Overpriced for the Level of Service Provided!
We initially thought this was a decent brunch cafe, but quickly realized it’s more of a slightly elevated Starbucks. We were surprised when our simple order—two sandwiches and teas with a single croissant —ended up costing over $50. For that price, you can enjoy a full brunch or lunch at a high-quality restaurant like Earls or Moxies, with far better service and presentation.
Even though we left a decent tip at the beginning (which, while optional, isn’t appropriate to request before any service is provided), we were then asked to get our own glass to pour water—something that felt out of place for the price point.
Breakfast was served in a saucer, which wasn’t appealing or suitable. Overall, the quality and experience didn’t match the cost. What we received didn’t feel worth more than $25 at most.
The prices simply don’t align with the service offered. I wouldn’t recommend this place, as you can find much better options for the same price elsewhere.
We stopped by Metropolis Café today for the first time since moving to Newmarket, and it instantly became a new favourite. The aesthetic inside is absolutely beautiful, clean, modern, and cozy and there’s a charming outdoor patio tucked away in the back that’s perfect for enjoying your drink on a nice day.
The staff were super friendly and welcoming, and the service was genuinely top-notch. I ordered an iced caramel latte, and I’m not exaggerating when I say it was one of the best I’ve ever had.
This place checks all the boxes atmosphere, service, and quality. It’s definitely going to be my go-to café from now on. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area!
The Cabin by Metropolis is one of my favourite spots on Newmarket’s Main Street. It has everything I look for in a coffee shop, great coffee, tasty sandwiches, fresh bakery, and a nice variety of pastries.
What I really like is the layout: one side opens to Main Street, and the other faces the river, which gives it a calm and cozy vibe. It's a good place to meet up with friends or even just sit down and get some work done. They’ve got free Wi-Fi and a few workstations too.
It’s also close to the historic part of town, which makes it a nice stop for a walk, and it’s friendly for kids and pets. Overall, I just enjoy the vibe there—relaxed, welcoming, and with good food and coffee!
I have never been to the Metropolis cafe before. Everyone talks how great it. It’s a very trendy spot, busy and lots of repeat clientele. I think the vibe is what brings people back.
On my visit on Saturday morning was far from a great experience.
Very busy because of the farmers market. Lots of people in the place inside and out. Line was very long at times when I ordered my matcha latte and crossiant there was no line up. It seemed very disorganized the whole time I was there. People standing around looking very impatient.
I waited 15 mins for my drink. I sat there patiently waiting and eventually I saw a matcha latte on the counter and I went up and inquired about it, it was mine. No one called my name.
My drink tasted wonderful but we decided to leave without the crossiant. The front counter must of had 10 people hovering around waiting for drinks. We didn’t want to inquire about a crossiant to the baristas who probably didn’t even know we ordered one. We were just so frustrated by waiting so long for our drink and everyone else seemed frustrated as well.
A bit of a disappointing visit today, not sure I will be back. Even though I am out a 5.50 crossiant.

A gem of Newmarket. Occasional Peter MacKinnon sightings are a bonus.

Nice atmosphere, but only a certain number of tables allow for laptops.
Croissant pastry was average, nothing exceptional about it. Drip coffee was average, should be served a bit hotter. My cup was lukewarm.
The artisanal goods that were being sold were a bit of a mishmash of items, and it felt like I was at a garage sale. There should be a more curated shopping experience.

Metropolis is the best place around. Staff are very pleasant every time we are there. Which is a lot!! Cappuccinos are delicious. Best coffee! Best oat milk! We haven’t found anywhere else yet that compares to it. It’s a bustling sanctuary. So grateful for a place like this in Newmarket.

Very simple: Warm and friendly atmosphere, and the smoothest, most enjoyable cappuccino I've had in a very, very, long time

Loved this basement cafe!!! Unassuming from the front but down the steps to a great coffee bar. Great latte and bagel was authentic Montreal. Can't wait to try it again.

I’ve been a loyal customer of this café since they opened their doors about five years ago. While the service was never outstanding, I kept coming back because I enjoyed the ambiance. However, after my experience today, I won’t be returning to The Cabin Café anymore. Here’s what happened: I ordered a bagel with salmon, which was listed on the menu for $10.95. When I went to pay, they tried to charge me $14.95, claiming the menu price was incorrect. This wasn’t just a single menu mistake—all their menus listed the price as $10.95. When I pointed out how misleading and unprofessional this was, especially since the difference was almost 40%, they refused to honour the menu price. Instead, they told me I’d have to pay $14.95 if I wanted the bagel. This is unacceptable and shows a complete lack of care for their customers.
On top of that, I purchased a scone and asked if it could be warmed up. They flat-out refused, saying they didn’t have an oven for warming products. Considering they share the same space as the downstairs cafe, they clearly could have warmed it - as they do with all sandwiches, if they cared about customer satisfaction—especially after the bagel incident. The scone itself was mediocre at best—cold and dry.
Overall, the service was terrible, and the staff seemed completely uninterested in providing a positive experience. I would not recommend this cafe to anyone
