Did Takeout via UberEats. Got the Omurice based off social media hype. was it good? sure. But nothing amazing and doesnt justify the $25 price tag in my opinion. The fried rice was very Manchu Wok/food court - was expecting a bit better. Super soysauce - I dont think there was any chicken despite it being described as chicken fried rice... I dunno guys, it wasnt bad, but nothing spectacular either

We were first drawn in by the vibe of this bar-restaurant while walking around in JT during lunch time, and the Google reviews really helped us decide what to order.

The grilled shishito peppers and karaage with kaeshi were surprisingly delicious 😋 — simple dishes, but full of flavor and perfectly done. Definitely worth a try!

Cozy atmosphere with nice wall art and decorative merchandise. Staff were friendly and attentive. They offer different daily specials, which is a nice touch.

I had the shrimp stir-fry udon: good flavor, though slightly oily for my taste. The restaurant wasn’t busy, but the wait time for food was longer than expected.

Overall a good experience, would come back to try other dishes.

The chowder was just okay — about a 3 out of 5.

The pasta was extremely bland. Honestly, I could make something better at home.

The omurice was also disappointing. The egg had no seasoning at all, and the rice just tasted like it was mixed with soy sauce.

What I really don’t understand is why it took 30 minutes for food of this quality to come out.

I hope others can save their time and money by reading this review.

Anyone who has ever been to Japan would understand how disappointing it is to see this kind of food being labeled as Japanese cuisine.

I would not recommend this place to anyone who loves Japan or has been to Japan. The experience was a huge disappointment, and it didn’t reflect the quality or charm I associate with Japan at all.

Tanuki is easily my favorite spot for Japanese comfort food. I honestly can’t stop ordering the Omurice. I get it every single time and it’s always perfect. The eggs are so fluffy and the sauce is spot on.

Great vibes, fast service, and consistently delicious. If you’re coming here, you have to try the Omurice!

The food was good the curry they done a wonderful job. I will come back there again. The staff was amazing and friendly. Their service is amazing. I want the curry little bit spicy but the food was good when I was sitting there. It was really quiet and it is good to eat there and enjoy my meal 😊👍👍👍👍👍

“Best Katsu curry” in the GTA according to my son. He has tried a lot of katsu curry in the GTA and even in Japan. Right in the middle of J-Town. We loved everything that we tried and can’t wait to return to try other items from the menu.

Had a great lunch here with my buddy. Very authentic. Oumirice was my favourite dish. Pickled Beets were delicious too. Smelt could have been slightly crispier.

Overall a lovely place tucked away in J-town.

The three of us was able to get a lovely seat by the large window near the back.

The portion sizing was great for us girlies. With a wide variety of tea and coffee options.

The staff was attentative and kind, and did not rush us to leave once we finished eating. We yapped and finished our drinks at our own leisure.

If you're in the area, I recommend swinging by.

The restaurant is in J-town , made me think it would be authentic Japanese chef, owned restaurant but I was wrong. Which is okay if the food is good …. But it wasn’t.
I can’t understand rating of 4.1. Curry was straight from prepackaged cheap taste. Tan-tan udon ..I don’t think chef tasted before bringing out…
I will not return to the restaurant.

Do not waste your time. Arrived at 3:20 pm. Sign said closing at 4 pm with last call 30 minutes prior. Staff said the kitchen was already closed because it was “not busy”, despite several tables still eating.

Clearly more interested in closing early than honoring their own hours. Been here multiple times this year and the food quality has been steadily declining.

This was the final straw. I will not be back and recommend you don’t either.

Although we didnt try out the restaurant their menu had us drooling. We will make sure to save some tummy for this establishment next visit.

The restaurant was packed with people.

Came here for lunch, and our server forgot to put in our orders. We waited over an hour for our food to come out and it NEVER DID. No one checked on us at all until we finally asked about our order. When we asked the server, they told us they forgot to put in our order. This was for a birthday lunch so this was incredibly disappointing. We ended up just leaving and not eating anything.
