“It’s a fine time to get in the mood for brunch at noon on Canada Day. Lesser folk may say you have no chance of sitting down anywhere proper within the hour, and smarter folk will have planned ahead days ago.

But there I was, and with one call to this place, the lovely hostess added me to the waitlist for 1 p.m. and said we were good to come then! It felt like a stroke of luck, which I chalked up to the later hour and the very hot weather.

We were seated right away with our table held, and the first thing we ordered, naturally, was mimosas.

I’m not sure if the air conditioning, fans, or exhaust system wasn't working that day, but it wasn’t much cooler inside than outside, which made it a bit uncomfortable. There were a lot of people as well. An icy mimosa helped quench my thirst.

Clearly a very lively and well-frequented joint, we perused the menu and I decided on the Merguez shakshuka. We also got the Farmer’s Breakfast. I highly recommend any of the shakshuka on the menu, as that is clearly their specialty!

Mine arrived piping hot, and the bread was very good. The yolks were perfectly runny, and I liked the nuttiness the labneh had; it was quite satisfying. The Farmer’s Breakfast left a little to be desired, as the scrambled eggs were overdone.

I would definitely return to try more of the menu, as this place offers a lot, not just breakfast.“

“I had a wonderful dining experience here. Every dish we ordered was prepared with such care and looked beautiful on the plate.

The open-faced toast was a highlight, piled high with vibrant salmon, capers, and pickled onions. Everything tasted as fresh as it looked. I also really enjoyed the perfectly crispy calamari served with those bright green peppers. It is the perfect spot for a delicious meal.“

“We had their original and American burgers. Both were good. I found them tasty but very one-note in flavour. My wife and I alternated between the two and that helped because the American had relish that helped brighten the flavour a bit. Honestly they need lettuce/tomato and pickle options... something add more interest. Their curly fries were really good. Everything was fresh.“

The French Toast special was delicious with so many textures (and a great serving size), and the maple chicken sandwich was SO GOOD. My favourite lunch in the world is the house sandwich on a honey garlic bagel, an iced latte, and a black sesame macaron.

All of their desserts are incredible as well. There are many fun macaron flavours to choose from, as well a delicious cookies and cakes. I also love the strawberry latte!“

Our server Quinn was friendly and efficient and was able to offer his opinion on main dishes we selected. The portions were more than generous and both of us were provided with take away containers. My friend has decided to book a family birthday here later this month. And I plan to return to Trattoria Di Parma early in November with friends who will be visiting from Calgary. I ordered the iced dalgona latte and was so shocked when it came large pieces of dalgona - it was a nice touch! I also ordered the matcha strawberry croffle and it was so good. The strawberries were sweet enough to balance the matcha, and the croffle was so soft. The service was also very quick! Definitely a nice space to study or read, or just hang out with friends.“
