When I got my trout meal the squash galettes were overcooked and burnt on the outside and undercooked on the inside. She got new ones from the kitchen, but they were the same.
Maybe it was on off night, but after reading good reviews, we selected this restaurant to celebrate the end of a family holiday. Overall, I left feeling disappointed and still a little hungry.
I ate the trout because I was hungry and traveling with a toddler with an early bedtime, or else I would have sent the whole meal back, as it was also dry.
As someone who works in the restaraunt industry, I would have taken the whole meal off the bill, or offered a drink or dessert on the house.
I left feeling overall disappointment with the food.

I rarely , and I mean RARELY post reviews … but for this restaurant , I will. It was exceptional!! The food was absolutely outstanding ! The presentation , the quality and taste ON TOP of everything being sourced as close to home as possible, makes this place 1000/10. If it’s not a farm to table restaurant , I don’t know what is ! Service , equally on par . We had such a wonderful , flawless experience and it’s now my favourite restaurant , hands down Thank you for a perfect evening ! I can’t wait to come back

We decided to try this restaurant on a whim (walking by, no reservation). Delicious meal. Shared a plate of calamari as an appetizer. For the main, I had the North African Tagine and added shrimp (chicken and beef are available as add-one too), and my dining partner had the pan-fried trout. Both were generous portions. The desserts were very good. The service was very attentive and I enjoyed the restaurant. Highly recommend.
We visited Black Dog on July 22nd to celebrate our wedding anniversary, a place we have always enjoyed. Unfortunately, this visit did not meet our expectations.
We ordered 36 oysters with the caviar add-on, but nearly every oyster contained many small chunks of shell. It seemed they were shucked incorrectly, with pieces missing from the sides rather than being opened cleanly from the hinge. This made eating them unpleasant, especially with the caviar, which was largely wasted as we had to pick out shell fragments from our mouths. Even worse, one of the oysters served to my husband was rotten, which completely ruined the experience.
We also ordered the calamari, which was well-prepared, and the beef tartare, which arrived at room temperature. To make matters worse, one of the crostini had a hair baked into it, which was especially off-putting.
The drinks were good, and our server did remove two of them from the bill in response to the issues we experienced. Still, the overall visit was disappointing, particularly since it was meant to be a special occasion. We hope this was just an off night for Black Dog, but it has made us reconsider returning.

Amazing restaurant and we had an amazing time eating out back on the patio. I went with my family (5 of us) and we all remarked how delicious the food was. I really should be giving it 5's across the board (and trust me, I'll be back many times to eat here when I'm in Kingston). The reason for the almost perfect score was that the sirloin cut I had was just too fatty (Yes, I'm aware that's the way the cut is) and the asparagus was a tad soft for my liking, but that's it. Yes, I'm being very picky, and as mentioned, loved this place and the food. The table enjoyed a beautiful bottle of wine, humous and pita appetizer, calamari as well as a few fish and chip mains and a steak frites also. I must stress, everyone agreed how tasty the food was and the server was amazing (Hunter I believe?).

We went as a group of 6 on Saturday evening while visiting from Ottawa. The food was exciting and delicious with a lot of excellent menu options. Nice selection of wines and cocktails. We sat with a view of the kitchen which was a lot of fun to see them prepare the dishes. Our server Peyton was the best I’ve ever experienced anywhere. She’s smart, funny, knowledgeable, attentive, and 100% genuine - a true professional.. We’ll be back and highly recommend to others.
