“In a restaurant world dressed up with disingenuous marketing JOEY Yorkdale offers you a magnificent spot outside downtown Toronto that delivers what it promises on their home page, “Our guests, new or old, are not treated just as guests, but as if they are a good friend we are catching up with.” And this was the experience for me and my two close chums who selected this spot primarily because it was the midpoint between our diverse locations. From first arriving, the hostess took the time to offer a complimentary champagne glass and inquire if our visit that day was for a special occasion. It was a reunion and she graciously followed up with pleasant comments establishing a charming mood. When the waitress came to greet us, she also took the time to find out more about the nature of our reunion and only then flawlessly delved into the menu. I understand this is common practice at luxury restaurants; however, I would contend that, although there are dining establishments that treat patrons similarly, it is not simply about what you do but, rather, how well you do it. And this is the reason I am taking the time to write this review: JOEY does it very well. Having frequented several luxury restaurants in downtown Toronto I can anecdotally share with you that there have been far too many occasions when the host and/or server left a poor impression. Whether it is conceited complacency in their brand or even our own bigotry of unrealistic expectations, there seldom is a meeting point of both food, service, and overall impression. The treatment at JOEY was so genuine that it left an indelible impression. Each interaction with the server and hostess throughout complemented our dining experience. We were then surprised with dessert on the house presented on an expansive serving plate with the words “Happy Reunion!” written in caramel. Delicious, delicious caramel. Mmmm, but I digress… Over the years I have written to restaurants far more complaints than compliments and, in retrospect, this is unfair. It takes a team and a culture to create this magic and it can be quite challenging to get it right. When it comes together as well as it did on our visit, it is the sort of joy that can accompany you throughout your day. At JOEY they seem to have captured the right formula and I look forward to returning and catching up with “good friends” that understand that going out to eat today is about so much more.“

“Joey is our go-to place for special occasions in our family. The food is always amazing no matter the location, the servings are generous, and the staff and servers are friendly without being intrusive. I really liked their high chair for little babies. It was the type that attaches to the table — it was perfect for our 10 month old!“

“This is a beautifully designed hotel, a local/international hotspot, and is run by the most thoughtful, competent staff. It really offers something special and unique, and if you want to be in the entertainment district, the location is ideal. Lots of restaurants, shopping, and well, entertainment.

While I love this hotel, there are a few issues to be aware of.
-For me, the most crucial is that while this hotel is very fun and makes me feel young and celebratory, I don’t sleep well here, especially if it’s the weekend. The rooms aren’t sound proof and are only moderately light proof. Ask for ear plugs when you check in. I’ve stayed in high rooms, low rooms, cozy and large—and haven’t slept well in any of them.
-another hassle is parking if you’re driving here. This area of Toronto is a nightmare for driving and parking. I reserved a spot with spot hero app, but gps couldn’t get me there with the various driving restrictions. It took me a very frustrating hour to park, so if you’re taking a taxi, great, if you’re driving, expect a bit of a challenge.
-my final gripe is the booking experience. I go to Ace’s website, and it offers me various promotions and prompts me to log in, but inevitably the promotions aren’t actually available and choosing a room/rate isn’t clear or easy. Since Ace isn’t part of a big chain and booking as an ace member doesn’t benefit me, I’ve booked through the hotelTonight app. Its rate was over $100 less than the best rate offered by Ace. The only limitation is that you’ll likely be put in a tiny, ‘cozy’ room and can’t pay more for a larger room. I haven’t stayed in a suite here, but the large room isn’t so spacious, just bigger than cozy and there’s no bath until you go to suite, so hotelTonight makes sense for this hotel.“

“I had an absolutely amazing experience at Babushka! From the moment we arrived, I was impressed by how clean and beautifully designed the restaurant was. The outdoor seating area surrounded by flowers created a wonderful atmosphere. The best part was the food — every dish was presented beautifully and served individually to each guest. In today’s world, we don’t just look for quantity, but for quality, a personal touch, and excellent service, and Babushka delivered on all fronts. Our waiter, Dima, was incredibly friendly, polite, and professional. The owner, Pasha, was respectful, attentive, and added a touch of humor that made the experience even more enjoyable. He personally greeted everyone and made us feel special. The dancers performing on stage added so much energy and excitement to the evening. They truly elevated the atmosphere, making it feel like a real celebration. The washrooms were spotless and stocked with hand towels, which I really appreciated. The music was just right — lively but not too loud, with a great mix of different cultures and breaks so guests could talk or dance. If you’re looking for outstanding service, top-quality food, and a festive, unforgettable evening, this is the place. Highly recommend!“

“I recently visited Clockwork for a beautiful tea for a close friend's big birthday celebration. There was a great selection of teas and delicious treats, including gluten-free and nut-free options for those with dietary restrictions. The atmosphere was perfect, and everyone had a wonderful time. Before the tea, I emailed Elise to make sure everything was perfect. She was very lovely and accommodating. The staff members Gemma and Leah were nice but also incredibly attentive, making our celebration even more special. The whole experience was great. I would highly recommend it!“

“Had a great time at Barchef - went with my friend after a concert. It was our first time and perhaps we were a bit confused & asking a bit too many questions, the first server/bartender seemed annoyed by us. He was dismissive and just left our table to get us "water" instead of helping us get a better understanding of certain things. No biggie. We then had a female server - omg - she made our night. She explained the different types of drinks & the tasting menu. She made recommendations. What an absolute breath of fresh air. Our mood changed immediately and we didnt feel like complete idiots. My drinks (Especially the Pennicilin) were gorgeous - the sliders & lobster roll 10/10. The fries meh - dont get it. Would I go again? Yes!“

“My friend and I had a very pleasant lunch, service was great. I was rather disappointed in the “lobster” and shrimp role for $29, I only found a tiny piece of lobster in the entire sandwich. I mentioned this to our server and she said she would discuss it with the kitchen but I didn’t hear anything about it, not even an apology. The roll was supposed to have been toasted in butter but it was ridiculously dry and no evidence of butter toasting. My friend had the quinoa bowl for $24 and it looked very nice.“

“A very interesting looking restaurant where the name and the decor seem not to match. However, does that really matter? The core gives you the feel of a hunting lodge and a sporting pub. The menu is small, which is great, especially since everything on it was delicious. Their burger was probably one of the best I’ve had in town.“
