“In a restaurant world dressed up with disingenuous marketing JOEY Yorkdale offers you a magnificent spot outside downtown Toronto that delivers what it promises on their home page, “Our guests, new or old, are not treated just as guests, but as if they are a good friend we are catching up with.” And this was the experience for me and my two close chums who selected this spot primarily because it was the midpoint between our diverse locations. From first arriving, the hostess took the time to offer a complimentary champagne glass and inquire if our visit that day was for a special occasion. It was a reunion and she graciously followed up with pleasant comments establishing a charming mood. When the waitress came to greet us, she also took the time to find out more about the nature of our reunion and only then flawlessly delved into the menu. I understand this is common practice at luxury restaurants; however, I would contend that, although there are dining establishments that treat patrons similarly, it is not simply about what you do but, rather, how well you do it. And this is the reason I am taking the time to write this review: JOEY does it very well. Having frequented several luxury restaurants in downtown Toronto I can anecdotally share with you that there have been far too many occasions when the host and/or server left a poor impression. Whether it is conceited complacency in their brand or even our own bigotry of unrealistic expectations, there seldom is a meeting point of both food, service, and overall impression. The treatment at JOEY was so genuine that it left an indelible impression. Each interaction with the server and hostess throughout complemented our dining experience. We were then surprised with dessert on the house presented on an expansive serving plate with the words “Happy Reunion!” written in caramel. Delicious, delicious caramel. Mmmm, but I digress… Over the years I have written to restaurants far more complaints than compliments and, in retrospect, this is unfair. It takes a team and a culture to create this magic and it can be quite challenging to get it right. When it comes together as well as it did on our visit, it is the sort of joy that can accompany you throughout your day. At JOEY they seem to have captured the right formula and I look forward to returning and catching up with “good friends” that understand that going out to eat today is about so much more.“

The food is always amazing no matter the location, the servings are generous, and the staff and servers are friendly without being intrusive. I really liked their high chair for little babies. It was the type that attaches to the table — it was perfect for our 10 month old!“

“honestly, 10/10!! everything we ordered was BOMB. my boyfriend and i went tonight and shared a bunch of dishes: the spicy tuna poke, nome fried chicken with sweet chili sauce, grilled short rib, tuna coin roll, bulgogi tacos, and japa burgers. every single thing was delicious, but the grilled short rib was definitely my favourite!! the sauce was UNREAL, and the meat was so tender and easy to eat right off the bone.

we ordered quite a bit of food, but everything was so tasty, and the portions were great for the price. very reasonably priced considering how much food you get! i also tried the passion fruit mojito, which was super fresh and light. you could barely taste the alcohol, which i personally loved!

our server, raymond, was also fantastic! he was very friendly, provided great recommendations, was quick with service, and consistently checked in on us throughout the meal. we sat upstairs, which had a really cozy atmosphere. the only small downside was the bathroom being right in front of some of the tables haha!

overall, we absolutely loved this place and will definitely be back. we’ll be recommending it to everyone. amazing food, great portions, reasonable prices, and excellent service. also, make a reservation as it got busy once we were leaving. can’t wait to come back!!“

“The bed was very comfortable and the room was cozy. However, I was disappointed when I called the front desk for water and the receptionist immediately told me I would have to pay for it, even though I never said I wasn’t willing to pay. It felt like an unnecessary assumption.

The bathroom was also very small, and the shower pressure was almost nonexistent—I was basically showering in a trickle. Overall, a comfortable room, but the service and bathroom could definitely be improved.“

In today’s world, we don’t just look for quantity, but for quality, a personal touch, and excellent service, and Babushka delivered on all fronts. Our waiter, Dima, was incredibly friendly, polite, and professional. The owner, Pasha, was respectful, attentive, and added a touch of humor that made the experience even more enjoyable. He personally greeted everyone and made us feel special. The dancers performing on stage added so much energy and excitement to the evening. They truly elevated the atmosphere, making it feel like a real celebration. The washrooms were spotless and stocked with hand towels, which I really appreciated. “I recently visited Clockwork for a beautiful tea for a close friend's big birthday celebration. There was a great selection of teas and delicious treats, including gluten-free and nut-free options for those with dietary restrictions. The atmosphere was perfect, and everyone had a wonderful time. Before the tea, I emailed Elise to make sure everything was perfect. She was very lovely and accommodating. The staff members Gemma and Leah were nice but also incredibly attentive, making our celebration even more special. The whole experience was great. I would highly recommend it!“

I went to Reservoir Lounge for my birthday dinner and live entertainment, and it turned out to be a great choice for a Sunday night.

The fish cakes were excellent. As my friend described them, you could “taste the sea,” and she meant that in the best possible way. They were fresh, flavourful, and one of the highlights of the meal. We also ordered the pizza with everything on it, the last pizza listed on the menu, and it was so fresh and delicious that we ended up ordering a second one. The lychee martinis were okay, but they weren’t a highlight for me.

The star of the evening was Xavier Solis. He was an amazingly charismatic singer and performed a fantastic selection of old-school soul and pop hits. He even serenaded me with “Happy Birthday,” which made the night especially memorable.

The atmosphere has the feel of an old speakeasy, with a low ceiling, intimate red lighting, a small stage, and a lot of character. There was also plenty of room to dance, which is exactly what some people in the audience did once the music got going.

Overall, we had a great experience. Excellent food, strong live entertainment, and an atmosphere that feels different from the usual Toronto restaurant. I highly recommend Reservoir Lounge for a Sunday night out, especially if you want dinner, live music, and the option to get up and dance.“

“Mike was our server, and he was absolutely fabulous! He was the perfect blend of friendly and personable while not hovering - sometimes a tough needle to thread. The food was excellent and prompt. Mike checked with us before having the steaks finished and sent out, so we didn’t feel rushed through our meal. He also brought out a complimentary dessert with “congratulations” written on chocolate as a surprise - he was really excited for us because my wife is pregnant. He really made the entire experience warm and welcoming!“

“Stopped by for a late breakfast before heading to the airport and the brunch menu actually delivered, the short rib benedict was cooked perfectly and not swimming in grease like most places. Showed up around 10:30 on a Sunday and the place was already half full but our server never made us feel rushed even though we had bags with us. The whiskey selection behind the bar is genuinely impressive for a daytime visit, rows of bottles I recognized from spots in Scotland that you rarely see poured this early. Easy street parking out front too, which after a week of city hopping felt like a small miracle.“

“Such a unique cocktail experience! Went to Bar Chef with my girlfriend and had an amazing time. We went with the $90 tasting menu, which honestly felt like a great deal considering it included both the Contemporary Cocktails and Modernist experiences.

We tried the Confectionery and the Nitro-Chilled Dirty Vetiver Martini, and both were incredibly well thought out. The attention to detail was what really stood out, every cocktail had carefully considered components, textures, aromas, and flavours that made each drink feel like its own experience.

Overall, highly recommend to anyone who appreciates creative mixology.“

“A very interesting looking restaurant where the name and the decor seem not to match. However, does that really matter? The core gives you the feel of a hunting lodge and a sporting pub. The menu is small, which is great, especially since everything on it was delicious. Their burger was probably one of the best I’ve had in town.“

“My friend and I had a very pleasant lunch, service was great. I was rather disappointed in the “lobster” and shrimp role for $29, I only found a tiny piece of lobster in the entire sandwich. I mentioned this to our server and she said she would discuss it with the kitchen but I didn’t hear anything about it, not even an apology. The roll was supposed to have been toasted in butter but it was ridiculously dry and no evidence of butter toasting. My friend had the quinoa bowl for $24 and it looked very nice.“

“My first time here using Too Good To Go app, the plate was generous and delicious. I really enjoyed the pasta. I went up the wrong entrance, so I called and they were helpful guiding me to other set of stairs (closer towards highland farms). Noticed a bbq drum stored at the wrong entrance, i can't wait for summertime bbq!!! I had to wait a bit (10-15 min) for the food but it came out hot and delicious!“

“This is a MUST GO TO Restaurant. I went for breakfast on March 20/23. My experience started with the best service from General Manager Gary Anthony. He was friendly, informative, and fast. The breakfast menu has everything. I love Eggs Bennie. While my style was not on the menu, Gary made it happen anyway. THE BEST EGGS BENNIE EVER! Gary recommended the Banana/Orange/Strawberry juice (it says fresh on the menu). I asked if it was "that grocery store brand" that shall not be named here. He said NO, we made it fresh from real fruit in the blender. It was like a smoothie from heaven. I will return often. While I live about 30 - 40 k from this restaurant (I had an appointment near it that morning) - I will be returning again and often. Next time I'm bringing my wife - She'll love it. Thank you Gary.“
