Beware - This is not Happy Kitchen Chinese food. This is Hakka Momos Chinese/Indian/Nepalese food. We saw the good reviews for Happy Kitchen, some as recent as two weeks ago, and we were so looking forward to some Chinese food because we haven't had it in a long time. The Happy Kitchen website had an online menu but said they weren't taking online orders currently and provided a phone number to call instead. I placed an order on the phone from the Happy Kitchen online menu but when we went to pick it up my husband was driving all over cuz he couldn't find a sign for happy kitchen. He looked up the address and realized the sign now says Hakka Momo's.
We were pretty hungry so we took the food because the sign did say Chinese food. But let me tell you this is not regular North American style Chinese food. It might be what Chinese food is like in India or Nepal, but it was not at all what we were expecting or what we saw on the website we ordered from.
We started with a chicken spring roll, which looked normal but the inside was like the inside of a pakora or a samosa. I'm not going to say it wasn't tasty, but we weren't trying to order Indian food. It got worse from there. We ordered chicken chop suey. Anywhere I've gone at a Chinese restaurant, chop suey is bean sprouts in a light cornstarchy sauce with some garlic flavor. This chop suey was a just chopped cabbage with a bit of chicken in it drowning in glowing red sweet and sour sauce! With a fried egg on top! WTH? We'd ordered sweet and sour shrimp and expected breaded shrimp with the sweet red sauce on the side. We got sauteed shrimp with the tail and most of the shell on, swimming with pineapple in the sticky red sauce. Was I supposed to peel the shell and tail off while it was smothered in the gooey sticky sauce? i usually have a tiny bit of the red sauce on the side because it's so sweet, but the entire container was filled with it. The beef and broccoli was not stir fried, it was stewed, like a curry dish, except no flavour. Both the meat and broccoli were soft as mush in the blandest beef stew gravy. No flavour of garlic or ginger or even a seasoning like salt or soy sauce. Ordered steamed rice which was basmati, again very Indian, not like Chinese fluffy jasmine rice. Chow mein was the most passable, but again very bland. Just tasted like noodles in oil and soy sauce. Only positive is that the portions were very big, but for us, that meant it was more to throw out. I didn't even finish half my plate of food. Mostly just ate the noodles.
I like Indian food but we ordered from the phone number and menu on the Happy Kitchen website so we feel very mislead to what we were paying for. If I knew it was an Indian restaurant I would've ordered some proper Indian dishes with flavour. This food order was misrepresented by using the former business' website and phone number. I've never given such a bad review before but we felt mislead so I wanted to warn anyone ordering from the Happy Kitchen website.
Photo is of the "chop suey".

Great Canadian Chinese food restaurant. Owner was very nice. Food was cooked fresh, fresh oil, fresh veggies. Probably one of the better if not the best Canadian Chinese food establishments we've been to.
We got the deluxe order for 2 with wonton soup. The wonton soup was ok, very fresh. The chicken balls and spring rolls were absolutely delicious. The friend rice was perfect, not overly salty as i find this dish can be but seasoned just enough. The fried shrimp was also delicious, fresh oil just makes a huge difference in a lot of the fried dishes. The beef and broccoli was excellent with the fried rice, the beef was so tender.
Whenever we're in the mood for chinese food again, we will for sure be coming back!

Wow! Just incredible. We found this restaurant on Maps because of the high rating, and were thoroughly impressed. This was without a doubt the best Chinese food we’ve had in a very long while. The service was great, with exceptionally affordable pricing given how much food you get. The General Tao chicken was the best I’ve ever had. We sampled quite a few dishes and brought a lot home as we couldn’t finish it all.
There’s about 6 tables with 4 seats and a larger table for about 6-8 with a rotating serving plate/lazy Suzan for groups looking to share many plates. We will definitely be coming back as it’s well worth the drive from St Thomas and beyond!
