Mr. Chips Fish Place

Amazing fish and chips in town. Fish is awesome and their salads were amazing. Friendly staff and must visit place. Overall amazing food and experience.

Don't let the unassuming exterior fool you; Mr. Chips Fish Place should NOT be overlooked.

Food: Excellent. I can personally vouch for the following:
- Haddock and Halibut: Comes out oily, but if you don't mind that, the fry is light and really lets the fish shine. Cooked to perfection. House tartar sauce pairs perfectly.
- Poutine: Tasty gravy, stretchy shredded cheese, and thick, well-cooked fries. I wish it was more evenly-coated, but it was still very good.
- Coleslaw: Lightly acidic dressing, not too thick, with a great slaw. Tasty!
- Cherry cheesecake: Very rich, not too overwhelmingly sweet, and balances well with the slightly tart cherry topping. I shared it, but wish I had ordered one for just me!

Price: worked out to about $30 per person for VERY good portions of the following:
- Halibut + Fries + Coleslaw + Pepsi + Cheesecake
- Haddock + Fries + Coleslaw + Iced Tea
- Halibut + Small poutine + Iced Tea + Cheesecake
- Haddock + Large poutine
As you can see, lots of food at a reasonable price, especially considering fish is on the more expensive side of their menu. Everyone left full and satisfied.

Service: Friendly staff, both at your table and in the kitchen! Can order at the counter to go, or dine in; restaurant wasn't too busy, and food came within 10-15 minutes!

Atmosphere: Quaint, cosy, clean building. Simple, functional décor.

Excellent food. Tasty as always. Staff is too friendly, same like old couple who use to run thr business.

One extra piece of halibut $15 seems a bit extreme... won't be going back

The food was delicious! Served super quickly and correctly. The building and decor is dated, but the food more than makes up for it. Other reviews complained about the portion; however, I struggled to finish mine. It was more than enough! Worth the drive from Belleville and will 100% go again.

Fish was good, but prices were unbelievably high. Have been going here many years but no more. There are specials on a Tuesday but pricing was not honored the way it was previously. Portion size is half or maybe even less than what it was last year, plus pricing is either wrong or almost double what was advertised. None of the regular staff appeared to be there, something major has changed at Mr Chips and not for the better. If you are ordering by phone make sure of pricing before you go to ensure there are no unexpected changes...

Hubby and I just ate there, terrible! The fish was dry and tasteless! I paid $20 not to eat a thing! Never again. The server asked how everything was, I couldn’t even look her in the eye! I said nothing ,my hubby said don’t say a thing! What a rip off. I feel money raped! I’m so mad to spend good money on crap!

Got the fish & chips and was largely really happy with the order, it's definitely one of the better spots I've been to. The fish had a lot of flavor and the batter wasn't overly salty or greasy. The chips were a bit on the bland side (which can easily be mended with a dipping sauce) and the coleslaw wasn't the best I've ever had, but they were far from being offensive. The portions are fairly large too, which sort of makes up for the pricey costs. Pretty happy overall though and will definitely return.

Jan 10/2025. Best fish and chips in the area. Halibut was a generous portion and very meaty, so delicious. Server was very friendly and efficient too.

Exactly what we love about a family run, clean, fish and chips focused restaurant. Service isn't over the top and neither is the atmosphere but it's perfect for this type of restaurant and price point. Food is very good with excellent portions.

Prices are decent but had better Fish N Chips. Not as tasty as I would expected after seeing all those reviews. You really need to know there is a restaurant opened on that building also which looked like an abandoned gas station. Overall average place.
