“In a restaurant world dressed up with disingenuous marketing JOEY Yorkdale offers you a magnificent spot outside downtown Toronto that delivers what it promises on their home page, “Our guests, new or old, are not treated just as guests, but as if they are a good friend we are catching up with.” And this was the experience for me and my two close chums who selected this spot primarily because it was the midpoint between our diverse locations. From first arriving, the hostess took the time to offer a complimentary champagne glass and inquire if our visit that day was for a special occasion. It was a reunion and she graciously followed up with pleasant comments establishing a charming mood. When the waitress came to greet us, she also took the time to find out more about the nature of our reunion and only then flawlessly delved into the menu. I understand this is common practice at luxury restaurants; however, I would contend that, although there are dining establishments that treat patrons similarly, it is not simply about what you do but, rather, how well you do it. And this is the reason I am taking the time to write this review: JOEY does it very well. Having frequented several luxury restaurants in downtown Toronto I can anecdotally share with you that there have been far too many occasions when the host and/or server left a poor impression. Whether it is conceited complacency in their brand or even our own bigotry of unrealistic expectations, there seldom is a meeting point of both food, service, and overall impression. The treatment at JOEY was so genuine that it left an indelible impression. Each interaction with the server and hostess throughout complemented our dining experience. We were then surprised with dessert on the house presented on an expansive serving plate with the words “Happy Reunion!” written in caramel. Delicious, delicious caramel. Mmmm, but I digress… Over the years I have written to restaurants far more complaints than compliments and, in retrospect, this is unfair. It takes a team and a culture to create this magic and it can be quite challenging to get it right. When it comes together as well as it did on our visit, it is the sort of joy that can accompany you throughout your day. At JOEY they seem to have captured the right formula and I look forward to returning and catching up with “good friends” that understand that going out to eat today is about so much more.“

“I dropped by for my birthday on Sunday. I must say that I truly enjoyed my meal. The ribs were soft and full of flavor and the drinks were nice. Our food came on time, was delicious and hot. and all 8 of us enjoyed every chopstick full of such tasty food. “You need to come here for Korean Fried Chicken. The chicken is saucy, flavourful, juicy, and above all, crispy. I find a lot of spots fail to hit the crispy mark after being drenched in sauce but here, they really hit the mark!

We also ordered the Rose Rice Cakes and Fish Cake Soup. That rice cake is SPICY but some of the best I’ve ever had. It’s sweet, savoury, and cheesy. The fish cake soup is a classic comforting dish.“

“I got take out last night, rushing to eat before work (salad and chicken shawarma sandwich). It tasted odd... shortly after,, I called the location to tell them, something was off with the ingredients. I wasn't sure of it was the onions, turnips etc. something was left out too long perhaps... and today I am sick as a dog. I've eaten here before. I think they need better quality control on the food... especially being safely stored.. perhaps temperatures..etc“

“Branzino was good. Asked for it to be deboned but still many bones remained. My husband had a falafel salad with chicken which was so dry and over cooked. Server was pleasant but it's the second time I have been there and food is not great.“

“There are many ramen places in this part of North York and this is definitely one of the tastier ones. Noodles are cooked perfectly and the broth is always piping hot, delicious and flavourful. You can always count on getting a delicious bowl of noodles at this place. The service is always precise and efficient.“

We ordered the Beef Rendang, Ayam Geprek (Smashed Fried Chicken), and Nasi Goreng. Everything was really tasty. The beef was incredibly tender and packed with flavour, the chicken was crispy and a really nice kick to it, and the fried rice was awesome - very unique flavours.

The food is always amazing no matter the location, the servings are generous, and the staff and servers are friendly without being intrusive. I really liked their high chair for little babies. It was the type that attaches to the table — it was perfect for our 10 month old!“

The meat was tender and had a nice grilled flavour. The sauce was sweet with a little bit of spice. You will need to order a side of rice for their shared dishes.“

“Cute Korean restaurant about 3-5 min walk from Finch Subway station. Tip: exit through the passenger pickup area of Finch station if you're walking, that's the closest exit to the restaurant. I came here specifically to try their Ganjang Gejang (raw blue crab marinated in soy sauce), it seems that they might be the only restaurant that serves this dish in Toronto, that I could find and know of. There is a very slight fishy smell when I sniffed it, which is expected since it's raw crab, but when I was eating it, I didn't find it fishy at all, it was really delicious. The crab roe was soft and rich, the meat was smooth and fresh, everything went really well with the rice. I can see why this dish is called a rice thief now. I was really tempted to order another bowl of rice but on account of my diet I stopped myself. I would definitely try this dish again. I also ordered the kimchi stew and my friend got a spicy beef soup. Although it was not as outstanding as the Ganjang Gejang, Both were delicious and portions were good. The side dishes were good as well. Not sure if there's free refills or not since we didn't ask for any. The service was good, it's a smaller shop, seems like it's family owned. People were doing multi jobs so if you wanted more tea or something you have to ask them, they do really try to check up you though and would walk around once in awhile to refill your tea and see how you're doing. Overall a good dining experience, I would come back to try their raw crab. However if I was just going out for Korean food then I may not specifically go out of my way to come here since although the other dishes were good, it's not super outstanding. Aside from indoor dining they also have outdoor dining, there's a big white tent outside, they provides pretty good shelter, there's also hanging lights out there, really cute set up. We dined inside though since it was windy.“

After reading some of the other comments in the question section, we called to confirm the extent to which they are wheelchair accessible. Utterly disappointed to find out that although they have a ramp, the only accessible dining areas are if you're with one of the large groups. Meaning that as an individual with accessibility needs, I was excluded from dining at this restaurant. My accessibility needs are temporary, however you can guarantee I won't be dining at this restaurant even when I'm able to walk again, until they rectify this situation. Inexcusable to exclude people with mobility needs in this day and age.“

“Absolutely my new fav for Thai food takeout. Absolutely delicious and flavourful. The one thing we keep saying when we took it home and opened is how GOOD it smells. All the ingredients veggies they put in really gives you deep flavour profiles, you can tell they put a lot efforts to make the dish.

I would say it wins MANY Toronto popular Thai places like PAI. Price is much better and food is much more flavour. The crispy pork was AMAZING.

It’s not really a dine-in location but you certainly can eat at their cute booth. The staff/chefs are super friendly and nice, gives you a street food style but certainly has space to sit in the winter if you wanna grab a quick bite.

I would definitely come back and try different stuffs! So good.

We opted this time not to go with the cream cheese crust which was a better option as it limited the sweetness of the overall dish and was a better balance of flavor.
