Wonderfully cozy yet a light and airy atmosphere that is unique in a great way. I've been here a few times and the food is delicious. I tend to gravitate toward the roasted vegetables sandwich. For some reason it tastes better when it's eaten at Synonym rather than to go. But worry not because there's plenty of seating and the decor (especially of the barista counter) is perfection. Well worth a visit, you'll be glad you did!

went there yesterday. got 2 drip coffees to go. (more than $10.) barely lukewarm. I know that I don't fit their usual preferred demographic... but I shouldn't be punished for that.

A lovely, not-so-little coffee shop. It looks small at first, but it keeps going with tables almost all through to the back. Lovely space!
We were greeted immediately upon entry and made fresh espresso drinks that were perfect. We ordered breakfast (shakshuka and an herb omelette) and some pastries for the road. We couldn’t even finish our main meal - the portions were very generous.
Overall, lovely spot. Will definitely return.

Enjoyed the jazz nights, and the books were very informative and entertaining to read. Good spot for a chill hangout or a relaxed date!!
Bit of a walk for me but I didn’t mind it as the weather was nice. I had heard good things about Synonym and decided to grab an Americano from there as I want to find the best one in the downtown core. The coffee was amazing, very strong and flavourful, definitely the best one I have had in Hamilton thus far

I was prepared to write a stellar review because the service for the most part was exceptionally friendly, the shakshuka and matcha latte were delightful, and the ambiance was ideal for working. I initially sat at a small table but later, after obtaining permission from a staff member—even though I was just one person—I moved to a larger table as it had a plug for my laptop. Throughout my time there, several people asked to share my table, and I welcomed each of them as I had no issue sharing.
However, later on, either the owner or a manager approached me and remarked that his staff had been ‘nice enough to not say anything to me’ but that, due to the café’s busyness, I needed to relocate to a smaller table. I would have been happy to do so, as my intention was not to monopolize the space, but as I attempted to explain that I had received permission and that this was not intentional, he did not have the decency or respect to listen and walked away mid-sentence. As I walked out, I noticed several smaller unoccupied tables so I’m not sure where the urgency was either. I had genuinely positive things to say, and the rest of the staff was wonderful, but unfortunately, I won’t be returning.
