Lots of college students and music was decent a mix of 2010-2015 dance pop but nothing that stood out and it started getting trashy toward midnight really trashy pop techno music. while I was there a group of guys ran up to me and yelled at me cause they wanted the table I was sitting at security was pretty pathetic didn't do anything about it, not even a free drink or sorry for your trouble or whatever... Conversations where brief but okay though cause everyone seemed talkative and well dressed... even the girls.

This place is AWFUL as I was harassed and assaulted by a staff member. Last night a friend of mine was throwing up in the bathroom 10 minutes before close time. The staff (who was also the female bouncer) came into the washroom and asked us to leave. I told her that we would be on our way out, but my friend needed one more minute. I was very respectful to her. She told me to leave again. I repeated in a stern voice that my friend was extremely ill and needed an extra minute to get up. She then proceeded to SLAP me. She wouldn’t get her hands off me, and I am covered in bruises and scratch marks. When we brought our concerns to the staff and security, they did not do anything and told us to leave. We will be pressing charges. Never coming back, do not recommend going to this twisted sick place.

My friends and I have never experienced something like this in our whole lives. My one friend wasn’t feeling very well in the bathroom 10 minutes before closing. My other friend had explained the situation to an employee who entered asking for a couple extra minutes to ensure our friend was ok to leave the bathroom. The employee said she wanted us to get out and got very angry when we tried to repeat our friend wasn’t feeling good. She slapped my friend and then threw my phone down the stairs. Security did nothing of course I’m baffled that an employee would think that’s a valid response to someone asking for a couple minutes in the bathroom BEFORE closing. This is the only poor experience I’ve ever had here, it’s sad to see a few employees change my whole view on this establishment.

Had a wonderful experience here. I came out later at night for a little patio date with myself and had some nachos and pirogies and they were awesome. Service was great from who I think his name was Lucas?! Could be wrong but this fella has been here 10 years I know that much and it showed. Great work!! Thanks for the great service.. I Will be back for sure!

Lemonade tasted of chlorine, probably because of faulty filters. Despite the cesar salad being very good, the added grilled chicken was hard, dry and thin as a plate. Upon my complaint they promptly did not charge me for the chicken add on.

My first visit to Gown and Gavel this summer was extremely disappointing due to an unacceptable encounter in the bathroom. While my friend and I were in a stall using the restroom, a staff member banged on the door with such force that it flew open—while we were still in the middle of using it. Just seconds after we exited, she did the exact same thing to another friend who was alone in a stall.
As we were leaving the bathroom and sharing the experience with our other friends, the same staff member approached us again, yelling at us and threatening to have us kicked out. All of this, simply for using the bathroom?
We chose not to escalate the situation by not saying anything although this behaviour was completely disrespectful . I’ve never had a worse experience in a bar restroom. If someone chooses to work in this environment , basic respect and communication skills should be expected and this lady had neither.

Extremely unprofessional experience. My friend and I arrived at 8:30 PM and stood outside in 30-degree heat for nearly two hours. The line was not a line at all—it was a poorly managed clump of people with constant cutting, no direction from staff, and no organization.
While we were waiting, three restaurants down from the venue, on the public sidewalk, a staff member dressed in black and vaping approached us and demanded to take away the plastic bottle of water and celsius energy drink we had just purchased from the mini mart across the street. When I asked this lady why, she said, “Because you’re waiting in line to get in and you could potentially be consuming alcohol.”
I understand when you are entering or before getting a bag check, this makes sense as to not bring outside liquids in. But we were not even close to their security guard yet.
This interaction was deeply disrespectful—and frankly questionable in terms of legality, given that I was drinking water off their property. To have my drink confiscated on a public street, while I was trying to stay hydrated in extreme heat, felt unacceptable.
By 10 PM, after all this waiting, we were told we would not be admitted at all!!!!! Nearly two hours wasted, treated poorly, and left without entry. Or water.
This venue on a Saturday is disorganized, disrespectful, and unprofessional. I will not be returning, and I strongly advise others to reconsider before wasting their time here.
Good food. Nice happy hour. Looking forward to next visit. Dog friendly.

Always great service at the Gown and Gavel. Stopped in to cool off yesterday. I haven't eaten there a lot but when I have the food has been excellent. They have a great outdoor patio. A lot of bars have closed in Hess Village since Covid but this is one of the stalwarts.

What a fantastic evening! Everything was absolutely wonderful! Nachos, wings and coconut beer shrimp were delicious and huge portion sizes too. Patio was full and is still one of the best patios in the city. Out server Nikki was very attentive and sweet. Also met the owners, Dianna nd Jerome and chef Feed who very welcoming and kind as well. Definately is going ro be a regular spot to dine.
