“In a restaurant world dressed up with disingenuous marketing JOEY Yorkdale offers you a magnificent spot outside downtown Toronto that delivers what it promises on their home page, “Our guests, new or old, are not treated just as guests, but as if they are a good friend we are catching up with.” And this was the experience for me and my two close chums who selected this spot primarily because it was the midpoint between our diverse locations. From first arriving, the hostess took the time to offer a complimentary champagne glass and inquire if our visit that day was for a special occasion. It was a reunion and she graciously followed up with pleasant comments establishing a charming mood. When the waitress came to greet us, she also took the time to find out more about the nature of our reunion and only then flawlessly delved into the menu. I understand this is common practice at luxury restaurants; however, I would contend that, although there are dining establishments that treat patrons similarly, it is not simply about what you do but, rather, how well you do it. And this is the reason I am taking the time to write this review: JOEY does it very well. Having frequented several luxury restaurants in downtown Toronto I can anecdotally share with you that there have been far too many occasions when the host and/or server left a poor impression. Whether it is conceited complacency in their brand or even our own bigotry of unrealistic expectations, there seldom is a meeting point of both food, service, and overall impression. The treatment at JOEY was so genuine that it left an indelible impression. Each interaction with the server and hostess throughout complemented our dining experience. We were then surprised with dessert on the house presented on an expansive serving plate with the words “Happy Reunion!” written in caramel. Delicious, delicious caramel. Mmmm, but I digress… Over the years I have written to restaurants far more complaints than compliments and, in retrospect, this is unfair. It takes a team and a culture to create this magic and it can be quite challenging to get it right. When it comes together as well as it did on our visit, it is the sort of joy that can accompany you throughout your day. At JOEY they seem to have captured the right formula and I look forward to returning and catching up with “good friends” that understand that going out to eat today is about so much more.”

“Parking is a hassle due to the nature of this roadside spot, but the restaurant itself is lively and energetic. Sat outside at the patio on a summer evening, so there were a couple bugs and flies around the food and table, but nothing too bothersome. Birria tacos were savoury and loaded with beef. Sauces helped add some flavour. Server was excellent and brought food out promptly.”

“Great food and service. I got the combo for 1. Spicy tan ramen. At first when I saw the broth it looked really plain and I was hesitant but when I actually had a sip it was rich and creamy. Definitely recommend :)”

“I'll definitely be ordering this again! It was the perfect solution for when I wanted something super spicy but didn't want to leave the house. The portion is very generous, and it's packed with protein including tasty bean curd and meat. The packaging is excellent and very secure, so you don't have to worry about any spills. Highly recommended for all spice lovers.”

“On September 21, 2025 my husband and i hosted a party for our 85-year-old friend. We were greeted with Happy Birthday Greetings. Our waters were never empty. Our food came on time, was delicious and hot. and all 8 of us enjoyed every chopstick full of such tasty food. Thank you to the staff that took care of every want, even a dish of ice cream dolled up for the birthday girl. Very nice treat. Thank you. Every time the service has been exceptional and caring a bit more today made it memorable for everyone Thank you.”

“The restaurant, service and food at this restaurant was good. However the only downside is that the customers are literally asked to pay a tip. During this difficult period of the pandemic, it is hard to leave a tip. It should be optional but if you do not tip, you are sort of asked "why no tip". This becomes odd and the customer should be given the discretion to tip. This is the reason, I am giving 4 stars to this restaurant.”

“I've been to Yu Seafood Yorkdale several times. An upscaled restaurant near all the high-end retailers. I bought my nephew here during his business trip and everything is good, and the bill was paid without going through the details. Not until I got home and found out one of the dishes was missed out from the dinner set for six. I called the restaurant the next day and the general manager Neilson responded promptly. It could be a human error and promised to compensate on my next visit. Having said that Yu is a great place to enjoy dinner or lunch despite of the mistake they have made on my last visit.”

When we arrived through the back entrance, we were told we needed to wait at the front. I asked approximately how long the wait would be, as it was quite late and I was with my newborn baby. Unfortunately, the response I received was simply, “I don’t know.” It would have been helpful to receive even a rough estimate or a more reassuring response.

Since I wasn’t comfortable waiting outside without any idea of the wait time, I ended up calling the restaurant while standing in line. I was then informed that the wait wasn’t long at all, which was appreciated. Overall, the food made the visit worthwhile, but a warmer, more helpful interaction would have made the experience even better.”

It tasted odd... shortly after,, I called the location to tell them, something was off with the ingredients. I wasn't sure of it was the onions, turnips etc. something was left out too long perhaps... and today I am sick as a dog. I've eaten here before. I think they need better quality control on the food... especially being safely stored.. perhaps temperatures..etc”

“Honestly wasn’t expecting much when coming in. They seated us in the section that had majority tablets; Genius idea. The service was fast and efficient. Everything you need is right there at the table or can be answered by the tablet. The table has compartments where you can find utensils, napkins, etc. The food was reasonably priced, generous portions, and tasted good. If there’s anything you need you can look to the tablet to help you. There’s an option to call a server and has options for your inquiry.

“Not truly wheelchair accessible. I was very much looking forward to dining here. After reading some of the other comments in the question section, we called to confirm the extent to which they are wheelchair accessible. Utterly disappointed to find out that although they have a ramp, the only accessible dining areas are if you're with one of the large groups. Meaning that as an individual with accessibility needs, I was excluded from dining at this restaurant. My accessibility needs are temporary, however you can guarantee I won't be dining at this restaurant even when I'm able to walk again, until they rectify this situation. Inexcusable to exclude people with mobility needs in this day and age.”

“I came here with a friend for Summerlicious. The three-course menu was quite limited, with only three options for each course. The cucumber shrimp toast was good, but the salad was too bitter for us. Our waiter noticed we didn’t finish it and kindly replaced it with the watermelon soup, which was refreshing but not really to my taste.

For the mains, we tried the braised beef and chicken. The beef had a strong wine flavour and tasted very salty and bitter, so the savoury dishes were just okay overall. I was a little disappointed because I expected the Summerlicious menu to showcase some of the restaurant’s best dishes. The desserts weredefinitely the highlight: the passion fruit tart and strawberry panna cotta were both delicious. The service was excellent, and our waiter was very kind and attentive!”

“I’ve been here many times and just thought to finally leave a review. I was here first in late 2022 if I’m not mistaken and since then it’s always been a pleasure to dine here. The staff remember you and your preferences and will serve you attentively. The food, considering kosher restrictions is immaculate and a great treat every single time. They serve a wide range of cuts and entrees, great appetizers, excellent drinks and delicious desserts. Their veal piccata is a favourite of mine and the rest of their meats are also something with which you can’t go wrong. I’ve been here before and I’ll be here again. 10/10 would recommend.”

There was a period when my work hours were overwhelming, and I simply didn’t have the energy to cook. “We've been on a bit of a bingsu kick so finally tried The Cups. We ordered the large matcha bingsu which was around $20-25. Good size portion for two people to have, and it was mostly good. We really liked the almond chips and the mochi, and we felt that they didn't skimp on the matcha powder which is nice.

Where it missed the mark a bit for us is the green tea ice cream was actually freezer burnt and made it a bit difficult to eat. There was also a bit of clumping with the snow near the bottom.

This place seems to be really popular on weekends so it might be hard to get a seat.”

Buns were soft, beef seasoned perfectly, sliced cheese, caramelized onions and their house sauce. I’m hungry typing this. Their chicken burgers are good as well, I would prefer beef more. My brother loved the chicken more, so I believe it’s pretty good as welll. The hotdogs are okay, I only tried those because that’s the only 3rd main item on the menu out of 3. Lol. Regardless, the same line, best halal burgers in the area.
Their mango cream is also good, has that really good hint of cardamom.”

We didn't have reaervations and the options were a 1 hour wait to sit inside or be seated right away on the patio. We chose the patio. We were served our drinks and appetizers within 1/2 hour but our main course came about an hour after but it was worth the wait. We will definitely return🍾🎉”

I chose the beef bone broth with a spicy level of 1 and it was good. Next time I'll definitely try the tomato soup.
The staff was friendly but didn't speak much English.

Tiny was absolutely phenomenal! She went above and beyond even though she didn’t have to. She came over to check on us several times, genuinely asking if we needed anything and making sure we were taken care of throughout our meal. She even helped us with a refill and made the whole experience feel so welcoming and personal.

It’s rare to come across someone who puts this much care and attention into their customers. Tiny was kind, attentive, friendly, and incredibly professional. You can tell she genuinely cares about making sure guests have a great experience.
