“The dishes were super flavourful and really hit the spot, with a great variety of comforting noodle options to choose from.
Portions were generous, and everything came out fresh despite how busy the place was. Service was impressively fast and efficient, even with a full restaurant, which made the experience even better.“

“I have no words to describe how happy I am with the customer service at this “The Fry” branch!!
Vibes, music, food, and the server were so friendly all the time.

“This place is a real gem. It feels like it’s run by a husband-and-wife team, and you can tell there’s a lot of care put into everything. The overall experience is always satisfying, and the jokbal is genuinely really good—tender, flavorful, and consistently well-prepared.
The only minor downside is that parking can be a bit inconvenient, depending on the time you go. But honestly, it’s still worth it, and I find myself coming back often.
If you’re craving solid jokbal with a warm, local vibe, this spot is an easy recommendation.“

“As someone who loves the English language and all the words you can use to express feelings, this restaurant reduced me to being someone who can only say “oh my god.” First bite of the tangsuyeok - oh my god. First sip of the hyesik - oh my god. First bite of the jalapeño tuna / creamy crab gimbap.. oh my god! The kimchi, oh my god.
The service was also wonderful, our server was incredibly kind.
I already know I need to come back multiple times to systematically go through the menu. Oh my god!“

“Update:
Today I brought friends here expecting a great experience, as this used to be one of my favorite Korean restaurants. Unfortunately, the service was extremely disappointing.
We asked the server for extra side dishes, and he simply brought them over without mentioning that there would be an additional charge. Later, we noticed a $7 charge per side on the receipt, totaling $21. At no point were we informed about the cost or given an option for portion size.
When we raised the issue, the response made things worse. We were told the receipt couldn’t be changed, the manager wasn’t available, and the staff weren’t trained to use the system. That level of unpreparedness is unacceptable.
It’s really disappointing to see a place I used to recommend go downhill like this. Unfortunately, this was my last visit.
————————————
My go-to spot for Chicken Katsu and Short Rib!
The Chicken Katsu is always perfectly crispy, and the sauce is unbelievably good—rich, tangy, and addictive. Paired with the fresh cabbage salad on the side, it hits all the right notes. The short rib is tender and flavorful, and the rice portion is just right—not too much, not too little.“

“Hidden gems that I truly don’t want to tell. Great amount of food! Taste is fantastic! Love gamjatang (a bit spicy but very flavourful!) No, everything was tasty! Old style place which I love it! Please don’t change anything the way it looks and tastes. Small restaurant so of course take a bit time but I can be patient. Tight space so better go when not busy time. Highly recommend :)“

“The first time I tried this authentic Korean restaurant in GTA, and it was great. The mapo style beef was especially good, really spicy but absolutely delicious. The spicy fried chicken is a must order dish. I also loved their kimchi so much. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout my visit.“

“We got the basil cream pasta, rose tteokbokki, and the fried chicken tteokbokki. Portions were a little tiny, but food tasted great, lots of flavor and very creamy :), we spent $40. Smt in total, cuz 10% cash discount. The restaurant has very few tables and very little space, tho the staff helped us combine the tables :)“

“I cant peak enough about the food at this place. it's by far the best value for your money. Not only is the food delicious but the portions are very reasonable for the $ they ask. I highly recommend the chicken sandwich.. you'll never go anywhere else for chicken again. Their Kim Bap is really good option. Very fresh and very healthy, my wife lives off them!!“

“Cute Korean restaurant about 3-5 min walk from Finch Subway station. Tip: exit through the passenger pickup area of Finch station if you're walking, that's the closest exit to the restaurant. I came here specifically to try their Ganjang Gejang (raw blue crab marinated in soy sauce), it seems that they might be the only restaurant that serves this dish in Toronto, that I could find and know of. There is a very slight fishy smell when I sniffed it, which is expected since it's raw crab, but when I was eating it, I didn't find it fishy at all, it was really delicious. The crab roe was soft and rich, the meat was smooth and fresh, everything went really well with the rice. I can see why this dish is called a rice thief now. I was really tempted to order another bowl of rice but on account of my diet I stopped myself. I would definitely try this dish again. I also ordered the kimchi stew and my friend got a spicy beef soup. Although it was not as outstanding as the Ganjang Gejang, Both were delicious and portions were good. The side dishes were good as well. Not sure if there's free refills or not since we didn't ask for any. The service was good, it's a smaller shop, seems like it's family owned. People were doing multi jobs so if you wanted more tea or something you have to ask them, they do really try to check up you though and would walk around once in awhile to refill your tea and see how you're doing. Overall a good dining experience, I would come back to try their raw crab. However if I was just going out for Korean food then I may not specifically go out of my way to come here since although the other dishes were good, it's not super outstanding. Aside from indoor dining they also have outdoor dining, there's a big white tent outside, they provides pretty good shelter, there's also hanging lights out there, really cute set up. We dined inside though since it was windy.“

“First time here and found a right place for authentic Korean bbq with my favourite kimchi stew so yummy ! Will surely come back again even needed to queue... 😋😋😋“
“The quality was unbelievable considering it was a restaurant inside a supermarket. I ordered takeout because I was afraid there would be leftovers, but the packaging wasn't made of Styrofoam, so I just took it home and ate it. There are still a lot of Styrofoam containers, but the packaging was really good. The Jjamppong was just as delicious as it was at a specialty Chinese restaurant. Bibimbap is ordinary. The batter for sweet and sour pork is too hard. It looks perfect in the picture, but when you bite into it, it's so hard that the roof of your mouth cracks, and even when you open it after eating some seaweed from takeout, it's still hard. The sweet and sour pork sauce is very disappointing. I think it would be even better if you paid a little more attention to it. So, even though I used glutinous rice, the batter was not chewy and was rough. It seems like I mixed in too much glutinous rice rather than starch. Anyway, the meat was tender. If the sauce is good, it would be really great.“

“I went here with my bf the food was pretty good and the service was amazing. Especially the girl with the long black hair and she wore a grey right dress. She was so lovely and she’s so pretty as well. Very attentive and sweet. I’m assuming she’s the manager there?“

“I received stone rice cake (3 types) from a friend today. I found out why I asked what time the pickup would be when I placed my order. The rice cake was warm and delicious, as if it had been made and delivered on time. They beautifully engraved the words 'First Birthday' on the rice cake cake for free, and there were plenty of songpyeon and sorghum red bean rice cakes. I was moved. thank you The price was also better than other places. I highly recommend it?“

“The place is clean and very nice and inviting. And while it may not be the best Thai out there but it is tasty and there are lots of healthy options which I found to be a plus. I also liked that there was a large selection and that you can tailor the components of your entree easily. This is great because it means more choices. I found the price to be a bit higher than I would like (given the size of the entree) but it's not extremely inflated. I think it would be great if they had some good BOGO sales or special offers so that people in the area can try it out without much risk and maybe make it one of their regular stops.“

“I always get their combos which are a fantastic deal. Combo 4 is enough to feed 4 people. It is also good for vegetarians because there's no meat but you can pay to upgrade the tteokbokki, roll, and rice ball to include other toppings. My preferred rice ball is kimchi-tuna and for the roll, the beef one.
The fried rice cakes are deep fried and crispy with fish cakes covered in a spicy sauce similar to tteokbokki and they have a fantastic texture and taste.
For confusion on the rice ball, it arrives as a bowl of rice as the base, various toppings on the top and you're meant to mix it with your hands and form them into little balls.
They are usually quite busy so it's recommended to order ahead of time. They now have an online platform to order from which is convenient. Sometimes when they serve your food later than expected, they gift a free pop.
There are 4 chairs and two narrow tables along the windows.“

“This is a restaurant I make a point to visit every time I’m in North York. Today, we ordered the spicy fried pollock, sweet and sour pork, and braised monkfish—and as expected, it didn’t disappoint.
We didn’t get it this time, but we usually also order the clam kalguksu when we’re here. That said, today’s dishes were more than enough on their own. We love Chowon so much ❤️“

“Such a hidden gem in North York. I wasn’t super intrigued by the sign outside at first, but the food completely blew me away.
We ordered from their seasonal February menu—the spicy pollock stew and the oyster pancake—and both were super hearty and made with really fresh ingredients.
Service was quick, and the owner was very friendly. No surprise this place has been around for over 25 years with so many regulars. Definitely coming back soon to try more dishes.“

“first time i came, one of the guys were rude. Rolled eyes when I didn't tip for takeout. The other cashier was nice though. I actually got a really good portion size for my Kamzatang, and it had lots of meat inside. Also flavorful! I have to agree with that the food here is overpriced for some cafeteria style university food served in plastic plates.“

“Overall, this is a decent Korean-style Chinese restaurant. The food is generally good, and I would recommend the glutinous rice sweet and sour pork (찹쌀 탕수육) over the regular version. The texture and flavor are noticeably better.
That said, the restaurant could use some updating. The menu books are quite worn out in several places, which gives the restaurant a somewhat dated appearance.
As for the service, I would suggest keeping your expectations modest. Like many Korean-run restaurants, the focus seems to be on the food rather than customer service. I still leave a tip because it is a social norm, but if I were judging strictly based on the level of service provided, I believe 10% would be appropriate.
Overall, it's a good place for the food, especially if you're craving Korean-style Chinese cuisine.“

“They are open again after renovations. The new interior looks great. It's a family owned restaurant and the flavors aren't toned down. The Kimchi soup is great, it uses sour kimchi and is spicy. The Tuna gimbap is fantastic and the Jjamppong is definitely worth trying too. Staff are super nice, especially once they recognize you as a regular.“

A gooey delicious sweet and salty cheese ball battered in a crunchy golden shell of goodness! “A refined take on Korean street food in North York.
Kim’s A La Carte, affiliated with Red Bean Waffle House, offers a curated glimpse into Korean street cuisine — balancing both sweet and savory elements. From red bean custard waffles to kimchi pancakes and rice cake skewers, the menu reflects a thoughtful attempt to bring familiar Seoul street flavors into a more polished, accessible format.
The execution is commendable, though not entirely transportive. The waffles carry a pleasant sweetness with a crisp exterior, while the kimchi pancake delivers a satisfying depth of flavor. Portions, however, lean modest, and those seeking the bold, bustling authenticity of Korea’s street stalls may find the experience slightly restrained.
That said, as a local interpretation, it succeeds in capturing the essence — clean, approachable, and enjoyable.
More importantly, places like this deserve our support. Independent eateries bringing niche cuisines are increasingly under pressure from heavy competition, and without community backing, they risk disappearing. Supporting them helps preserve diversity in our food scene.“
