Toma La - The Portuguese Pit Stop

Amazing food experience, have been coming here for 2 weeks straight since i found the spot, the Steaks are cooked actually medium rare and chicken is perfectly cooked to juiciness and love the Piri piri sauce

We came in with a large group of people and they gave all of us time to browse the menu and were super helpful when ordering as some people had never eaten Portuguese cuisine before. Some group member also had allergies and they were very accommodating. Food was incredibly flavourful, super fresh and prepared quickly. Would 100% come here again

Reducing my rating from 5 stars, to 3.

It's been such a hit and miss lately. They used to serve bread and butter when you dined in, not anymore. In a matter of a few weekends.

Last time they served us Boiling hot and fridge cold beans in the same bowl! Made me realize they probably microwave it as the temp was so uneven.

The waitress didn't even ask whether we wanted piri piri on our chicken or not, they just made it without. (That sorta matched her I don't even wanna be here face). But, it took so long for the food to come out, I wouldn't have been able to wait for them to fix it (which she didn't offer to anyways).

Anyways, that was the last time for a reason unfortunately.

Terrible experience when ordering from this restaurant. I ordered through Skip the Dishes who have always been good, up to this point. I received less than half of what I ordered for my son’s birthday. I called to complain but I was told it was my fault, not theirs.

No refund, terrible customer service. I was told to drive back to the restaurant and get what they missed at my cost.

Thank you for making what should have been a nice dinner not so nice.

Try Nando’s instead, at least they treat their customers better. Also, skip Skip the Dishes, they were no help either.

Absolutely the worst chicken I’ve ever had. I’ve had better chicken at. A Hospital and coffee truck. I can’t see this place still being open for business in another year. There’s no way im the only one who feels their chicken is God awful . I feel bad for the Portuguese community. Because who tries Portuguese chicken for the first time from Toma La will never have Portuguese chicken again. Rice also had something funky going on in it. Soggy fries, only 6 sad

This is my first one star review, I feel bad doing it…but I must be honest. We planned a nice dinner with our sons, and decided on Toma La. The Rymal road restaurant is closer, but I saw the the Upper James location had better ratings, so I ordered from there through Skip the Dishes. Oops.

I ordered 2 separate chicken dinners, with 2 sides each, and a 6 pack of natas. I got a phone call saying they didn’t have natas or French fries and to call and cancel.

I had my two sons try to help me cancel the order, but before we were could figure it out, the food (or half of it arrived). One chicken, 3 sides, no French fries, no second chicken, no natas.

Instead of enjoying our family dinner, I found myself calling Toma La and talking to a young girl, Lovua (sic) telling me it was my fault and I made a mistake and should’ve cancelled my order. I asked to speak to someone who could help me out, but she said the answer would be the same.

The only retribution offered was to come in and get a free chicken…the cost of gas to get there. I asked about my dessert and loss of money, but I was informed it was a skip the dishes problem and to call them and figure it out.

Be careful where, and how you order.

I had a lovely lunch here today. The service was excellent and the chef who made this dish clearly loves what he does.

Used to love this place seems to have declined, chicken has been dry passed 3 times, the shrimp appetizer i tried for the first time and tasted and smelled horrid and only had 9 shrimps. Used to be one of my go to family night dinners such a shame.

Wow over 70% of the steak in the sandwich was inedible silver skin and fat and the chicken in the sandwich was dry as sand and not much won't go back and do not recommend

This place used to be so good. Last 3 times so disappointed. Once chicken so salty couldn’t eat it. 2nd time rice tasted weird and potatoes dry. Last night chicken so dry it was inedible and the potatoes had hardly any sauce and were half cooked. Had to put them in the oven for 20 minutes. Most of it went in the garbage and my son and girlfriend went back out to McDonalds. Time to give up ordering from there. The size of the chicken is pretty sad compared to Swiss Chalet but liked the flavour.

We were here on Thursday for dinner around 7:30 pm. They have awesome food and one of the best roasted grilled chicken in town but their service sucks. The girl who was serving us had no clue of anything. She was just there as a pretty doll. With good food customer service is important as well. Every time we asked her a question she will have to go to someone to ask for an answer and she forgot to add our item to the order as well. Will go there again to eat their whole chicken.
