Astoria Shish Kebob House - Newmarket

I ordered the pork souvlaki dinner the seasoning on the rice. I don’t know what it is, but it has a weird taste to it and the souvlaki as well. Had a weird taste to it. This doesn’t taste like authentic Greek cuisine whatsoever, and this is disappointing coming from a Greek owned restaurant.

Once again my husband and I are having the same conversation after enjoying takeout from Astoria in Newmarket. Why on earth do we ever order from any of the other locations? Astoria Newmarket hands down is the tastiest freshest most generous portions and the kindest staff. Doesn’t matter what position anyone has there they all take pride in customer service. Never a disappointment at Astoria
We were in town for an appointment and decided to go for a nice lunch.
We started going to Astoria on Danforth at least 30 years ago
Very convenient location here in Newmarket
Ample parking, very clean establishment
Friendly staff, great delicious food
We had the chicken and the pork shish kebobs

Everything was low quality, super oily, pork kebab full of fat, chicken kebab dry with no flavor.

Food is excellent in my experience, except for the pork which I found very odd tasting and overcooked, I usually stick with the chicken which is great.

Prices are insane. Insane. Over 10$ for a small Greek salad, 20$ with tax for a small piece of cheese as appetizer? I am glad to pay for quality but this is bank breaking prices. I cannot justify ordering here more than every few months.

Very disappointed with our meal here.
Greek salad was just iceberg lettuce with 2 olives & feta cheese on it.
The pork was overcooked and very dry and burnt.
Desserts tasted old.
Had to keep asking for drink refills.

While the food isn't bad, the prices seem unproportional to the quality and quantity. At Mr. Greek or Friendly Greek, the portions are about 30% larger and prices are about 40% lower.

I believe this location uses better quality ingredients and is made to order (rather than sitting in a warming tray), but it doesn't balance the higher prices (could be about 10-20% lower) or serving amount (could be 10-20% larger).

Nice. Excellent Tadziki. Not as good as the original on the Danforth but satisfies my need for greek.

I had an absolutely terrible experience at this restaurant. The service was atrocious, and the restaurant and cutlery were filthy. The management was very disregarded when our concerns were brought to there attention, and the wait for our food was unbearably long. When the food finally arrived, it was undercooked and inedible. This place was an utter disaster from start to finish. I would strongly advise everyone to avoid this restaurant. If I could give zero stars, I would.

Gorgeous spot and super clean
The staff were friendly and super efficient.
I ordered a Pork Souvlaki on a Pita. If you like a lot of Fat with your pork then this would be a 5 star. A Souvlaki on a Pita needs to be lean so eating it is easy. I'd purchase sticks from Kostas, they are always lean,mean and easy...
