Food did not taste similar or like authentic Jamaican food. The jerk chicken tasted like plain bbq chicken. The salad, I could have made it at home. And 2 small little plaintains with no taste. I was disappointed cause the atmosphere looked great, but the food snatched it back. Service was fine so was atmosphere. But overall, disappointing. The curry goat was also a disappointment. Cooked well but with no taste or close to authentic Jamaican food….sigh, will not recommend.

I cannot emphasize enough what a wonderful 'hidden gem' this place is! Lil' Negril, near the Centerpointe Theatre, is one of my favourite dinner-out spots in Ottawa. The food is excellent with amazing Caribbean flavours and beautiful, precise cooking every time, great prices and comfortable ambiance. Donna is a welcoming 'hostess' with an easy smile and warm humour. I took a 'non-Caribbean' friend tonight and she almost licked her plate, appreciated that we decided on Lil Negril instead of the other restaurant nearby. It is like eating my mum's cooking... HIGHLY recommend!

I really wanted to give a 10/10 review as the service and atmosphere was nice, I ordered take out, salad with chicken, I was really saddened that the chicken was dry, cold, and had burnt pieces/taste.

This unassuming-looking little restaurant absolutely rocks. Enough choices to offer plenty of options, but not too many to bamboozle. Service is quick and comes with a big smile, and the food tastes faaaaantastic! Exotic flavours that are sure to please, combined with very modest prices mean you'll definitely want to return. Highly recommended!! Without doubt a double thumbs up.??

Went to Lil Negril for lunch today, arriving right at opening time, noon.

I had the jerk chicken with mango salsa, a ginger beer and the day's cheesecake special. The ginger beer was quite sweet and not so gingery as to taste hot. The jerk chicken was mildly hot, spice wise but came with a bowl of jerk sauce for dipping so you could add more jerk heat to the flavor. The mango also was basically just dry, cubed mango so nothing special.
The temperature of the food could have been better. The chicken was warm, not hot and the plaintain was barely warm. And two small pieces of plantain seems skimpy for an $18 dish. The only thing that was actually hot was the rice and peas. The cheesecake though was quite tasty and well worth the low price.

The restaurant was nicely but sparsely decorated but didn't really have that caribbean vibe I'd expect. There was one painting of a tropical scene I was quite struck by.

I think I'd like to try this place in the evening before giving a final review. Being there right at opening and based on the barely warm temperature of the chicken and plantain I have to wonder if we're were getting rewarmed food not fresh cooked. Given there were only two tables occupied and the reasonably fast service, I doubt the food was left on the counter too long and cooled before we got it.
On the other hand, it all seemed fresh and quite tasty so I don't want to turn anyone off coming here. I only gave 3 stars for the food because it was lukewarm, not for the quality or flavor.
