Where to start? The place was dead empty on Super Bowl Sunday. Our waitress took our drink order, and we told her we’d hold off on food for a bit. She came back once and then completely disappeared. After about 45 minutes of waiting, I had to go to the bar myself for refills, where the bartender seemed annoyed—almost as if serving drinks in an empty restaurant was an inconvenience.

Meanwhile, they had two TVs playing the Super Bowl, but they weren’t in sync, creating an echo that made it awkward to watch. With no urgency, they finally turned off the sound on the smaller TV—only for the sound on the main screen to crash, producing an awful noise. Again, no urgency to fix it. It took complaints before they attempted to solve it and were unable to. Finally they switched the audio to the smaller TV.

By that point, we were over it and decided to order food to go. We had to go find the waitress ourselves to do that. And here’s where it got TRULY impressive: in an NEARLY empty restaurant, they still managed to completely screw up our order. At that point, we were home and didn’t feel like driving back.

Honestly, Whale and Ale, do yourself a favour next year if you’re not interested in providing a good experience —just stay closed!

I ordered a Cobb Salad with grilled chicken tonight via delivery. It arrived without the blue cheese dressing . When a customer spends $26.50 on a salad it would be nice to give them the salad dressing they paid for! Most of the salad was greens anyways w/ one sliced boiled egg on it.

Was looking for fish and chips today….on a Monday. Many of the other area shops were closed so we selected the Whale and Ale. Great choice…$18 for one piece including fries and coleslaw. Even better all Mondays are 2 for 1 special. Nice crispy hand dipped crust on the haddock. Lots of tartar sauce included. Didn’t catch the waitress’s name but she has worked there 20 years! Great service.

We have been here a few times and always had great food and service. Good service again but the restaurant seems a little short handed, which seems to be like that for a lot of places lately. We had fish and chips and this time around the fish was doughy and not really crispy. We will try again in the future, but disappointed this time around.
