“In a restaurant world dressed up with disingenuous marketing JOEY Yorkdale offers you a magnificent spot outside downtown Toronto that delivers what it promises on their home page, “Our guests, new or old, are not treated just as guests, but as if they are a good friend we are catching up with.” And this was the experience for me and my two close chums who selected this spot primarily because it was the midpoint between our diverse locations. From first arriving, the hostess took the time to offer a complimentary champagne glass and inquire if our visit that day was for a special occasion. It was a reunion and she graciously followed up with pleasant comments establishing a charming mood. When the waitress came to greet us, she also took the time to find out more about the nature of our reunion and only then flawlessly delved into the menu. I understand this is common practice at luxury restaurants; however, I would contend that, although there are dining establishments that treat patrons similarly, it is not simply about what you do but, rather, how well you do it. And this is the reason I am taking the time to write this review: JOEY does it very well. Having frequented several luxury restaurants in downtown Toronto I can anecdotally share with you that there have been far too many occasions when the host and/or server left a poor impression. Whether it is conceited complacency in their brand or even our own bigotry of unrealistic expectations, there seldom is a meeting point of both food, service, and overall impression. The treatment at JOEY was so genuine that it left an indelible impression. Each interaction with the server and hostess throughout complemented our dining experience. We were then surprised with dessert on the house presented on an expansive serving plate with the words “Happy Reunion!” written in caramel. Delicious, delicious caramel. Mmmm, but I digress… Over the years I have written to restaurants far more complaints than compliments and, in retrospect, this is unfair. It takes a team and a culture to create this magic and it can be quite challenging to get it right. When it comes together as well as it did on our visit, it is the sort of joy that can accompany you throughout your day. At JOEY they seem to have captured the right formula and I look forward to returning and catching up with “good friends” that understand that going out to eat today is about so much more.“

“On September 21, 2025 my husband and i hosted a party for our 85-year-old friend. We were greeted with Happy Birthday Greetings. Our waters were never empty. Our food came on time, was delicious and hot. and all 8 of us enjoyed every chopstick full of such tasty food. Thank you to the staff that took care of every want, even a dish of ice cream dolled up for the birthday girl. Very nice treat. Thank you. Every time the service has been exceptional and caring a bit more today made it memorable for everyone Thank you.“

It tasted odd... shortly after,, I called the location to tell them, something was off with the ingredients. “We haven't.been to a Pickle barrel in ages, but stumbled across one at Yorkdale Shopping Centre recently for it Weekend Brunch. The price was reasonable and the food was prepared fresh and as expected. Our server Never was attentive and provided excellent service making our visit enjoyable.“

“Great Thai restaurant with good food, large portions, and personable staff. They took care to personalize our order to us, asking questions while preparing the food in front of us. Note that there is limited bar style seating only, so takeout is necessary for families or during a busy time.“

We came here with much anticipation for the $10 lunch special so we got that plus some chicken satay. Everything was so yummy! Rice was flavourful and fluffy and my fave was the tender chicken satay with the peanut sauce.“

“Generous portions and great gamjatang. Had a really good perilla taste. My favourite was their new dish which was the grilled mapo ppyeo gui. Serves 2-3 people. The meat was tender and had a nice grilled flavour. The sauce was sweet with a little bit of spice. You will need to order a side of rice for their shared dishes.“

“This is a response to Nick Nick’s review. I was in the restaurant when the owner was on the phone with this person. I do not know the owner except to have been there to have witnessed the whole conversation. It was my first time there and came to write my own review. This was meant to be.

While I was waiting for my order, the owner was on the phone asking someone how she can deliver his order because he said he was too far. He agreed and gave the address. She asked for the buzzer code to deliver the food to his door. He refused the give buzzer code. She then asked him what time he had come in to order the previous day so she could check her cameras (he supposedly found plastic and called the next day). He hung up on her.

Now I’m not a rocket scientist but by reading Nick Nick’s other reviews this person has found a lot of plastic in his food from SEVERAL different restaurants. I recommend he cook at home.

“Food is 10/10!! I went here for my birthday and had been eyeing the place before. The waitress was really accommodating and kind. I ordered the Salmon Combo. It comes with sashimi, nigiri and spicy salmon roll. I also ordered a spicy crab hand roll. The spice is real. I had to take a few moments before continuing. The combo comes with salad and miso soup which really helped with the spicy mayo. The sashimi was such a beautiful colour, you probably can’t tell because the camera washes it out. The sashimi is so buttery and just melts in your mouth. Presentation is 10/10. It was so worth it to come. Would 100% come back again.“

The ramen scene in Toronto is getting pretty saturated. Despite the growing competition, most shops continue to keep their prices high compared to Japan.

Kinton is a refreshing exception.
Without compromising on quality or taste, they have actually managed to lower their prices by adopting smart business practices. Whether you're dining in or ordering out, they deliver solid value and consistency.

Kinton is one of the OGs to the ramen scene in Toronto. I fully recommend it!“

“I almost don’t want to tell the public about how insanely good the sushi is here but out of respect to the owners, I must. Fresh sushi and Japanese owed which is hard to find in Toronto (mostly Korean owned). They import their Chu Toro Tuna from Japan and it is exquisite. This is a gem in Toronto, a must try.“

I've been here many times. The atmosphere and service is good. The food used to be delicious, but over time, the food seems to be getting worse and worse. The last 2 visits, I had pork bento and mackerel miso bento, and it just wasn't delicious. My wife's tofu bento used to be good - thinly sliced and fried - but the most recent visit, it looked sloppy like they cut corners to cook it.“

Overall id recommend the Bulgogi pizza more than the others. The beef is a fantastic pizza topping and the green tea crust is quite unique.“

“A nice cafe in Scarborough area near Sheppard x Victoria Park that is perfect to bring a book to. The environment are cosy with comfortable seatings. I ordered a cortado today with double shot espresso. The coffee bean they used are dark roasted with punchy bitterness and the milk foam is very hot.

They have croissants and muffins available, which are the usual eatery items. They also featured Indian snacks as specialty.“

We didn't have reaervations and the options were a 1 hour wait to sit inside or be seated right away on the patio. We chose the patio. “My first choice for fresh, delicious Thai food“

“Cute Korean restaurant about 3-5 min walk from Finch Subway station. Tip: exit through the passenger pickup area of Finch station if you're walking, that's the closest exit to the restaurant. I came here specifically to try their Ganjang Gejang (raw blue crab marinated in soy sauce), it seems that they might be the only restaurant that serves this dish in Toronto, that I could find and know of. There is a very slight fishy smell when I sniffed it, which is expected since it's raw crab, but when I was eating it, I didn't find it fishy at all, it was really delicious. The crab roe was soft and rich, the meat was smooth and fresh, everything went really well with the rice. I can see why this dish is called a rice thief now. I was really tempted to order another bowl of rice but on account of my diet I stopped myself. I would definitely try this dish again. I also ordered the kimchi stew and my friend got a spicy beef soup. Although it was not as outstanding as the Ganjang Gejang, Both were delicious and portions were good. The side dishes were good as well. Not sure if there's free refills or not since we didn't ask for any. The service was good, it's a smaller shop, seems like it's family owned. People were doing multi jobs so if you wanted more tea or something you have to ask them, they do really try to check up you though and would walk around once in awhile to refill your tea and see how you're doing. Overall a good dining experience, I would come back to try their raw crab. However if I was just going out for Korean food then I may not specifically go out of my way to come here since although the other dishes were good, it's not super outstanding. Aside from indoor dining they also have outdoor dining, there's a big white tent outside, they provides pretty good shelter, there's also hanging lights out there, really cute set up. We dined inside though since it was windy.“
