Was refused service because my meal was under $15 and I wanted to use credit/debit. The employee told me cash only. Its 2026 and I cant believe this establishment is willing to loose paying customers because they dont have the business sense to pay for a merchant account fee. Places like this close, change owners and struggle and these are the reasons why.

Closed before the time listed they always do this it’s so frustrating lol run your business properly
Not crowded at 2 p.m. Fish quality is good and not salty which is what we prefer (low sodium).

First time I eat here. I’ve been to other halibut house locations. Their packaging is awful. How are you supposed to eat a massive piece of fish out of a squared box?
The fries tasted like oil. Pure oil! It’s as if they don’t change their oil often! The meal was not appetizing at all!

I recently visited the restaurant in Markham, hoping to enjoy some fish and chips.
My bill, including a 15% tip, came to over $50. Unfortunately, the service I received was quite subpar.
The main dish, which consisted of fish and chips with vegetables, was rather greasy, and the portions were surprisingly small, especially considering the oily batter. The calamari, in particular, was quite underwhelming.
I had anticipated a more varied and flavorful experience from the platter I ordered, but it ultimately proved to be a significant disappointment.

Heads up for those with dietary restrictions: All breakfast items are prepared on the same surfaces as bacon and sausage (including pancakes and potatoes).
There are no accommodations or separate prep options available during breakfast hours.
Fish & chips weren’t available in the morning as the fryer isn’t running. They don't even have fruit.
Nothing against the staff - the server was upfront and honest - but if you avoid pork, this isn’t a good breakfast option.

Used to go here a lot when I lived in the area. It was amazing with big portions, enough to take home for a second meal. After moving back to Markham, we decided to try it again. The portions for absolutely everything have shrunk. We were unfortunately still hungry after spending $65+ for 2 people. Only good thing is the fish does taste good.

I’m writing to express how deeply disappointed and angered I am after our experience at your Highway 7 Markham location. Our group of 6 adults and 1 child came in to enjoy a meal, but what happened was completely unacceptable.
Your staff refused to let my 75-year-old mother-in-law order a kids’ meal. She is a small senior with legitimate health issues that affect her appetite — she physically cannot eat a full adult portion. Instead of showing understanding or basic respect, your team enforced this rule rigidly, with zero compassion, and honestly, it felt like discrimination against a senior.
To make this even worse, our bill was over $200. We were clearly there as paying customers supporting your business, yet my mother-in-law was still denied a simple accommodation that would’ve cost your restaurant nothing.
Watching a staff member deny a senior citizen in this way was shocking. The way she was spoken to was dismissive and made her feel embarrassed and singled out, as if she was doing something wrong simply because her age and health limit what she can eat.
This was supposed to be a family meal — instead, it turned into stress and frustration.
I expect a response explaining why this treatment occurred and what your team plans to do to ensure no other senior is treated this way again.
Always love coming for breakfast, they have the best diner food around. Their fish and chips is also top notch. Servers are the nicest people :3
