Harbin Chinese Restaurant 哈尔滨老道外砂锅居

Authentic Chinese food. Probably the best in Ottawa (certainly west end at least). Decent prices.

They are knowledgeable about allergens on their food. Staff is kind. Lots of dairy free and egg free options. Beware some dishes contain nuts. Large portions.

I recommend:
- B1 lamb with cumin ❤️. Tender lamb.
- Sliced fish with sauerkraut, contains glass and other noodles (H8?)
- P1 shredded pork with fish flavoured sauce (black vinegar flavour, not fishy)
- L7 beef and beef tripe in chili (fu qi fei pian). Not incredibly spicy.
- Shanghai sliced fish for delicate flavours

The green beans were not my favourite but still good.

Restaurant has a moldy smell, floor is really sticky. Food was mediocre. The type of restaurant you will try once and won’t go back.

I have an awful food allergy, but Harbin's incredibly knowledgeable chef effortlessly helped me zero-in on what have become my favourite (allergy-safe) meals out over the last 5+ years. Takeaway has always been perfect and staff has never fails to put care into ensuring satisfaction. There's especially no better environment for assembling a group friends over a spread of incomparable, one-of-a-kind dishes. Cannot recommend enough!

My husband and 2 kids went there for lunch today.

As a Chinese person this is very authentic cuisine. The menu is very straight forward and the photos are great. Anyone looking to try it for the first time will have an easy time ordering.

My kids loved the garlic green beans and clay pot seafood and tofu. My husband was a big fan of the stirfried beef and rice noodle. I liked grandmas braised pork belly and egg dish.

The portions are NOT small. The prices are very fair for the quality of food you’re getting. We ordered rice, a noodle dish and 4 other dishes. We have enough left overs for lunch tomorrow.

Thanks for a great meal! We will be back.

Food tastes ok, but portions are small, and pricy. Also got charged quite high for tea.
