“Compared to some of the other fine dining experiences I’ve tried, Alo is an amazing experience, but I do believe that there are a lot better alternatives based on the food, experience, and price you’re expected to pay. Based on the worn out seats, small glasses of wine, getting sick after eating there, and all the meal upgrades they offer in the beginning, it does kind of feel like they may put profits above all else - but I sincerely hope that this isn’t the case.

4/5 stars for the food - and for a few reasons. Firstly, like one of the newer reviews below me had mentioned, I did feel sick the very next day after dining here. My partner felt fine but it took about two full days for me to fully recover. I’m not sure if there was something about the ingredients they used or if it was something related to their food handling but I hope that this is something they look into.

In terms of the food itself, there were several highlight dishes that made up for some of the ones that weren’t as memorable. We also opted for a caviar upgrade for one of the dishes, but unfortunately, I felt like the dish would have been just as fine without it.

Other than that, our sommelier was amazing and took us on a journey with each and every glass that we had. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about each wine, and the parings definitely elevated each dish we had. However, compared to other wine parings I’ve experienced, the amount of wine we were given was a lot smaller in comparison. But even then, I still wouldn’t miss out on the parings!

During service, I found the waiters to be very attentive and very natural. It’s very easy for establishments like these to feel a little robotic but I didn’t feel that way at all.

In terms of the actual dining establishment itself, the leather sofas felt a little sticky & could use a good reupholstering. Besides that, the rest of the establishment felt very clean and comfortable.

We also found a few mistakes on our takeaway cards as well. For one, I was provided with the wrong wine list and my partner’s name was spelled incorrectly - which had a special happy birthday greeting inside. At this price point, there should be a certain degree of care and attention to each customer & there shouldn’t be any mistakes like these at all.

Overall, my partner and I had an amazing experience at Alo but based on the price point, I do believe that there are other establishments that exceed the experience we had at Alo. Nevertheless, all of these misses could be easily improved on and I hope to be back again with a much better experience!!

Parking: I ended up parking at an underground Green P nearby (2 minute walk).“

“We live in New Jersey but we have been to Jamaica 30 times or more. I love Jamaican food. This food was as good or better than any food I’ve eaten in Jamaica. There were 8 of us. Between us we had oxtail red bean soup, curry goat, jerk chicken, fried okra, fried plantains, jerk fries with aioli sauce, chicken curry, slow baked jerk wings and 4 of the deserts. Everything was seasoned well. The spice levels were perfect. Savory and delicious. The reception and service were welcoming and enthusiastic. The ambiance felt truly Jamaican. Every aspect of our dining experience was wonderful. Go, you won’t be disappointed.“

“The ambience of the spacious back patio is great. People were enjoying beer from early lunch time. Union burger comes with lots of crispy french fries. Burger itself was juicy. Steak tartare is decent but as for me slices of the bread are greasy. Our server was not friendly but okay. It seemed that she rushed to go home? I think I had high expectations because I heard some nice reputations.
I went there with high expectations after hearing about the restaurant's past Michelin star status and reviews from friends. Although the food was delicious, it was hard to say that it was a great experience considering the service and price. I felt the price was high, but I wonder if it's in this price range for a store on Ossington avenue.
The inside of the restaurant is not large, so if you are traveling with a stroller or pet, there are seats outside on the patio facing the street.
Union burger with fries $29
Steak tartare main size $26“

“Chotto Matte is a must try. The food was absolutely amazing. The Amazonian salmon is a culinary masterpiece, the wagyu beef gyoza magnificent, the tempura shrimp were amazing with the sauce provided, while the spicy chicken karaage wasn’t great flavor wise the texture was a bit off putting it was perfectly crunchy on the outside but a bit slimy on the inside, the pineapple pomegranate duck breast was delicious - extremely flavorful, though we were not a fan of the pork and shrimp gyoza they eagerly replaced them with another wagyu beef gyoza. The service is outstanding. The wait staff and busser were extremely attentive, our water glasses didn’t stay empty long the moment they notices they refilled without prompting and finished plates were removed from the table.“

“Hitting the jackpot feels like going to an Izakaya and liking every single dish, with the smaller portions perfect for trying a variety of delicious plates. The Karaage is one of the best in the city, juicy, juicy chicken chunks marinated into an umami-packed sauce, embalmed in a corn starch batter that's wonderfully crispy with a subtle crunch. It's then mixed with a sweet and savoury sriracha sauce and served with a side of mayo. A low and slow braise renders the fat melty and the meat practically falling apart before it enters your mouth. The sticky sauce is a wonderful balance of sweet balsamic soy glaze with a kick of horseradish and a fragrance of shishito peppers.

Corn season is already here, and I'm addicted. I like plain corn on the cob, but this was astonishing. The outside has a thin, crispy texture that pops with its sweet juices and fragrant, clean-tasting fry oil. The Nagoya ramen has no way of tasting bad either, with the intensity of the chilli oil and sesame seeds in the chicken broth, with soft ramen noodles to sop it all up. Service was good as well.“

“Hands down some of the best food I have EVER eaten! I was in Toronto 3 nights and ate here twice, and wish I did all 3 nights. Everything was above expectations. For appetizers the smelts were good but the KFC calamari lettuce wrap were beyond words. The tuna BLT was incredible and pairs great with Canadian Riesling. I thought the scallops with chili spices and pumpkin purée was a genius combination.

The atmosphere is good and Koko at the bar was very friendly and offers great service. It’s clear they pay attention to details. I look forward to going again and giving the oysters a try!

I’m not sure why some reviews complain about the price and portions. This is honestly better than many Michelin star restaurants I’ve been to and plating is on par. If anything I would say the prices are too cheap and should be at least double or triple for the quality.

I will definitely be making this my go to when in Toronto.“

“First-timer at this cute ramen shop. I got the classic shoyu ramen. The broth is interesting. It is indicated that the broth is a combination of chicken, pork and seafood flavor. It has that bonito taste and is a bit smokey on top of the soy sauce flavour, which is very unique to other ramen places in Toronto. I wish it was lighter on the pork/chicken fat on top of the broth since it got a bit heavy towards the end. The egg and chasu are cooked to perfection. Very tender and fatty chasu! I like how simple yet dynamic the bowl is! I also need to try the softserve ice cream next time. Recommend this place!“

Go to Guu for a great night out for your palate, with a plethora of different flavours and textures being offered, all crafted to deliciousness. Ordered on a whim and almost satiated stomach, the salmon oshizushi was the highlight of the night. It fuses the smokiness of the flame with the buttery richness of the salmon, contrasted with the gentle chew of the perfectly marinated rice and flakes of salt to accentuate the salmon umami even more. The yakiudon is the embodiment of robust beefy flavours that permeate throughout each bite, heightened with the umami of mushrooms, scallions, nori and bonito flakes. The udon noodles have a luxurious texture that's satisfyingly chewy and is the ideal canvas to deliver the savoury balance of savoury and subtle sweetness of the teriyaki sauce to please your taste buds. Taste the freshness of the sea with their special platter of salmon belly, chutoro and scallops which are brimming with a pleasant sweetness, buttery smooth texture and an unrivalled freshness, contrasting the stronger flavour profile of the first two dishes with something lighter.“

“2024 October 4★
3 year consecutive Michelin rated since 2023 (23, 24, 25). Can certainly say it's good, though have had some definite contenders just as good.

The OG Sando combo $19.50
Large Cajun Waffle Fries
The sandwich with their signature sauces and spices along with a slaw and pickles inside. Pretty good. The waffle fries were great.

4 Pieces Plain $22.00
Pieces of chicken are huge. Spices and sauce just as good. Juicy and tender. Though the chicken without the spices/sauce wasn't very flavorful.

Overall, prices are reasonable. Definitely worth checking out.“

“It's a cozy spot with intimate seating good for maybe 2-3 people. The drinks were pretty solid with descent quality ingredients. Prices are fairly high. The options for the craft cocktails could be more diverse. The food items were nice. The hand roll was OK it wasn't particularly great. It's more for smaller bites and definitely not for a full meal or hungry people. The high ball was pretty good“
