The service attitude of the staff is extremely poor and must be improved. Extremely poor customer service here. Must retrain your staff and improve on your overall delivery of services. I do not recommend anyone to come this poor restaurant.

We had bad diarrhea eating here and service was terrible. Not a worthwhile place to visit. Save your money and time.

What a terrible experience at Sushi Umi. I went there for my birthday yesterday with my family and was met with disappointment.

When dessert was served as part of the Omakase course while my entire family was just starting to eat it, a Blue Haired female server stuck my birthday cake into my face with the candle already lit. We were all dumbstruck as we hadn't informed the server to serve our cake yet as we were still eating. But I didn't think too much and said thank you. The Blue Haired server then proceeded to advise me to blow out the candle, and she'll pack up the cake for me to consume at home. I was like, "WHAT?!?" I asked her why I can't eat the cake at the restaurant and she says customers don't typically eat their birthday cakes there. Are you kidding me? Who would go there to celebrate a birthday bringing a cake and not eating it?! I find this explanation really ridiculous.

Not only was this gesture a total buzz kill and extremely disrespectful, when I insisted I would like to consume the cake at the restaurant and wanted a knife to cut the cake, she refused to provide one because knives were sharp, she says. No duh knives are sharp! Otherwise how do you expect this instrument to cut items?!.

I was like, "WHAT?!?" The buzz kill at this point was through the roof with this lady. Is she assuming that I've never held an instrument in my life and that I'm not aware of how to use a knife?! I was mixed with shock and frustration and insisted that she brings me even a plastic knife or butter knife for me to cut my cake. She says they don't have such utensils and still refused. After some back and forth, she finally agreed and came out with a serrated knife which I was allowed to make one quick cut, and she quickly snatched the knife and cake away from me.

When she came back out with my plated cake, I said, "Can I make a quick suggestion? I'm sure I'm not the only person who celebrates a bday here. I would highly suggest your restaurant to have a cheap, dull knife for customers to use if you're worried about knives being sharp to avoid such disappointing situations from happening again." Instead of accepting this suggestion, this lady proceeds to argue that this is a reasonable policy that knives are dangerous. This really frustrated me, and I simply told her how poor her service skills are and that she absolutely needs retraining. Not only should she listen to the customer, understand the customer and be respectful to their feedback, her action of bringing the cake out while we're still eating our meal is already a sign of her lack of service. Then she proceeded to ask me to blow out my candle and then packing my cake away before allowing us to eat it was also the MOST outrageous thing I've ever heard in my life. And then ptoceeding to refusing to provide a knife for us to cut the cake. Whereas when we mentioned this to her other server colleague, she was much nicer and said she would bring a knife, plates and forks for us to use for the cake (prior to this lady stopping her and refusing to give us a knife).

Not to mention my family and I all had really bad diarrhea after eating this meal that makes me question also the quality of the food served. My family's reservation was made for 8:30 pm, and my husband had to go back home to get the bday cake and so we couldn't start our Omakase until 8:43. So if the restaurant's comeback for the poor food quality is that we started 13 minutes late, this argument is pretty lame and hard to believe.

So as you can see from above, I had a terrible experience here with my family and would advise everyone to NOT step foot in this terribly overpriced, poor quality, zero service restaurant.

If you're the restaurant owner reading this, I would definitely reevaluate the appropriateness of employing this blue Haired lady, reas

Food is super good and the price is reasonable (tax break)
However ,we found that the chopstick is dirty in prior of the meal started.
If the meal is valued under 30 it is acceptable
But when the meal is priced 90+, it is unacceptable and not appropriate .
Hope the restaurant can take it serious in future

my first Omakase experience and it was nice. It did set my omakase expectation high. its a bit over priced, and they could have used better and more luxury fish. but the experience overall was good.

I made a reservation with my boyfriend to celebrate an anniversary. The food was of good quality and the omakase was good. The chef also acted professionally, but the only thing that raised eyebrows was the inconsistent attitude of the server! From the time I sat down until I left, I felt the service I deserved. The servers all seemed to be from Hong Kong, and they were even more enthusiastic to help take photos. We were the last group of customers to leave that day. After we checked out and left the store, we heard at the door that the clerk who had just helped check out said to his colleagues: "I wouldn't have been so attentive to them if I had known!" We were very surprised when we heard this. Are you dissatisfied with the amount of tip we paid? His colleague noticed that we were still outside the store and immediately said "Shhh!"

We asked ourselves that we paid a relatively reasonable tip, but we found this experience completely unacceptable and deterred us from returning in the future. Later, I shared this story with other friends, and they also said that the Hong Kong aunty-level clerk in this store would speak ill of customers behind their backs, which was very annoying. I hope that in addition to maintaining the quality of food, the store will also pay attention to the education and training of employees.

At this price point, I’d consider this an average omakase experience. Chef and servers were overall nice. All of the fish served were relatively good. However, the seaweed appetizer was not good at all. Tamago had an odd, firm jello like texture, but the coconut panna cotta was delish

My boyfriend brought us here for a date night, i liked that the seating was minimal for a calmer evening. unfortunately for us there was a couple talking all night to one of the workers (they were obviously friends of the owner)- they were across the room from us but the room is small and quiet, except for them. more unfortunately for me they were speaking in cantonese(which i understand) meaning i couldn’t tune them out and was forced to listen to their obnoxious conversation all night :-) I recall noticing that even the people beside them were visibly irritated- is restaurant etiquette dead?
Anyways the tuna selection was good and the cuts were not at all fishy. the appetizer was good, as well as the matcha-coconut panna cotta:) But my favorite was the torched otoro! I want to say I would come again but if this it the leniency they have towards friends-of-the-owner then maybe not:-) Our chef and server were very kind, attentive and considerate though!

Good sushi for the price point. The rice was a bit mushy for my taste. The add-on offerings are too expensive, they should have a <$20 add on option just in case anyone is still hungry. Or a sashimi appetizer plate option.

I had a great time at Sushi Umi, the food and service was top notch. The value that you get for the whole experience is really good and I especially loved the intimate setting. Would definitely recommend it to people who have never tried the omakase experience.

Had lunch there today. Everything was very good except that the sushi rice was a bit soggy but its seasoning was just right. Loved the shima aji and chyutoro. Will be coming back often!
