Just had a wonderful lunch. Adam our server was exceptional. He gave great input into all selections. From our chai tea, to Welsh rarebit, quiche and sticky pudding, it was delicious. 5 👍👍👍👍👍
We as a family and friends have been coming here for a couple of years now. We travel from an hour away. Adam has always been the best host. Fantastic atmosphere. Never have had a bad meal there and have tried almost the whole menu. Adam has also been very good with our grandchildren, now 4, 8 and 11. When they were younger he would always make them up a special plate. Scones are great and when you ask ahead of time you will have them for take home.
My friends and I love a nice afternoon tea so we planned to try out this place. I'm vegetarian (near vegan), one other is pescatarian and the third just eats mainly vegetarian but is not strict. Naturally, I wanted to call to ask them about what sort of adjustments they do for vegetarian/vegan. How disappointing to try ringing three or four times today and never getting an answer. Once I decided to wait until the end of the many rings and leave a message. After the long stretch of rings it HUNG UP on me! Really?! I don't mind that you have a bare bones website; no problem. But then know that people may want to phone to ask questions. If you're too busy to answer the phone, I can see that, small family run business, but then you can at least accept voicemail.
I have been going here for years. Adam is incredible- he is professional, polite and can't do enough for you! I have never been disappointed here.
Such a lovely place to enjoy some tea and treats with friends and family. The place has a cozy vibe with wonderful and welcoming staff. I will definitely be back soon!
If you’re looking for a tea shop that is warm and welcoming, this is the place. It full of beautiful china, teapots and historical memorabilia.
You will be treated like Royalty. Adam greets all the guests with warmth and familiarity. The menu has something for everyone. The menu is not gluten free but we brought our own bread and their
delicious sandwiches were made for us on the gluten free bread. Highly recommend this charming venue. It’s such a lovely experience.
Cozy, personal and great to buy from
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional experience my friend and I had at your establishment. During a challenging time for my friend, we sought a quiet space to reconnect and discuss personal matters. This venue, one of his favorites, is typically very busy and requires advance reservations. We were pleasantly surprised when the management team accommodated us on short notice.
Every aspect of our visit was delightful, particularly the amazing selection of teas. Our host was incredibly helpful, providing a thorough explanation of the offerings. We enjoyed the vanilla chai and an assortment of sandwiches, including the Welsh rarebit with extra butter, which was my personal favorite, as well as a walnut cream sandwich and a cream and apple sandwich.
The inviting ambiance and attentive hospitality truly uplifted our spirits and allowed us to navigate our week with renewed positivity. Thank you to the entire team for making our day so special; your efforts are deeply appreciated.
Best afternoon tea ever. Adam, the owner, does a great job looking after everyone!!
Very quaint and cute tea shop! I came for my birthday and loved the experience! The teas were great and I loved the antique chinaware! My fav was the earl grey cream! The food could've been a little better, the best bite were the scones (came with clotted cream!) We found the sandwiches/cookies and bit repetitive and bland. The owners was super nice and provided great service and it was such a cute shop to chat and experience traditional afternoon tea!

Food was delicious and excellent service - very welcoming!
Had the high tea here last weekend. Lovely little shop, cozy decor, great selection of teas and treats.
Loved the fine china used for serving.
My mom and I visited The Old Curiosity Tea Shop for the first time just after family day this year to celebrate a personal milestone. This afternoon tea shop has been on my radar for many years, but I have only gotten to know Markham over the past couple years, and have tried many of my local spots already. Well I have to say that this experience was one of our favourites to date. The shop was much larger than I imagined, cozy and full of victorian charm. The food was so tasty, and the afternoon tea goodies were unlike other places I have tried. We loved everything about this place. We can't wait to come back to try the other English fare on their menu. We liked that you could order the afternoon tea or something else on their lunch menu if the tea was *ahem* not your cup of tea. For $30.00 plus tax, their afternoon tea price per/person was under the cost that I normally pay other places, but the food was just or even more delicious. The tea selection was great, their house blend was perfect and as an earl grey with afternoon tea purist, I took a chance on the Buckingham palace tea and was not disappointed! One of the main standouts of this shop was Adam, who served us. He was so welcoming, friendly and funny. He even offered to customize our afternoon tea sandwiches to accommodate our dietary preferences (this is not always possible at other places). Adam was so attentive and it was clear that he enjoyed being at the shop and serving customers to a great experience. He shared tidbits about the history of the building and spoke so highly of their regular clientel. My mom and I cannot wait to make the trip again out to mainstream Markham again to try their Welsh rarebit, because it looks phenomenal! Thank you Old Curiosity Tea Shop for your service, charm, and a wonderful experience on a special day! We will be back and have already told so many of our friends to book a reservation with you!
High tea close to me! This hidden gem in Markham was quite lovely. The traditional tea service included a two tier sandwich tray and a two tier sweet tray including homemade warm scones with clotted cream.. The tea selection was extensive and our strawberry lemon tea was very good.. I would definitely recommend this location and many thanks to Andrew who is warm, welcoming and very attentive.
The Old Curiosity Tea Shop is an absolute gem in Markham! The atmosphere is cozy, elegant, and reminiscent of classic British charm. The service is impeccable, and Adam is truly the king of hospitality—knowledgeable, kind, and always offering great advice and instructions. He’s also a fantastic conversationalist, remembered our names from our last visit, and matched our outfits/tea choice to a tea cup!
The food is outstanding, with everything (as far as I know) made fresh in-house. They are incredibly accommodating to allergies, making it a safe and welcoming space for everyone. I always go for the afternoon tea, and it never disappoints. Shout out to the back-of-house staff for their amazing work! My favourites? The cookies, fresh and hot scones, and the apple or Branston pickle sandwich.
Highly recommend—10/10! Thank you for the incredible memories, and I can't wait to come back for more.
