There have been mixed reviews of this restaurant however we had a great meal. The server was friendly and attentive without hovering. We had a shared Mimi-Yorkies with mashed and roast beef. Fantastic! Really delicious. Dinner was short rib for me, a bit dry but tasty and the roast potatoes were glorious! My husband had the NewYork strip loin steak and asked for medium rare. It was a perfect medium rare. Dessert was a key lime cheesecake, very yummy. I would definitely come back.
Friends from Ottawa and Kingston arranged to meet in Merrickville and selected Harry’s for lunch. Great choice! The dining room was beautifully decorated, with tables separated to facilitate conversation. The menu was varied, the food well prepared, the service prompt. As we were finishing our meal the manager stopped at our table to engage in conversation. AND shortly after our visit we received an email thanking us for our patronage. We will be back!
We are locals but haven’t been in for a while. I can’t speak for the rest of the dishes but we stopped in for lunch and I had a burger and fries and my wife had a beef dip and fries. The burger was the best I’ve had in quite a while and I’ve had some pretty good ones. It had a nice char but was still juicy. Just a great burger and the fries were fantastic as well. My wife said the beef dip was one of the best she’s had since she was 20 or so. High praise from her. Very glad we stopped in.
Stopped here while heading back to Ottawa. As I was eating my meal, I read some previous Tripadvisor reviews of this place and was frankly confused. While I will not question other peoples bad experiences here, my night was very enjoyable, and did not at all compare to the nightmare scenarios some folks have described. I found the service here very fast and the food pretty good. Although I have definitely eaten at better restaurants, I would return here the next time I am in Merrickville. Note: I ate here in mid-October when it was not busy, so that could have played a factor in my good experience.
Would you pay $17.99 for poutine? Or $20 for a burger (no sides)? Well that's what they were charging in the courtyard cafe this weekend at Harry McLean's. They have cheap plastic chairs, no ambiance, a limited and uninspired menu and the nerve to charge outrageous prices!! Needless to say we left and decided to eat at the Yellow Canoe Cafe. Prices were very reasonable. They had put some creativity into their menu (the curried sweet potato soup was lovely) and the ambiance was rustic but nice.
We decided to stop for lunch on a recent trip from Ottawa and totally regret it! The servers were not wearing masks and there was no sanitizer to be found. There were several large cobwebs in the corner of the windows and the place was unclean. Not knowing if the same rules applied, one should go will your initial gut reaction. Be safe and stay away from this place, your wallet will thank you too!,
On Aug. 3/20, my husband and I chose Harry McLean's Pub courtyard to eat lunch during our day trip to Merrickville. Wearing our face masks as we walked into the courtyard, we were immediately impressed by how far the outdoor tables had been placed to ensure physical distancing between the patrons. Before we even sat down, one of the servers approached us with a menu. He was not wearing a mask. He was closer than 6 feet away from us before we could move away from him. We then noticed that the other server on duty was also not wearing a mask and was not maintaining a minimum of 6 feet distance from the patrons. We immediately told our server our concerns and left. We ate at the Yellow Canoe Cafe out on their patio where their servers were all wearing masks and where the tables for the patrons were all a minimum of 6 feet away. We also witnessed how the servers sanitized each table and chair between patrons. We were very impressed and will return to the Yellow Canoe Cafe on our next day trip to Merrickville.
We stopped here for lunch after going to the Merrickville Christmas Craft Fair. The food was excellent ! We were served very quickly and the presentation was lovely! This will definitely be a new favourite place to eat in Merrickville for me!!
We arrived on a busy Saturday night and sat at a table that had just been vacated. It took almost half an hour to get the table cleared (by a young busser with attitude) and to order a beer, which took another ten minutes to come. After we ordered a burger and wings we waited over an hour, and then were told that the server had forgotten to put in the order and now the kitchen was closed. We ended up with a salad, which was pretty good, and a plate of nachos, which was not. To be fair, the server was celebrating her birthday, which must have been somewhat distracting. She was superficially apologetic (and comped us for what we did get) but never came back to see if we needed anything else. In fact, she seemed more interested in partying with the regulars than in actually doing her job. In the end it took us two hours to have one beer and food that wasn't what we ordered. Bottom line: Stay away from this place. Apparently this is not a serious business: It's a social club for friends of the staff.
Stopped in here to eat with the family as it was apparently a good spot to stop; WRONG!!! Stopped in and it wasnt very busy at all about 1/3 seating capacity. Took a bit but ordered appies an drinks and by the time our server came back to take our order my sons drink and mine were well gone. By the time our appies came they were cold...... the question is; How do deepfried jalapeño poppers become cold? Also blatantly ignored the fact that we placed our empty cups to the corner of the table where she looked right at them while serving the appies. The table that seated next to us was also running dry and after 45 minutes with still no service since the dispensing of the appies or any sign of our meals nor our server I enquired with my 9 year old what we should do. With sound logic he suggested we least as this place had terrible service. He also asked how do we pay. I advised I’d calculate what our single round of drinks were and our bad appies and leave the money on the table. The meals would be up to the establishment. I have had some bad dining experiences but i have never walked out of an establishment. This place was the worst and I would never attend nor recommend this place to anyone.

The service was very slow (two of us). At the time of our visit I counted 6 tables. We waited 50+ minutes for our food. Food arrive but it was not ours, it was removed and given to the next table. (I had a cold and was concerned about this). At one point I questioned the slowness of of meal ( I had to find the server to ask) as the couple beside us had arrived after us and were now just about finished their meal. I also requested a glass of beer as the server had not returned to ask for refiles of water or drinks. Our food finally arrived (the beer never did). The salad was warm, the reset of the meal was just ok (steak on a bun and fries). At the time of paying I approached the server and indicated that we were not pleased with the service. She was very indifferent to my complaint, so much so that I asked to speak the manager. This was a waist of time as he was just as rude and indifferent offering no concern as to why I was complaining. Not sure how a place like this stays in business. I can honestly say that I am generally an understanding person and can understand if an establishment is busy etc... but there is really no excuse for the bad service and lack of concern for what a customer had to say.
We ate dinner here last night, a very hot Canada Day. Only went because it is a NEW menu and advertising local and organic choices. Being incredibly finicky eaters we decided to keep it simple with organic beef burgers and fries. Same menu both sides, so we sat in the finer diners section ;) The burger was very tasty, not dry, and the sourdough bun was a good size, not gargantuan, and decorated with red onions and tomato with lettuce. Simple. The fries were not greasy, and were tasty- better than the food truck chips we've eaten in town. Overall a satisfying meal, and with the new an improved menu choices, will we go back. We did not have drinks, nor dessert. The service was not exceptional. Perhaps they were bummed they had to work Canada Day.
We have only been for lunch BUT Always good, never been disappointed, freindly very competent service and a memory Of people and like amazing Enjoy the simple board of the menu of the day and ofcourse selections from the menu. Chat with Amy about your selection she will street you on the right course.
We dropped in here after the Santa Clause parade and visiting the shops on the main. We had a 20 month old so the gal put us on the pub side of the restaurant. Service was average but the food was terrible..... The menu was a pice of paper with very few options. Three of us had the Club wrap and another had the penne pasta. The best part of the wrap dish was the accompanying fries, as the wrap was 80% lettuce with barely any sauce or chicken. The pasta dish was basically sauce from a can with baked cheese on top....... The bill was $82 before tip.......for basically fries and ginger ale ..... Will never return and hopefully they will correct there menu.
The music was great and the company even better. Everyone is very friendly and it was a great way to end our evening before heading to bed.
