This is about my fourth visit to Atomica and it is their most impressive showing yet. The restaurant is maturing with a lot of interesting dishes each with unique flavour combinations. The Brie appetizer for instance, included a multi-berry jam with mulled reduced fruits and a nice cardamom twist along with pickled onions, roasted garlic and an olive chutney (?). The pizzas are all well thought out and there are a lot of different options. I guess I will need to return soon!

The Lake Effect
A friend said he wanted to go to Atomica. He hadn't been in a number of years and so we went. When we walked in. There was no nobody there at the door and there's no sign saying 'please wait to be seated', so we proceeded to go find a table at the back and my friend walked by (who I guess someone who is supposed to be the hostess standing mid-restaurant and not coming to the door when we walked in to greet us) So I followed my friend sat down, and then I saw a booth open that we'd rather sit at so we walked over to the booth. On the way there, I asked the hostess if it's okay if we sat at the booth. She says, 'Well, just to let you know, your friend walked in and walked right by me didn't say a word and just found a seat for himself. So I apologized and said sorry, I didn't see a sign as we walked in, or there is no one waiting at the door or coming to us, as we walked in. Her response was, 'Just make sure you talk to someone when you walk in next time' in a rather annoyed tone. Later I asked my friend as I was leaving, when the hostess spoke with me, she said that you walked right by her and didn't saying a word and just found a seat by yourself, But my friend said that he did say something to her as after he passed her asking, if it's okay if we sit back here and she said, ok. So she lied?! We've never been there before. We never knew that there was a hostess or that you had to wait to be seated. To be given a warning at the beginning of our experience, it was just kind of strangely aggressive, like I was dealing with a cop. The service was good, the food was good. I just don't know why that person was the hostess, she shouldn't be hosting. Consequently either of us won't be back. As the old saying goes, 'you never get a second chance to make a first impression' ... too bad.

The food was pretty good, but it was VERY PRICEY for the portion size!!!
After being turned down from other places in Kingston because of overbooking during convocation week, we were left without options for dinner and ended up here. Even though service was ok, friendly girl had us seated at the table (very narrow space and the second person could barely squeeze into their seat) and food came relatively fast, the quality of the food was terrible, the vegetable soup looked like a can of veggies were dumped in the plate and was flavorless,, the pizza was thick, too much cheese and bad mix of too many ingredients. Will never go here again, definitely not recommended as nothing on their menu is really ‘Italian’ and everything we tasted was sub par.

My reserved table was given away but that’s not a big deal. Host was pleasant, no shade towards the staff. Just the food was patient inadequate - and of course, gave me food poisoning.
