I've dined at the Algonquin location several times since they opened, and I'd say they're overall okay. I've never had a terrible experience here though, and their tacos are tasty. Staff has always been good to me.
First of all, I understand the owner is Mexican and may be from Mexico, but this is NOT authentic Mexican food. However, being that North Bay is limited in Mexican cuisine, this place is OK for taco cravings.
Pros: tacos are loaded - lots of meat and fresh toppings, and they have awesome sauces. Tasty tacos! They're around $5.50 each or 3 for $15.
Cons: they don't serve free chips and salsa like most other Mexican restaurants do.
I tried to dine in on May 31 2025 and restaurant was closed, even though online and Facebook said they were open.
Tried calling on June 5 2025 to make sure they were open before I came over, and no one answered. I decided to just drive over since online said they were open, and they were open, and I was the only patron there. Someone should've been able to answer the phone right?
The whole restaurant looked like it was closed up/kitchen closed and there were no smells of anything cooking. No music was playing like there used to be. The only worker there heated up my order in a microwave, and they were unable to give me a full order of a side due to it running out - something that seems to happen a lot there: running out of ingredients and menu items. It was quite off putting that the restaurant seemed like their kitchen was closed, and my meal was thrown together with ingredients pulled out of a fridge and heated up. The worker didn't wear any gloves while preparing my order. The tacos were good though, and the worker was friendly.
The attached pic is what I ordered and ate, for $30 including a tip. They're becoming pretty expensive for okay Mexican food.
In general, they're a bit overpriced (see attached photo of menu).
A few years ago, I had sort of an awkward/rude confrontation with the owner; in which he argued with me that I didn't order something when I did and paid for it.
They do seem different in terms of quality and service than they were a few years ago - slowly declining perhaps?
No parking - gotta park and pay on the street.
Overall, I'd say they're a little overpriced, but they serve alright Mexican food. I'll be back for more tacos. 3.5/5 stars.
Delicious, authentic food, fast, friendly service. Outstanding!
What is pictured vs what I got lol.
Was very excited to try the quesoburrios. The photo looked pretty amazing.
What I got was less than sub par for $25.
Instead of me just complaining online, I reached out to the resturaunt by phone. They instructed me even though it was ordered through Me Ponchos I had to call Casa Maria if I had any concerns. Kind of weird customer service. Reached out to them, they seen the msg annd didn’t respond. Few days later sent an ? and got a very short and cold response saying I had to come to their location in person the next day for a more toasted taco.
Well I work, and don’t appriciate the lack of customer service. A better approach then a non apology cold response would have been “sorry your meal wasn’t to our standards, I’ve added a credit to your account for your next order to use at your leisure”
That would have ensured that I ordered again, and ordered more, ultimately making them more money while giving another opportunity. But giving an ultimatium if I wanted a taco I must go the following morning, is quite silly. I told them I worked that day and they didn’t even respond. Lack of care. Would be better if they used photos of their real food vs google images. Wish they would have just provided basic customer service so I didn’t even have to bother with a review like this, but for the price you pay for their menu items you would expect good food and service
Generally delicious and the staff are so kind. Sometimes the food isn't as good (I think if it's prepared by someone else, they may have hired new staff recently). Consistency could be improved but otherwise it's excellent. Best Mexican cuisine around. It's authentic, fresh, and so incredibly tasty!
Went to the Mall location for a bite as I had time to kill. Staff are decent, but not knowledgeable about what they sell (different ethnicity than the owner), nor do they even know how to make a proper quesadilla. Given how popular their food is, I was surprised at just how bland the chicken quesadilla was coming from an authentic Mexican owner. There was hardly any filling for 2 huge tortillas as well. Paid 16.00 for something worth 5.00.
Won't return, could have gone to any other fast food place for the same thing.
Really disappointed.
Excellent

Food was amazing! I had the chicken tostados and they were so delicious. The atmosphere reminded me of a quaint cantina with a great choice f Spanish music playing in the background …. very authentic

Changing my review. I had their food at the Farmer’s Market today. Grossly overpriced. But the reason I’m changing my review: I’m feeling very ill after trying their “sample” platter. Still giving them two stars because few years ago the burrito was really good.

Hopefully this can be chalked up to a hot day, and hopefully this is not the norm, but we did not have a good experience there today. The young man was aggressive and combative when I kindly went in to explain my order was incorrect.
He started to debate it with me and had a big attitude, throwing things, going to the back in a huff, shaking his head, really uncalled for behaviour.
I decided to leave rather than have my order corrected because no one deserves to be treated like that. I’ve eaten there several times before and always order the same thing, so I know what I ordered, but didn’t feel like having an argument about it.
Also, as a side note, it was almost $70 for 2 burritos, a taco and 3 drinks, which was definitely not worth it considering my meal went into the garbage. We will not be returning anytime soon.

This place has went so down hill. The past two times I’ve ordered my food was soggy and inedible. Tacos fall apart, can’t even eat them, tostadas are soggy with no crunch, meat is flavourless. Just disgusting. I used to love ordering from here and thought it was delicious, not sure what changed. Should really consider changing tortillas and flavouring the meat.

Menu on Skipthedishes is not very detailed. Led to me ordering something that had avocado in it without my knowledge.
I am allergic to avocado.
Tried contacting the restaurant, and was told that it was MY fault, and that I should just know that all their taco plates come with avocado dressing, despite it not being labeled anywhere on the menu or in item descriptions.
Don't get me wrong, the food is great otherwise, and I've had very nice experiences with this restaurant before, but this was not one of them.

Good local spot that doesn't deserve a review bomb, hence the 4 stars. Support local always - but you're way better off going to Quesada if you've got dietary restrictions.I come here every year to see if they've added a single vegan thing but nah there never is.No tofu, no beyond meat, no dairy free cheese and still not even a veggie burrito on the actual menu. Just chicken and beef. Obviously you can order a veggie burrito if you build it yourself but you're gonna pay an arm and a leg for it.If you eat meat - this is likely the best burrito spot in town.If you don't - this is by far the worst burrito spot in town.
Amazing tasting chicken in their dishes! Always tasty meals and friendly interactions!
