After visiting the nearby attractions we decided to come to Byward market once again and on the way to a chain of restaurants we noticed this place. Bearing in mind is so difficult to find Pecking duck in Canada (even Chinese people in supermarkets do not know here what this is, while in the UK you find it not only in restaurants but in chain of big supermarkets too) we decided to access this place, located on the second floor and have the duck: - very friendly servers from China with basic English yet way friendlier than many older Chinese servers I came across in other restaurants; they are a true credit to this place as they were paying attention to when we needed little things - this restaurant is more upmarket than the other places in Byward market and I am so sorry I messed up their white table cloth with the sauce - the duck was great but what a pity the pancakes were thicker than usual and also placed in folded squares which made it very difficult to unfold and even our server could not do it - the place was empty as we arrived but 2 more tables got later occupied and we liked this quiet ambiance as we were positioned near the fireplace and window noticing the Beaver's tail across the road for our dessert we love so much!!!
Got food poisoning from here. Never recommend

We reserved a table of 6 at this fairly little restaurant for 5:30, and by 7:00 it was packed full. I didn’t know it’s practically inside a Marriott. The servers were efficient and carved the Peking duck at our side. Jacky kindly helped with ordering. The spicy beef ribs was the best; others loved the BC crab. The duck presentation was nice, it’s just too bad we were stuck in the small back room without windows. Everyone liked the eggplant and salads: Chinese mixed platter, and Peking with black fungus. The jajang Black bean noodle bowl and fried onion pancake were popular too. It would have been perfect with dessert someplace…maybe once the shopping mall is finished being built across the street…I would have given the restaurant 5/5 except they don’t normally give towels for our hands. For the fine dining price range, I would have expected at least extra napkins (and tea) like elsewhere. I would return but only if Peking duck is really a hit with everyone. It’s pricey and had better be worth every penny!
For a Chinese and went to Beijing lots of time, the qualty of the restaurant is low. The skin of duck is not crispy, and the meat is not juicy enough. The salty fried duck bone is good but I'm still disappointed. The the disadvantage of no competition. Besides, during my meal mis-order happened
Had seen mixed reviews on this restaurant and decided to try this restaurant next to Marriot hotel.Average decor, average service and average duck. The only things above average were the presentation of food and the prices.Did not live up to it’s reputation as related to the supposedly famous QJD restaurant from Beijing.
Peking Duck everything !! But some absolutely fabulous beef dishes, and vegetables. Servers are fluent in English and knowledgeable about the menu. The duck is a real treat !
Our friends took us to this restaurant on Jan. 4, 2020. We were 10 adults and 1 toddler. Reservations were made two weeks prior. Upon arrival at the restaurant, we were surprised to see the table assigned to us to be very small. They told us that’s because it’s a table for 8 (“so sorry”), but “it can seat 11 (“so sorry”). Really? If we don’t move nor raise our arms to eat, maybe we will fit. Ridiculous. Then our host went around and found three big empty tables somewhere on the floor, but “no, they are all reserved (“so sorry”). After a few minutes of going back and forth, they agreed to give us one of the big tables provided we vacate it at 7:30 pm. At this time, because of the table issue, it was already almost 6 pm and we have just been seated. By the time food was served it was 6:10 pm. Because of the stress of watching the time, we did not enjoy the food as much as we could have. And guess what, one of the other two big tables beside ours was given to walk ins, not sure about the other one; and by the time we left the restaurant at 7:40, no one was waiting to take our table. Were they saving the big tables for possible walk ins as opposed to giving them to customers who are already there and who have made the reservation two weeks before? The food was good and interesting, a bit different from the usual chinese fare. Seems like they have changed their menu since the first time we were there. There was only one waiter assigned to the three tables, and he kept disappearing, coming out only when he sees us helping ourselves with the food or wine, etc. They did change the plates often, which is good. So if you need a big table, mention it when you make your reservation.
I felt very welcome and very at home at this restaurant. The attention to detail, food presentation and service and food quality gives this establishment a five star rating.
I arrived at the Courtyard Hotel in the evening. This restaurant is attached to the property. I entered thru the Hotel entrance. It is an elaborate Chinese restaurant. Most dishes are very expensive, but I found a few that I could order as a party of 1. Excellent food, Excellent service.
I just brought my family here for Thanksgiving and was very disappointed. The cost of the food is high-end, but it's just okay, I've had better. The service is not impressive and the restaurant itself is underwhelming and smells strongly of bleach. I was definitely expecting much more and will not be going back.

“QJD Peking Duck” is a rather new Chinese restaurant in Toronto with friendly and enthusiastic staff. The restaurant is spacious and very “duck”. The “duck-ness” starts from the big yellow duck chef welcoming guests at the front, followed by these cute duck chopsticks holders on the dining table, a special 3-dimentional duck plate serving the roast duck dish, and ends with a pond of little duckling puffs as desserts. The “Private Room Dinner Set B” (CAD 888) for 8 to 10 people includes 13 dishes, including seafood, vegetable, meat, soup, desserts, that can easily feed 12 people. The aesthetic presentation of the food is jaw dropping. Guests have the opportunity to witness how a chef creates a flower from freshly slicing the signature “Roast Peking Duck”. The food is not just pretty, but also very aromatic and delicious!
I have to keep in mind that this restaurant is located inside a hotel so that's usually a sign that it's going to be expensive. The wait staff was very friendly, the Peking duck the chef was preparing looked amazing and all the patrons were not white, so I was ready for some delicious food. I ordered four dishes: spring rolls, fried rice, lemon chicken and some beef with brocolli recommended by the waiter. The meal without tip or drinks because I was just getting take out was 86$. I was surprised but I thought it'd be worth it. No, it wasn't. The spring rolls barely had any duck in them. The lemon chicken didn't have much flavour. The rice was really nice with mushrooms in it, and the beef was delicious. Maybe if this meal was under 60$ I would not have been so disappointed, but unfortunately this was a miss for me and I regret spending so much.
We booked the restaurant for a family Birthday party. The food was excellent. The Peking duck was very good. The sweet and sour pork, filet steak with black pepper and shrimp with scrambled egg were also highlights. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The presentation for all the dishes was great. It is a bit pricey but it is worth it for a high quality Chinese meal.
I come from Beijing China ?? , this restaurant called QJD ( Quan Ju De) Peking duck Toronto , I gave 3 stars. Duck is ok , better than Da Ya Li Peking Duck of Markham . But if you want to eat real Beijing duck , I recommend please come to Beijing ?, no other way. Show some pictures, I only took some.
QJD has been a legendary Peking Duck restaurants name in Beijing for many years, which I have visited a few times, and was very impressed with the quality of the Duck and the artistic presentation of the chef carving and serving the Duck, which was a most enjoyable dining experience every time. I finally visited the Toronto QJD. I was quite impressed with the renovation which was done in a classy manner. The two prices for Duck was $88 and $118 which were considerably more expensive than the average price of $40-50 in other Chinese restaurants in the GTA. The meat were cut into very small pieces, 1/3 the size of most other places. The skin was not crispy, and the pieces have fat between the skin and the meat. I was told by a chef at QJD in Beijing that their style of BBQing a Duck is to burn off the fat, and the HK chefs prefer to leave some fat to add to the flavour. The Duck liver slices appetizer was very bland, and the texture was powdery. Anyway, there are a few Northern Chinese style restaurant in GTA that prepares better Peking Duck at lower prices. But, I do accept that there is a cost for the name and the decoration. Surprisingly, the menu had many Cantonese and Shanghainese dishes. We ordered a few and they were all quite good, especially the Shanghai style fried shrimp that was very good in Toronto standard. We were served by two young men who were very friendly and efficient. QJD is a Peking Duck restaurant and my rating is focused on this dish.
