The quality of the food seems to have dropped while the prices have gone up, which is really disappointing. The oxtail used to be pretty good — I remember getting a decent portion for $23, along with mac and cheese and coleslaw. Today, at lunch, I paid $33, but most of it was just rice and peas and sauce, and the mac and cheese was an extra charge (didn't get it as it looks like previous night leftovers). The biggest letdown, though, was the oxtail — it was way too salty with almost no spice.

Checked out Roywoods for the Kitchen King collab menu. Unfortunately much of the plantain and oxtail dishes that Kitchen King shares on social media were NOT on the menu. The menu had generic Caribbean food (jerk chicken, oxtail, beef patties etc). We tried the oxtail fried rice with oxtail gravy and the jerk chicken sandwich with fries. The meat was flavourful for both however the portion sizes did not feel worth the price. We took our food to go, it travelled well. The fries came seasoned (unbeknown to us as the menu has fries and seasoned fries). The fries were HORRENDOUS. They appeared to be caked in Lawry's seasoning salt or similar and tasted very bitter as a result. Food was overall not worth the hype. Kitchen King needs his own storefront.

First time trying this location as I’ve always gone to the fort York location, however I wanted to try the oxtail sliders curated by the “kitchen king”. The oxtail is hard, chewy and tastes like it’s been sitting for hours. For $20 for 3 little sliders and stale oxtail, not cool at all. Definitely will never go back here and will stick to Roy woods on fort York.

If you can’t get the basic Jamaican food correctly - jerk / fried chicken. You have no business curating any food. Get the basics first!! Bring back the old chef !!

One of the best jerk chicken I’ve had. Portions were very generous.

I'm not from the area but whenever I'm in toronto I always come to this place. I paid $28 for a large oxtail today and the workers gave me 8 small pieces. The guy working at the front will know what I'm talking about and hopefully the owner reads this. I wont recommend this place anymore as I use too before..its ok to charge high amount as long the amount of food is fair for what you paid
Use to love the food. I don't know if they are under new management but the food now is trash. No boneless meats. The rice and peas don't taste the same. The price increased. Outrageous. Back to tropical Joe's I go. Get rid of the collab with kitchenking.

The staff there were welcoming and nice.
I ordered the large fried chicken meal. I got 3 peices of the driest and not crispy but reasonably seasoned chicken pieces. The rice and beans topped with gravy were yummy. The tiniest portion of coleslaw was given. Overall, the meal was quite salty and underwhelming as I had higher expectations for the fried chicken.
I do not recommend getting the fried chicken.

Tried their menu before and came back to try their new menu items. I wanted to try their oxtail plantain philly sandwich. The flavour was definitely there in the oxtail. Wished the plantain was seasoned with a touch of salt. My only complaint was the sandwich was hard to pick up out of the container. If it were wrapped in parchment paper or tinfoil, it would have been easier to hold like a sandwich. Instead I had the sandwich fall apart as I ate it. I guess the container is only good for catching the oxtail droppings and gravy?

Amazing food. Definitely deserves its own stand alone restaurant. I’ll be supporting this place every time I go to

I was happy to support Roywoods at Yorkdale. I spent around $20 for my order. The jerk chicken dinner that I purchased, they told me that there was no more plantain, and additionally, there were no substitutes for the plantain that ran out. So, I spent an extra $2 for a side of Mac and cheese. There wasn't a drink with the meal, either, which was also an additional cost. The food overall was ok, but the saltiness made it a challenge to finish the rice or fully eat the chicken I received. My only request is to minimize the amount of salt used. It was extremely pronounced in the oxtail gravy that was placed over the rice and chicken (it was very salty), which was a major part of why I didn't finish the meal. The salt was overpowering. I'll try to revisit and try another meal in the near future, but this experience was approx. (2.95)/3 out of 5 (the mac and cheese & coleslaw were a good part of the encounter).

I have ordered here before but since I heard new chef I thought I would try it again. Today I ordered the BBQ Chicken, Rice and Peas and side Mac and Cheese. I have to say I was anticipating having a great meal today but it was just ok. The Mac and Cheese which they didn't have before I was most excited about trying. It was ok. I requested the oxtail gravy on the rice but in all the meal was not earning any excitement for me. I will however, acknowledge that the patties are good. If you are a first time foody with Caribbean food you may just like it but, if you are a well seasoned West Indian food eater you won't really be interested in the food. Just the patty, lol

I ordered Uber… it was supposed to come with coleslaw, and it never did. It also was supposed to come with gravy on the rice which it never did. I don’t know if it’s because if it’s a long weekend, the chicken was extremely dry! From the videos and reviews I saw I just expected a whole lot more. This restaurant is just not for me. The flavour was lacking. The rice was mushy. No coleslaw and gravy. Just made it a dry hot mess. Never again, it was gross.
