Great food, great service, and great value—Katsuya hits all the right notes! As soon as we walked in, DK’s newly released Happy Virus from Seventeen’s 10th anniversary album was playing—💯 🤩made my day right off the bat.
We ordered the pork katsu, and it was crispy, flavorful, and came with a surprisingly tasty cabbage salad on the side. The chicken was just as good—juicy and well-seasoned. We also tried the takoyaki, which had a generous amount of katsuobushi and was super satisfying.
10/10 will definitely be coming back. Katsuya is a win all around!
Such a cute cozy casual place. You must try the udon carbonara SOOO GOOD. And they’re soo nice. can’t wait to go again.
First time here with the family. Kids loved the cheesy stuffed katsu and I really enjoyed the spicy onion katsu. Wonderful spot and good pricing.
I recently visit again with my family, the employees that work there are super nice .
poor communication skills from staff .. don't get irritated with the customer if you can't speak enough English to get your point across .. food is good but service needs to do a lot better ... I've been several times before it was never a problem .. elderly waitress needs to work on communication with customers 🤗
Finally got to try Katsuya after wanting to go for so long and it didn’t disappoint!
We had the Japanese Chicken Katsu and the Original Chicken Katsu both were super crispy, flavorful, and reasonably priced.
Best staff, great food, chill vibe. I’ll definitely be back!
We dined at Katsuya and were impressed by the big serving sizes and amazing food—definitely great value for money. However, there was a hiccup with our experience: three of our table's orders didn't get punched in, and we only found out after waiting 30 minutes and following up. To their credit, the staff were very apologetic and made up for the mistake by giving us complimentary drinks. Despite the delay, the quality of the food and the staff's response made it a worthwhile visit. We'll likely be back, hoping for a smoother experience next time.
Used to be a solid spot, but recently the staff and service have been so poor and subpar… not surprised it’s no longer busy even on Saturday nights. Unfortunate.
the portions are quite small for the price especially the take out though it's nice and neatly packed and the crab croquettes are not really worth it just mashed potato ball with cheese and fried breading... literally like 2 flakes of crab in the potato and it's not even real crab meat.... straight imitation and not worth the money, north york location is the only one maybe but wouldn't travel out of my way.
I feel conflicted. I remember eating at Katsuya quite a while ago, being impressed by the generous portion and reasonable price. This time we wanted a quick supper after a long day, and I was counting on Katsuya to alleviate our ravenous hunger.
We ordered the Japanese style Katsu set, both with chicken and pork. If you are able to eat either one, I'd say stick with pork. The chicken Katsu is too thin for me, and I enjoyed the pork Katsu's texture.
Also, my chicken Katsu was so thin and fried that it was mostly tasteless. The breading was bland and did a good job absorbing the oil that I had to rely on the Katsu dipping sauce for any taste. While I would normally appreciate the huge portion, eating a huge amount of breaded and oil-saturated pieces of chicken left an unpleasant taste in my mouth. Thankfully, the spicy tteok-bokki came to the rescue, and it was great to eat something beyond anything with Katsu sauce.
My friend ordered the cheese Katsu, which came in cheddar and mozza varieties. The melted cheese was great, though the pork that wrapped I suffered from the same lack of flavour, and if I used the Katsu sauce, it would overpower the cheese. What a dilemma.
Restaurantji Recommends
Very rude costumer service they even told us to go because they said it looks like we can’t afford to eat in that place. Plus the staff? They don’t understand English at all!!! Very unacceptable behaviour and costumer service!!!!. FYI you guys are not even that fine dine inn and your food isn’t that great!!! Your chicken and pork are overcooked!! And sooo drrrryyyy!!!… this place is garbage just like they’re staff are peace of junk i can’t believe they can treat a costumer like that!! Plus there’s bunch of cockroaches in the place while we we’re eating they were crawling around the place!!!!.
I like their red carbonara udon.
I understand why this place is always full and everyone recommends it all the time… because it’s absolutely delicious and the portions are huge as well. They have a wide variety of katsu dishes as well so I will definitely be back for more.
Extremely small restaurant. Tables were sitting really close to each other, not much space. Only gave it a try because I heard they had a promotion for $10 katsu lunch set. The rice portion was extremely small while the pork chop was massive, I can't complain, rather have more meat than rice for sure. Reviews would be higher but the Korean lady pretended to not see us when we asked for cups, spoons etc. They ran out of curry katsu so we only got the regular, decent. Ordered an order of karage and it was really dry and had too much batter with barely any chicken. Definitely better spots for katsu. Don't think id pay regular price though.
We tried the Pork Katsudon set. I don’t like it. Not the best Katsudon house. Try a different japanese restaurant.
