parking lot belongs to the Boston Pizza right next door. You still have to walk all the way around to get to their restaurant and that was unexpected and unpleasant especially in the rain. Would have had someone drop me right at the front if I'd known this was the case.

This place is the best Chinese food establishment I’ve ever been to. The service is awesome and their pork belly on rice and calamari is to die for! Me and my dad visit Mr GAO’s every month and it is truly a remarkable restaurant! You need to dine in when it’s hot and off the stove!❤️

Great portions and very much affordable! Quick service, and plenty of seats inside. The hot and sour soup is unbelievably massive for the price, so worth it! Scallion pancake is a bit greasy, but it had all the right flavours nonetheless!

wonderful food, we ordered 4 dishes today. all of them are very good. the size is big too. out of 4, 鱼香肉丝 is the best of all. it has a special smell, also tastes very very good. Regarding service, you can just scan a bar code and order. easy process. Excellent. highly recommend this place.

so terrible! It’s really not delicious, lightning protection, chicken stewed in mushroom soup is watery, is this how this dish is made? It was crazy and several pieces of chicken were burnt. The price is completely different from the menu price seen on the map. It is actually much more expensive! There is no tipping option, just charge it directly, I am speechless?
