This is place is a take-out restaurant. The food is served in plastic take-out boxes. You give your order at the cashier McDonalds style. Nothing wrong with that, just dont come in for a sit down.
Firstly the vibes are abysmal. There are 12 giant tv screens and you are surrounded by them on each side. That wouldnt be so bad if they actually played something interesting on them. Instead its all the same news channel (CP24), all blaring the same awful reports of people being shot, stabbed, robbed, topped off with mugshots. Theres no escape. I felt like i was trapped in an Orwelian nightmare, i couldnt relax and have a conversation with my wife.
Secondly, the sushi chef was very rude and surly, but for some reason was extremely polite, kind, and attentive to other customers. The waitress there however was nice.
Now does this place make up for it with excellent food? No, not really. They dont even have handrolls! When they are clearly advertising them. The food is decent... But for the price you are paying, the slow/poor/rude service, it doesnt seem worth it.
It is the only place in the area that does japanese style dons, though.

My honest opinion of Ikon Sushi is that the sushi and Don are pretty good, but the atmosphere and service are awkward and strange. Husband and I came to dine in for lunch for the first time, and it was very quiet and empty. The server was friendly. Format for ordering in is like ordering out. We need to scan QR code to see the menu, then go to the counter to tell the server what you want. Seems disjointed. And I felt bad that the server had to keep explanaining the process to each guest that arrived. The music was too quiet, so it felt uncomfortable to have a conversation. There are probably 12 TVs on the wall, all broadcasting CP24 news, which is very distracting and depressing and creates an uncomfortable atmosphere. It's clear that this business puts more priority on takeout and delivery services, so the option to dine in feels like an afterthought.

This place is the bomb. Friendly service and food quality is great. Don’t waste your money on AYCE elsewhere.

Quality of the food is good, sashimi very fresh, but rice is a little hard. We dined in which was a simple set up & comfy. Would have been nice to have been served some hot tea.

Order & pay at cashier.

Food quality quit good.

Very interesting to use brown rice instead of traditional white rice.

But may want to clean the tables afterwards.

For one very reason I can only give this place one star: they use disposable everything!!! Not only it is not appealing to eat meal from plastic containers (I mean from the soup bowls to plates to cutlery and everything) it is also unhealthy. But more importantly this is horribly bad for the environment. I cant beleive people do this in 2024. And I cant comment about the taste and quality of food when it is served in shoe boxes and cheap plastic containers!

I really wanted to like Ikon based on their great service and presentation but it's not something I can recommend based on their quality and price.

We got the 42pc supreme sushi, sashimi, and roll tray/box which had an assortment of everything.

The good: Their rice is really good and probably my favourite thing about this place. Good seasoning but not overly sweet or vinegary with a good bite. I also really liked the truffle sauce on their special roll, and really enjoyed the goma-ae (spinach) in the rolls too. The presentation is wonderful too. See the wrapped box - but I can't help but to think it's more of a mirage.

The bad: the quality of the fish isn't good. They were discoloured and weren't fresh. Based on that alone, I can't recommend this place. And for that price, you can do a lot better in Markham for better and fresher sushi.

It is recommended to consume the hot soup in ceramic bowls. The quantity of rice in the special rolls should be reduced. The freshness and moisture of the lunch sushi and rolls need to be improved.
